Welcome to The Roar your new-look weekly eNewsletter which will be delivered to your email box every Thursday afternoon. Content will include news and information from across the College to help you to plan your week. We will bring you highlights from across Pre-Kindergarten, Junior School (K-4), Middle School (5-8) and Senior School (9-12). New features will be introduced to help ‘get to know’ our staff and connect with some of our past students in ‘where are they now’, space to inspire profiles. Our team welcomes your feedback as we continue to improve the way the College communicates with our College community. Please email your feedback to info@scotsallsaints.nsw.edu.au A student naming competition was held at the end of last year to help name the newsletter. Following a rigorous review process of 58 competition entries by the student leader judging panel, in collaboration with the College Council, the decision was unanimous that the new Scots All Saints College eNewsletter from 2019 will be named The Roar. Congratulations to William Helms, Year 7 in 2019 who named The Roar with the simple, yet effective reasoning behind the new name - “relates to the symbol of the lion in the College crest, representing a strong and courageous voice.”

Assemblies
Out and about with the Headmaster Mr David Gates Exciting day for Scots All Saints Today is a very exciting day for Scots All Saints College; the first day for our new school. I wish to welcome all new families, students and staff to the College. I trust that you will settle in quickly, form new friendships and feel a part of this community. I am looking forward to being present on the three College campuses, to support and encourage staff and students, provide direction and build community. I look forward to meeting many of you in the days ahead. The planning for today has taken place over the last 17 months since the announcement on 29 August 2017 that the Presbyterian Church was going to purchase All Saints’ College. In many respects, the last 17 months has passed quickly but an enormous amount of consultation and hard work has been undertaken to make today a reality. I particularly wish to acknowledge the significant role played by so many. It is appropriate at this time that I acknowledge and thank the tireless efforts of Mr Jeof Falls in doing everything possible to bring these two schools together. It has not been easy, in fact, it has probably been more difficult than anyone could have imagined. But here we are! So much has been achieved in a relatively short time to get ready for this day but so much more is yet to be done. In addition to the commitment of Mr Falls, I wish to particularly acknowledge the huge workload undertaken towards the integration by the new Senior Executive team – Ms Tracey Leaf, Mr Chris Jackman and Mr Greg Jones along with the support of Mr Anthony Roohan as the Director of the Junior School. I also wish to acknowledge the tireless efforts of the Business Manager, Mr Noel Eveleigh, and his staff. To the other senior staff and Heads of Department and all teaching staff who have gone the extra mile to get ready this year; I say thank you. To ensure the success of this transition, consultants were engaged to bring particular expertise, time and an independent perspective. I wish to acknowledge the work of the following consultants: Mr John Weeks on staffing, strategic direction and guidance for me; Mr Jeff Lloyd for innovation in technology, Mrs Mel Monico for communication and marketing; Mr Brett Gore for expertise in the practical translocation; Mrs Amanda Killiby and Ms Margaret McKenzie on uniform design and Mr Jamie Lamshed, responsible for the development of the new College crest, templates for advertising and stationary. As you can see, this has been a massive project and no stone has been left unturned to ensure its success. New website live I am delighted to announce that the new College website goes live today. This has involved a great deal of work and it is still a work in progress, but I hope you enjoy the new look and format. You are able to access the new website at: www. scotsallsaints.nsw.edu.au I am pleased to announce Bathurst and the Central West has a new College in operation from today. It will be all of us that work together to make it a College of excellence. Thank you for being a part of this exciting opportunity.

ROAR THE
Getting to know ..... What is your role? I am the interim Chaplain for Scots All Saints College for 2019. This means I have the privilege of working with a team across all campuses who provide Christian Studies lessons and student engagement opportunities like Cru® groups. I also run weekly chapel services and Parent Weekend chapel services for our college community. As the year progresses, I am hopeful to provide other opportunities for supporting both staff and students to grow in their faith. How long have you been working with our school community? Since 2006, I have been a Chaplain and have also taught science, primarily Stage 6 Physics. Most memorable moment from your time here? The courage and good form students have shown in their engagement in Chapel Services. One particular memory I recall, is when our most diminutive student in the Junior School took on our resident Senior School giant in a tug of war and won! (The rugby boys may have helped ) What do you do when not at school? Family, church and I am studying part-time at Christ College in my last year of ordination studies. I also really enjoy fixing and building things. After learning how to stick-weld, I recently finished building a heavy duty trailer. At the moment, I’m restoring a badly weathered external feature door. What are you looking forward to? Caring for and getting to know this new school community, it is a great adventure and I am very keen to be a part of it. What is your message to parents and carers as they kick-start the new college year? Get involved! Ask sooner rather than later And, as the Apostle Paul says to the Philippian church: “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 [NLT-SE]

Start of Term 1 and our new College
There was some nervousness but loads of bright, happy faces and excitement as students arrived back to school for the start of the term. Thanks to all of the parents for coming along too. It is through your efforts that they all looked polished in their school uniforms. Everyone was warmly welcomed by helpful College staff and were quickly grouped into classrooms ready to start learning in their new school environment. There was certainly a buzz as Senior Students attended their first assembly in Aikman Hall before receiving their timetables so classes could begin. Junior and Middle School students enjoyed the atmosphere on the All Saints Campus grounds. Thank you to Middle School Captains, Zane Newham and Emily Brown together with College parent, Mrs Yani Lenahan joined the Headmaster, Mr David Gates to be interviewed by a large group of media from across the Central West including, Sarah Boorer from 95.1FM 2BS Radio, Western Advocate and Bathurst City Life. Kindergarten students were full of smiles and showed off their work to the TV crews. Tune in tonight to Prime News, Central West, WIN News and Channel Nine for coverage on our new College.
