WINTER | SPRING

GUIDE

Dear Friend, I’m so thankful you’ve joined us here at Scottsdale Bible. One of our primary values is authentic community. We all need a group of people who can get to know us personally, share life with us and encourage us to pursue Jesus. We believe life is better when lived in community. Whether you’re new to our church or have been attending for years, I invite you to read through this catalog and choose a place to take your next step. It’s a great way to explore the many ways to grow in relationships within our church community. Whatever your life stage, interests or faith experience, there’s a place for you here. Our lives are truly more purposeful and glorifying to God when we journey together with one another.

Your pastor and friend,

Jamie Rasmussen

Let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as we see the Day drawing near. -Hebrews 10:24-25

TUESDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDIES * January 19–March 8, 9-11:30am, Shea A Building

CONNECTION TIME AT THE CAFÉ 9-9:30am

We have set aside this special time for you to grab a free cup of coffee, visit with your friends, meet new women, and then head to your Bible study together!

Teachers: Pencie Culiver & Eva Williams

The apostle Paul knew the importance of discipleship—he mentored Timothy and pointed the way for Titus. Paul’s letters are packed with instructions, guidelines, principles and encouragement. In this study by Max Lucado, we’ll learn how these practical words of wisdom are valuable keys to discipleship. Embracing God’s Truth About Me Teachers: Pat Sloan

God Himself is the source and object of our joy as believers. Our joy is rooted in our understanding of who Christ is, what He has done for us, and who we are in Him. As we continue to grow in and embrace His Truths for us personally, then our joy will be evident and contagious. Join us in this interactive class as we study and embrace the powerful Truths of our identity in Christ—who God says we are! Colossians: Christ Is Enough

Teacher: Julie Dickison & Nichole Nicholls

When times are hard, relationships are strained, and victory over sin feels impossible, what you believe to be true about Christ really matters. Let the book of Colossians remind you that the One who rules over all creation is sufficient for every need of your heart. This in-depth study involves daily homework, small group discussion and biblical teaching that will challenge us to apply God’s Word deeply into our everyday lives and brokenness.

Moving on After Moving In

Breath – The Life of God in Us

Teacher: Susan Miller

Teachers: Shela-Lyn Boxberger & Lyn Arnold

This is the place to be if you’re new in town! Join us for a powerful, hands-on study that uses biblical principles and practical application to help women going through the transition and adjustment of moving find the courage to put down roots all over again. Based on the book After the Boxes Are Unpacked, this study will help you with the process of letting go, starting over, and moving ahead with life after a move.

In this study by Beth Moore, we’ll experience a transformative encounter with the Spirit of God, discovering we have creativity and originality in us that could never be possessed without Him. As long as we have breath, we can cry out to our God for any need in our lives, and the Holy Spirit is able to transform us and the challenges we face. This study is a lecture series, so there is less homework than a typical Beth Moore Bible study.

If you’ve had this experience, you can learn to accept God’s free gift of forgiveness and experience true freedom through Christ. PACE is a 10-week confidential group that studies Surrendering the Secret by Pat Layton. Groups are forming for winter 2016. STUDENTS

IMPACT OUR WORLD

SUNDAY MORNINGS

AFRICA HOPE CENTER

Grades 6-12 | Sundays, 11am, Student Lounge

Join with other students each Sunday as we build relationships, get to know God, and learn how the Bible relates to our daily lives. Students are challenged to “take over” the morning by volunteering to help in all areas: teaching, worship, games and/or greeting. This is a unique opportunity for students to challenge themselves in leadership.

JUNIOR HIGH SMALL GROUP Wednesdays, 6:30pm, Student Lounge

In our Wednesday small groups, we strive to provide a place for students to further their understanding of God, the Bible and themselves. Come see your spiritual life grow, and form meaningful friendships as you take your relationship with God to the next level.

PERIMETER PROJECT – HIGH SCHOOL BIBLE STUDY

It began in 2005 with a simple mission: to support a small group of orphans in Kenya whose parents died of AIDS. In 2007, Pastor Joseph came to Mountain Valley Church with the hope of gaining the commitment of eight sponsors. After sharing the heartbreaking story and plight of the orphans in his community, the church responded with 76 commitments. With several churches and donors now throughout the U.S., construction funds and more sponsors have started supporting the orphans. In 2012, Africa Hope Center moved into its new home with 110 children being housed, fed and educated. They also receive medical attention and counseling. To adopt an orphan or donate toward the Center, contact mountainvalley@scottsdaledalebibile.com.

SHORT-TERM MISSION TEAMS Consider joining one of the upcoming Scottsdale Bible short-term missions teams. Learn more on pages 32.

Sundays, 5-8pm, Student Lounge

On Sunday nights, our high school students enjoy dinner together, Bible study and small groups. This is a great opportunity for students to get plugged in, meet new friends and hang out together. _________________________________________________________________________________________________
