Camp Snapshot: Learn foundational concepts in the game of chess. We’ll start out with the basics; how chess pieces move, the three stages of a chess game, and, of course, how a game is won. We’ll also focus on some of the life skills chess can teach us, such as learning to make and adapt plans, thinking from someone else’s perspective, and creative problem-solving. Along the way there will be puzzles, mini-games, and fun chess variants.

Camp Snapshot: There are many women in professional sports who found their passion for sports at a young age. This week we will spend some time learning about some of these super stars (think Venus and Serena!) and their contributions to sports. The best part? We will emulate these famous women and play all the sports they did! Each day we will learn about a new athlete and practice some skills. Some athletes may include Simone Biles, Alex Morgan, and Misty Copeland.

Golf

Camp Snapshot: Golf is a lifetime sport and this week will get children started in the game or hone their existing skills. Players will receive a daily lesson from a PGA pro and will work on swing components, putting, and course etiquette. After the lessons, players will be grouped by level and play a daily round of golf with a coach. Courses may include Reeves, Little Miami, Meadow Links, and World of Golf. Participants must bring their own clubs and golf balls.

Wilderness Warriors

Camp Snapshot: Looking to sharpen your camping and outdoor skills? In this camp, students will practice putting up a tent, create their own hiking stick, learn about the rules of leaving no trace outdoors, and much more. A variety of camping themed games and crafts will round out this fun-filled week. (Please note: there is no overnight camping trip during this camp.)

Camp Snapshot: Former Cincinnati Red Todd Benzinger will lead campers through a variety of fun games and challenges that will develop the skills that make for a good baseball player — hitting, throwing, catching and baserunning. Throughout the week they will also learn the proper mindset and attitude it takes to be a winning baseball player — and great teammate!

Makerspace Madness

Camp Snapshot: Stay cool while sparking your creativity and honing your engineering, science, and art skills this summer! Campers will create super cool inventions in the Happen Inc. Toy Lab, Lotspeich Makerspace, as well as take trips to other creative reuse sites around the city.
