AUTUMN & WINTER Made in Scotland 2024

Another exciting year for ScotlandShop! January always starts in style with Burns Night and Suppers around the world. Get your renditions ready for our bigger and better poetry competition in 2025.

In March we gained a new location and member of the family with the acquisition of House of Tartan in Crieff. The shop on the High Street of this beautiful Perthshire town is now fully refurbished and looking fabulous, full of all your favourite products and of course our signature throne upholstered in the Crieff tartan. In behind the shop sits our embroidery operation ready to personalise your tartan with names, dates, clan crests, logos and more.

Events season begins in April with New York City Tartan Week and we love being a sponsor and part of the Parade down 6th Avenue, and

the opportunity to meet lovely customers old and new. Our mascot Tam the Tailor wouldn’t miss it for the world! This year we have done more events than ever, involved in Clan Gatherings across Scotland in some picturesque remote locations, Highland Games in Canada, Scotland and the US. All requests for visits to your part of the world are welcome. And don’t forget there are always our Virtual Appointments if you need help finding your clan or tartan, taking measurements or simply fancy a chat about all things Scotland.

Thank you as always for your passion for our beautiful country and products. We look forward to delivering your very own little piece of Scotland to you very soon,

FROM SCOTLAND with love

We offer a huge range of products in over 500 tartans, some in stock, but most made to order

HOW IT WORKS OR

Choose your tartan. Use our tartan finder to explore more than 1,000 different options by Clan or colour

Choose your Product, filter the range by Product Type or Product Style to focus your selection. Filter by Availability to see what’s in stock and available for immediate dispatch, and what’s available made to order

Add your sizes if it is a tailored item (use our sizing guides if you need some help or book and appointment in our store or pop up locations, or join us virtually via video call)

For fabrics visit the fabric guide or order swatches

Add express make-up if you are in a hurry or have a special event coming up

FIND YOUR Clan or Tartan

Search by name, colour or region

Top tips:

• Every Clan has septs and other names associated with it – these are listed on the Clan pages

• The sound of a name is generally more important than the spelling, as standardised spelling is a fairly recent development

• Many believe Mac is Scottish and Mc is Irish, but in reality this is simply another spelling variation or abbreviation in ancient records

• You might have a Clan or district (regional) connection

What of our Celtic cousins?

The Celtic nations include Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall, Isle of Man and Brittany. There are tartans associated with all these nations and all our products can be made in any of these tartans.

If you need some help and advice finding your tartan, our Customer Service team offers a genuine Scottish welcome. We offer Ancestry, Clan and Tartan experiences, and Measuring Appointments virtually via video call, in person at our Edinburgh or Crieff stores, Duns showroom, from our US base in Albany, NY and at events around Scotland, the USA and Canada.

Clan of the Month

Every month we choose a clan and celebrate their history, castles, and famous faces, adding in an interview or two with interesting people from the Clan or society. We always welcome your input, so if its your Clan’s turn and you have stories to share, let us know. It’s so intriguing to hear the journey of Scots overseas, how they settled where they did, and how you continue to celebrate your heritage in so many differnt ways.

Case Study

Designed for Lime Rock Park, America’s second-longest continuously operating road racing circuit. Open for racing since 1957, Lime Rock Park has played a key role in the rich history of American motorsports. The circuit is based in Lakeville, a village in Connecticut’s Litchfield County, renowned for its historical, cultural and recreational resources. The design was inspired by the family tartan worn by legendary Scottish racing driver, Jim Clark and incorporates the chevron icon and colours included with Lime Rock Park’s branding.

St Andrews

Officially the feast day of Andrew the Apostle, St. Andrew’s Day is celebrated on November 30 every year in Scotland and by Scots throughout the world. St Andrew became the patron saint of Scotland when the country’s independence was declared at The Declaration of Arbroath on 6 April, 1320.

Earl of St Andrews

According to the Scottish Register of Tartans, the Earl of St Andrews tartan was designed specifically for the use of Prince George, the Duke of Kent, who bore the title Earl of St Andrews. The tartan is a relatively modern one registered in 1930.

In 1640 an Act of Parliament officially banned the Christmas holiday, which pushed the partying back to Hogmanay. The Act was partially repealed at the end of the 17th century, but the tradition has stuck, and it was only in 1958 that Christmas became a public holiday in Scotland. Celebrate with ScotlandShop this Hogmanay.

Auld Lang Syne

If you have ever attended a Scottish wedding, ceilidh or celebration, at the end of the evening we do like to belt out the words of Auld Lang Syne. Robert Burns wrote the poem Auld Lang Syne in 1788 and it has been set to a traditional folk song traditionally sung at New Year

Burns Night

Born on 25 January, 1759, Robert ‘Rabbie’ Burns is celebrated as Scotland’s Bard with poems that are popular to this day. In 1801, five years after Burns death, nine of his friends met to celebrate Robert at his house in Ayrshire, perform his work and make speeches, and hence, the Burns Supper was born.

Burns Check

When it was proposed that a Robert Burns tartan should be created, the first idea had been to base it on the Campbell - a clan with which the Burns family were connected - but it was decided more appropriate to model it on the black and white Shepherd's Check
