WINTER • SPRING 2014

C A T A L O G Dear friend, God designed us to be in a thriving relationship with Him and to engage in meaningful ways with other people. That’s where real living takes place! Whether you’ve just made a decision to follow Christ, are new here, or have been attending for years, I invite you to take your relationship with God and connection with others to the next level. To do that, there are three important activities we suggest you include in your week: Worship – Take time to express gratitude to God, praise Him and learn from His Word together with others. Connect – Be intentional about devoting time to friendships and experiencing life together with others. Small groups are a great place to do this! Serve – Whether here at church or in our community, find a place to plug in. Your life will be enriched when you use your time and gifts to help others. That’s it! If you will commit one to two hours a week to each of these pursuits, I’m confident you will grow in your walk with God and in your relationships with other people. This Connection Catalog is a great place to start! It’s full of opportunities for you and everyone in your family to join in and get involved. I encourage you to read through the descriptions and choose at least one that grabs your attention. No matter your age, life stage, or where you are on your faith journey, there is a place for you! Take the first step and get ready to see your life ascend to a new level of growth and purpose.

Your pastor and friend,

Jamie Rasmussen

In this study, a wake-up call is issued, looking to Jesus’ return. The biblical signs of the times are used to ignite a personal revival in your heart. If the time is short, are you ready to meet Jesus face to face? Come learn to go deeper and prepare for an abundant entrance into HIS Kingdom.

MONDAY MORNING BIBLE STUDY *

Crazy Love – Part 2

January 13 – March 3, 10-11:30am

Teachers: Pencie Culliver and Eva Williams

Our Life in Christ – Part 2

Does something deep inside your heart long to break free from the status quo? God is calling you to a passionate love relationship with Himself. The answer in not working harder at a list of do’s and don’ts, but it is falling in love with God. Once you encounter His love, you will never be the same because when you are wildly in love with someone, it changes everything. Completion of Part 1 is not a prerequisite for this course.

Teacher: Margaret Birkemo, Room: E113

We live in a fractured world. How can the pieces be put back together? In Ephesians, Paul lifts the veil from the future allowing us to see God’s plan to unite all things in Christ and shows us the role of the church within that plan. Join us as we continue to explore the concept of being in Christ, the key to Christian living. Completion of Part 1 is not a prerequisite for this course.

Jesus, Israel and Prophecy Teacher: Cathy Wilson

MONDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDIES * January 13 – March 3, 6:30-8:30pm Sacred Secrets – Beth Moore Teacher: Teri Hicks, Room: E105

The world is obsessed with telling secrets for the sake of sensationalism. But not all secrets are poisonous and dark. Sacred Secrets is the new study from Beth Moore that explores the hidden parts of our hearts: some forgiven, some covered, and some just between you and God. Join us this term as we walk into this journey seeking a glorious encounter with Jesus, the lover of our souls and the knower of our hearts.

Pursuing a Blessed Life – Part 2 Teacher: Linda Compton, Room: E205

In this life-changing class, you will learn what it means to live a life that is pleasing to God. Is such a life merely outward conformance to commands, or does it go deeper—to your very heart? In this study of the Sermon on the Mount, you will gain a better understanding of Christ-like character. The primary focus will be on Matthew 6 and 7 where you will learn what Jesus says about prayer, fear, worry, judging others and the “narrow” gate. Most importantly, you will see that it is the power of the Holy Spirit that enables us to lead a godly and rewarding life. Completion of Part 1 is not a prerequisite for this course.

Jesus, Israel, and prophecy…are they connected? Yes! We are going to study Jesus’ life and the culture into which He was born. We will understand how Israel’s destiny is wrapped up in Jesus and what that means to us. Our study will cover Jesus’ first coming and His second coming. We will seek to understand the big picture of the Bible. A study of Jesus, Israel, and prophecy lays the foundation for understanding the Bible.

Moving On After Moving In Teacher: Susan Miller

This is the place to be when you are new in town! Join us for a powerful, hands-on study using biblical principles and practical application to help women who are going through the transition and adjustment of moving find the courage to put down roots all over again. This study will help women with the process of letting go, starting over, and moving ahead with life after a move. Based on the book After the Boxes are Unpacked, the class materials are designed to minister to the heart of newcomers.

Revival or Captivity – Precept Study Teacher: Mele Simonson

What do the events that led up to the Assyrian Exile of the Northern Kingdom of Israel have to do with your walk with Christ in 2014, current world events and God’s plans for the future? EVERYTHING! In this class, you will learn a powerful way to study and understand the Bible yourself!

STEPHEN MINISTER TRAINING * Mid-October 2014 – Mid-March 2015 What is Stephen Ministry? The Stephen Ministry Program is confidential. Those receiving care can be assured that their identity and the caring relationship will remain private. Stephen Ministers are committed Christians who regularly visit with others to offer support and care. Examples of those who need care are the hospitalized, bereaved, aging or elderly, separated or divorced, those in a job crisis, or those going through a spiritual crisis. Through Stephen Ministry, God brings new life and renewed faith in both the care receiver and the Stephen Minister. Is God calling you to serve in this way? If so, download an application at scottsdalebible.com/counseling. Once your application is received, a screening interview will be scheduled. The training class runs from October to May and provides 50 hours of weekly training.
