Calligaris, 92 years of smart design Having always worked with passion and dedication, ninety-two years are a milestone we are very proud to have reached. We are tenacious in finding advanced and functional technical solutions, uncompromising in the quality of materials and workmanship, creative in designing contemporary and elegant shapes and finishes, ready to fill homes around the world. We take pride in our long history as leaders and creators of affordable furniture, our success so far shows that the path we undertook in 1923 is still the right one. At Calligaris we continue to view the way we live as an ever-evolving process, in which function and emotion come together in perfect harmony and where one can live comfortably, surrounded by personal possessions. We continue this journey by constantly imagining cosy, liveable spaces - spaces able to communicate the personality of those who live there. Our task, what we have always loved to do, is to design products that are intelligent as well as beautiful. We look at the smallest details to give our furniture surprising technical features - which we define as smart details: mechanisms which are both innovative and simple, that turn a coffee table into a large dining table or a sofa into the ultimate spot for relaxation. We experiment with materials and colours to make endless combinations which are forward thinking, leaving you the possibility to free your imagination and create unique spaces. Calligarisâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; ability to â&#x20AC;&#x153;look forwardâ&#x20AC;? has always been one of our most valuable assets. This spirit is now embodied in the CODE project, a collection of complements and accessories created by young Italian designers, with the idea of nourishing the precious and rare bond between creativity and production processes. Each one of these designers has offered a personal and creative interpretation of smartness, translating this concept in objects brimming with colour and energy. All the CODE items, which are obviously part of the Calligaris world, blend perfectly in our style, with a creative and suggestive mix of harmonious or contrasting effects. From a distance, Calligaris sofas look beautiful, but it is when they are viewed up close, that they show off their best qualities. Design for us is the result of a relentless pursuit of details that make a difference. The collaboration with Bernhardt and Vella, for

example, has produced Urban, an elegant, simple and fashionable sectional sofa with a sober, rational and contemporary look. The thin and curved armrest supporting the sofa, is conceived almost like a tailored piece, with a refined seam which emphasizes its design.

- DESIGN Designed by Michele Menescardi, Lazyâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s winding lines recall nordic athmospheres. With its exceptionally comfortable seat cushion, lumbar support and matching footrest, you will definitely want to relax in this armchair. Two bases are available: wood for a more materic feel and metal for a minimalistic and easy look.

- MATERIALS The shell and seat cushion are moulded with cold pour polyurethane foam, the lumbar support cushion is filled with mixed feathers. Leather and fabric coverings available in various colours; choice of metal or wood for the base.

he unique ceramics used by Calligaris for its table tops are obtained by coupling a 3 mm thick slab of porcelain stoneware to an 8mm tempered float glass. These surfaces are exceptionally resistant to scratches, impacts, stains, thermal shocks and chemicals. As they donâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t absorb liquids nor release harmful substances, they are also easy to clean and very hygienic. The Calligaris ceramic finishes include: white, stone grey, nougat and lead grey.

- WHAT IS IT? Available in the fixed and extendible versions, Lam features pure lines, a metal frame and wooden details. The extending mechanism is integrated in and hidden under the top, the legs are always external.

- DESIGN Designer team Busetti Garuti Redaelli wanted a bold design for this table. The uniqueness of Lam is given by the unexpected combination of wood and metal. The wooden top is an invitation to a unique sensorial experience, whereas the moulded and folded metal acts as a contrasting, structural element.

- MATERIALS The wooden veneered top and internal side of the legs are available in Smoke, Grey or Natural finishes. The external sides of the legs, in fixed combination, come in matt black, grey and optical white metal.

- LOOK The angled legs and the combination of two materials allow several interpretations of this table, depending on the viewpoint. Suitable both for the dining room and the office. 103

Frame

- WHAT IS IT? Frame is an exercise in composure conceived by an otherwise very expressive and eclectic designer. With this table, Stephen Burks shows his most structuralist side by inventing what will become a modern classic in living room furnishing.

- DESIGN The lightweight steel frame crisscrosses with different proportions under the glass surface. Partly inspired by Mies and partly by GiĂ˛ Ponti, Frame table combines Burkâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s most important sources of inspiration, thus becoming the piece of furniture that any house should have, an object which fits easily in any environment.

- MATERIALS The extra-white opal or smoke grey glass tops reveal the underlying diamond shaped metal frame, varnished in optical white or matt black.

Masterfully conceived by Marc Sadler, MS4 is anything but extravagant an unusual. However it does conceal a unique feature: the honeycomb surface of the seat hides a complex, underlying structure which offers an extraordinary cushion-like comfort.

here is no single definition that manages to explain what a chair really is. For ninety-two years we have been dealing with chairs and we are as passionate as ever about this object, from its humble origins it has taken on an increasingly important role in contemporary living. The name Calligaris goes hand in hand with the history of the chair, from the time when Antonio Calligaris started his workshop in Manzano, Friuli to produce the legendary “Marocca” – with its curved legs and straw seat, which were typical of the area. Since then we have come a long way, but we have never stopped to think of the chair as a work of art, and continue to dedicate ourselves to it with enthusiasm. In designing our chairs, a collection that now includes a multitude of models and varieties, we take care over every detail – from design to the quality of material.
