TAFE Delivered Vocational Education and Training (TVET Courses) Students may also elect to study a course through the Bathurst TAFE (Technical and Further Education) College. These courses can count for two units towards either the Preliminary Higher School Certificate, or the Higher School Certificate. Most do not count towards the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
DISTANCE EDUCATION COURSES Students may apply to study a course by Distance Education. These courses are run by institutions such as Dubbo School of Distance Education or the NSW School of Languages in Sydney. Packages of work are sent to the student, who then completes and returns the work. This is usually by post, although sometimes the work is emailed back to the teacher. There are also telephone lessons, and sometimes the teacher visits our school, or the student is asked to travel to Dubbo or Sydney. A wide range of courses is available, including several languages at Beginners’, Continuers’ and Background Speakers’ levels. The cost of these courses is approximately $800AUD per Year (for Years 11 and 12) and $340AUD per year for Years 9 and 10. Students who study by Distance Education must be good at working independently. Students need to apply in writing to the Head of College if they wish to study by Distance Education. These applications will only be approved if the Head of College believes that this is in the student’s best interest. The College is also subject to a quota, limiting the number of students who may study a Distance Education course.
FEES Accounts are forwarded to families at the beginning of each term and are due in advance. Sundries such as excursions, taxi charges etc are charged each month.
Students proceeding to the Higher School Certificate will be required to pay a fee of approximately $1200 to the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA). The College is happy to provide copies of school accounts to overseas students so that parents can check items with them. Parents must inform Accounts if they wish this to happen.
