space to inspire

Comedy writing with Tim On Sunday 29 September, three students and one teacher from Scots All Saints had the opportunity to work with Tim Ferguson – a former All Saints' College student – at his comedy writing course. Tim is a legend of Australian comedy, bursting onto our screens in the mid-80s as one third of the Doug Anthony All Stars, alongside Richard Fidler and Paul McDermott. Natalia Burgess, our Year 12 College Captain and Extension 2 English candidate was in attendance (seen in the photo with an old Blazer) as well as Isaac Cove and George Butler from Year 10. The 8 hour course deconstructed comedic writing and characterisation. He was very impressed with the three students from the College and we were grateful for such a wonderful opportunity. Middle School Mr Chris Jackman Head of All Saints Campus / Director of Middle School

Welcome Back! After a very eventful Term 3, the break was well-timed and certainly appreciated by both students and staff. I trust everyone has had an opportunity to recharge their batteries and get ready for another exciting term of rigour, challenge and fun. New Students I welcome the following Year 8 students, Camryn Jones, Mitchell Foran, Maya Booth and Claudia Pring, to the College. I wish them all the very best for the term ahead and encourage them to make the most of their opportunities at Scots All Saints College. Year 7 Art Display I was most impressed by the beautiful display of artwork by our Year 7 students last term on the verandah of the art room. We have offered some extension art less ons after school on Wednesdays this year that have been really appreciated by our students with a passion for this subject. I look forward to seeing this program grow even further into next year.

It was a very informative evening and I encourage parents to read his book as it has many interesting facts about the effects of computer games and social media use on children’s behaviour. UNIFORM MATTERS - HATS

Mr Warren Stocks (Student Liaison Officer) has accepted a position elsewhere. Warren’s departure is a great loss to our community and I wish to thank him for his dedication over the past year at Scots All Saints College (and previously at All Saints College). Mrs Rebecca Norris will now coordinate absentees and lost property. If your child is absent, please notify the school through CareMonkey or via the College Reception.

Year 9 Camp In the last week of Term 3 our Year 9 students ventured out on an outdoor education experience. The students were split into seven groups with many working on their Duke of Ed Bronze classification and some completing their Cadets Level 1A course. The camp was primarily a hiking based experience with four hikes through various parts of the Wolgan Valley over the four days. The highlights were the glow worm tunnels, exploring Newnes and the epic hike and absolute beauty and privilege to hike and camp in the Grand Hall Canyon on the top of Donkey Mountain. In next weeks edition of The Roar we hope to hear from the students about their experiences.

AFX Cadets Camp In the first week of the recent holiday break seven Scots All Saints Cadets attended the annual seven day Australian Field Exercise camp. From the brief reports that have been received … the students said that it was a great experience – despite being tired, grubby and in need of a shower and sleep. Again, we look forward to hearing from the students in next week's The Roar. Summer Sport Mrs Nelson and Mr Gardner have been putting together the summer sports program and making arrangements for teams, coaches, training venues and equipment. Many of our sports begin this week, some teams with trials and others. Please refer to the sport organisation schedule for details. We remind students of the importance of wearing the correct sports uniform so please get these sorted ASAP. We also encourage students to take preventative measures against the sun by wearing sunscreen, a hat and seeking shade when possible. We have a new sports uniform item which will assist with some sun protection on the arms - a long sleeve light weight shirt. This shirt will be accepted as correct uniform in sport training sessions and PDHPE/PASS classes on the Senior Campus. These shirts are around $38 and available from the Uniform Shop.

Infants Strings are Away We welcomed world renowned musicians Lisa Stewart and Stefan Duwe from the Acacia Quartet to our staff today. They introduced 33 Junior School students from Pre-Kindergarten and up to the violin in an engaging and fun group lesson format. You can tell from these images we will enjoy their performances for many years to come. There are some more spaces for students wishing to join small group or solo lessons. Please contact the school or Music departments if you would like more information. The new Infants Music Room is also looking fantastic after some hard work across the holidays.
