oin the Scotts Valley and San Lorenzo Valley Chambers of Commerce for this very special joint Networking Mixer. This event is open to the entire community! Guest will be treated to wine tasting delicious refreshments, a raffle, and entertainment. Appropriately named in the 1880s and originally a retreat for the Hall family, Hallcrest sits at the crest of a small hill above the town of Felton. In 1941, Chaffee Hall, a prominent business attorney from San Francisco, acted on his passion for wine and planted the Hallcrest Estate vineyard. An on-site winery followed in 1945 and is still in use today.

The first vintage was released in 1946. At the time, Hallcrest was one of only three wineries in the Santa Cruz Mountains and the only one producing varietal wines from estate vineyards. Hallcrest Vineyards quickly became one of the outstanding wineries in California, known for its Cabernet Sauvignon and White Riesling. Acclaim for the wines combined with Hall’s reputation as a winemaking pioneer in the Santa

Cruz Mountains further elevated Hallcrest wines’ status. In 1987, John Schumacher and his family bought the Hallcrest site, which had been operating as Felton Empire Winery since Chaffee Hall’s death. John and his family restored the original Hallcrest name and label. They pursue Chaffee Hall’s original crusade to make uncompromised quality wines from the Santa Cruz Mountains. Hallcrest is family owned and operated by the Schumacher’s. The winery’s focus is on handcrafting premium wine in small lots that bear a “signature” Santa Cruz Mountain Appellation character.

MusicalMe – Music Educator, Lizz Hodgin M usicalMe, Inc. offers the researchbased, award-winning Music Together® Early Childhood Music & Movement Enrichment Program in Santa Cruz, Santa Clara and Monterey Counties. Lizz Hodgin and her team are passionate about bringing children and their caregivers closer through shared music making and helping people discover the joy and educational value of early music experiences.” Lizz goes on to say; “Music Together made such a difference in our lives, and still does. Music is special, it’s magical. Making Music Together with my son was exactly what I imagined I’d do with my pre-

cious baby before he was born and before the reality of post-partum depression and exhaustion hit me. Attending class every week was our special time together, the guaranteed time set aside to fully focus on being with him – singing and dancing and having a wonderful time together, just the way I had imagined being a mom would be. And now? Well, now I can’t get him to stop singing!” According to the experts, “Families should immerse their children as early as possible in a music-rich environment.” “They’re absolutely SPOT ON,” says Lizz Hodgin, Director of MusicalMe, Inc. (“MMI”). As our local Early Childhood Music Expert, Lizz is sharing this brief list of reasons (“There are MANY more, believe me!”) why children should be immersed in music as early as possible based on the latest research: • All children are musical, meaning they are born with the potential, or aptitude, to learn to participate in the music of their culture. • Immersion in a musically rich, nonperformance oriented environment, in which children feel free to play and experiment is essential. • Parents should be patient with and nonjudgmental about their children’s musical experimentation, as musical development occurs in stages, over time.

• Making music is as basic a life skill — just like walking and talking, as music is one of the multiple intelligences through which children know the world and are able to express themselves in it. • Research has shown that music learning supports all aspects of children’s cognitive, linguistic, physical, and social emotional development. MMI offers the Music Together® program in Ben Lomond, Campbell,

Capitola, Cupertino, Los Gatos, Pleasure Point, Marina, Santa Cruz, Saratoga, Scotts Valley, the Summit & Watsonville. Classes are available for children from birth through kindergarten age with one or more adult caregiver. ••• For more information, to Register or to schedule a Free Class, contact MusicalMe, Inc. via phone at (831) 438-3514 or via email at registrar@musicalme.com or online at www.musicalme.com.
