ROAR THE

Scots All Saints Parent Party The 2020 academic year is now in full swing and our students have settled in really well. The P&F and staff warmly invites all parents to our first major gathering of the year. This will be a great opportunity for all of us to get together at a relaxed and informal event on the lawn at the Scots Campus. Details are: Date: Saturday 29 February 2020 Time: 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Location: Karralee Lawn, Scots Campus, 4173 O’Connell Rd, Bathurst

Cost: $20 per person, purchase tickets online via this link scotsallsaintsparents.eventbrite.com.au Tickets must be purchased before Friday, 21 February for catering purposes. Coronavirus update All of our students who had visited China / Hong Kong over the holidays remain completely healthy. They have been regularly checked for any signs of the virus and continue to be absolutely fine. We are inviting them back to school once they have completed the 14-day isolation period and are medically cleared. All students will hopefully finish isolation by the end of next week.

L-R Andrew Gill (Narromine), Anthony Le Couteur, Nikki Murray (Dubbo), Ryan Murray (Dubbo). The Regional Tour team visited the Gill family property, ‘Waterloo’ Narromine where they enjoyed wonderful hospitality, magnificent banana bread and pumpkin soup with Andrew, Norton and Loozy Gill (grandparents of Hannah Gill – Year 9).

Regional tour to connect with past, current and future families Scots All Saints College is visiting a number of regional and rural towns this month to connect with past, current and future families and support local ‘buy from the bush’ campaigns. Director of Boarding, Mr Anthony Le Couteur, is attending the regional tour to meet with

parents and share his vision for Boarding at Scots All Saints College. “We understand most of our families are on the land or working in small business and it can be challenging to leave properties to learn more about education opportunities for their children.”

Upcoming events this month include: Bourke, Cobar, Parkes, West Wyalong, Young and Cowra. We welcome local families, current, past and future to join us. Simply register your interest at events@scotsallsaints.nsw.edu.au for further details.

Parent Information Nights Thank you to everyone who attended the Parent Information nights last week. We hope you enjoyed the opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and find out more about the year ahead. K-6 Swimming Carnival Our Junior School students have been busily preparing for the Swimming Carnival tomorrow. I’m sure everyone will be ready to do their best and earn some points for their team. The carnival begins at 9:15 am with the House chants. Kindergarten and Year 1 students will participate in their ‘Splash and Dash’ race across the pool at approximately 9:30 am with the more competitive age group events following. All students 8 years and older will swim in at least the Freestyle event on the carnival day. Students in Year 2 who are not turning 8 in 2020 will be involved in a 7 Year old non-competitive race. Students who are successful at our school swimming carnival will be selected in the SASC Swimming team to compete at the Western Associated Schools (WAS) and Heads of Independent Co-Educational Schools (HICES) carnivals. You will receive notification if your child is in the swimming team.

behaviour and actions that correlate with the values of the school. Endeavour awards will be presented every second week to a student from each class who has demonstrated effort or improvement in his/her work habits and skills. Lion awards will also be presented every second week to a student from each class for specific academic, social, cultural, sporting or behavioural improvement or excellence. Last year we handed out class awards at the end of each term. This year, class awards will be handed out when a class is rostered on for assembly. Pre-Kindergarten welcome We welcome all of our new and existing families for a fun and exciting year ahead. Pre-Kindergarten have been busy settling into the new daily routines of school life. The first few weeks have seen the students enjoy their specialist classes of Library, Physical Education, Christian Studies and Music. Last Friday was especially exciting for the 3 and 4/5 Day classes as they were introduced to their Year 6 Buddies who will be looking after them all year. The 2 Day class had lots of fun with a ‘Humpty Dumpty’ STEM challenge called The Egg Drop!

Please note that there is no BBQ or canteen at the swimming carnival so students will need to bring their own food and drinks for the day. Assembly Awards in 2020 There will be no assembly this Friday 14 February as we will all be busy swimming at the K-6 Swimming Carnival. Both Year 4 classes will lead assembly on Friday 21 February. Junior School Spirit awards will be presented at every assembly. This award is presented to a student from each class who has demonstrated

2020 Public Speaking Program We’ll be making some exciting changes to our Junior School Public Speaking Program in 2020. Term 1 will have a similar look and feel to previous years but there will be some changes for Term 2 and 3 including a personal research project and ‘pitch.’ Further information will be distributed in up-coming weeks. Pick up and drop off With the new location of classrooms in 2020, I encourage Year 1 and 2 parents to use the drop off area near these classrooms. Stage 2 parents should use the carpark at the front of the administration block whilst Kinder can use either area. Just a reminder that playground supervision commences at 8:25 am. Home reading and morning reading It has been wonderful to see so many students reading in the morning before school. I encourage all students to get into this routine and to be reading at home each night as well. Assembly Roster T1 2020 Week

ROAR THE

Senior School Mrs Tracey Leaf Head of Scots Campus / Director of Senior School & Boarding

This week we officially acknowledged the start of the new academic year with our Commencement Service. My thanks to the staff and students who participated in what was an uplifting service that highlighted the healthy sense of community that is developing here on the Scots Campus. A special thanks to the student leaders who led out in the formal part of the service and those who contributed musically. Mr Weeks’ address encouraged and challenged us to focus this year on developing in our lives the fruits of the spirit – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control (Galatians 5:22). Uniform Matters Students must be wearing their correct school uniform to school. This includes the official College formal hat.

Communication with the school Attendance – Parents are to record their child’s absence on CareMonkey or by calling the school. Late to school – Students must sign in at Reception if they are late to school. Academic Leave – Requests for academic leave should be emailed to the Director of Senior School (tracey.leaf@ scotsallsaints.nsw.edu.au)

ROAR THE

JS & MS Sport Mrs Kay Nelson Coordinator of Sport K-8

The new School year brings a fast and furious entry into the sports program. This year is no different with our students well and truly into the swing of things. The Kindergarten – Year 6 Swimming Carnival will be held this Friday. All students will be involved in at least a freestyle race on the day, with many students competing in the form stroke finals. The carnival will begin at 9:15 am with the well-rehearsed House War Cries followed by the Kindergarten and Year 1 races across the pool. Many thanks to the parents who have been able to time keep prior to the carnival and to those who can lend a hand on the day. Good luck to all students involved. Our summer sports teams are moving closer to the final rounds in Touch Football, Basketball, Cricket and Tennis. I encourage all students to stay committed to their training sessions and to work cohesively with their coaches and team mates to get the best out of their chosen sport. The Water Polo clinic with Olympian Nikita Williams, was held last Friday. Students who are 12 years and under will have the opportunity to again play in the State Gala Day to be held in Orange in a few weeks’ time. Our young tennis players continue to enjoy their lessons on a Monday afternoon and students in the swimming program are making good progress as their skills in the water flourish. The lunch time Water Polo competition for Middle School students started this week. The 112 students involved have been placed into one of 16 teams. Students have the responsibility of checking the draws and ensuring that they are organised and on time ready to play. Whilst students are enjoying the physical and social benefits of playing a sport at lunch time, their teachers are enjoying the cognitive benefits that follow in periods 5 & 6. Triathletes who have had experience competing in club triathlons and would like to enter the All Schools Triathlon event Years 7 – 12 should see Mrs Nelson or
