2009 HELP FIGHT BACK™AGAINST CANCER

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature activity. It offers everyone in a community an opportunity t o participate in the f ight a gainst cancer. Teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, o r fairground a nd t ake turns walking or running a round a track o r path. E ach team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times d uring the event. Relays are an overnight event, up to 24 hours in length.

WELCOME Welcome to the 9th Annual Relay For Life of Littleton! I want to thank each and every one of your for your support of this event and of the American Cancer Society. This Relay for Life event is one of Denver’s largest. This is due to the incredible energy and spirit of the community of Littleton.

Just one year ago we gathered at Hudson Gardens. We gathered to celebrate the achievements in the fight against Cancer. We gathered to honor those who had survived this disease. We gathered to remember those who we have lost. We gathered to raise money to provide the much needed funding in our mission to eradicate cancer. And though we are winning this fight, our task is not yet complete. So now, we are here again to raise our collective voices against cancer.

We do this knowing that our gathering brings real HOPE. Last year we raised over $75,000 in the fight against Cancer. Our time, our energy, and our money were well spent. Thanks in part to our efforts; the American Cancer Society was able to fund several incredible breakthroughs in the treatment and prevention of a number of cancers. They were also able to organize a mass demonstration in our nation’s capital, so that our voices would be heard. And there is evidence that our voices have been heard. Progress has been made to change legislation both at the local and national level to provide funding for research and health care, and to create laws that improve the environment around us and protect us from Cancer causing agents.

Tonight as we join in the fight for our lives and the lives of our loved ones, we can take comfort in knowing that our efforts have had meaning to so many.

Let us continue to have HOPE. HOPE, that those who we’ve lost to cancer will never be forgotten; HOPE that those who face cancer will be supported; and HOPE that one day soon cancer will be eliminated.

As you walk around the track and stay up all night your experience will symbolize what a cancer patient goes through since cancer doesn’t sleep. As you take your turn on the track remember that there is no finish line until we find a cure. You are making a difference right now. You are part of a team of over a million people Relaying every year. Like a cancer patient, you will be exhausted when you leave tomorrow morning after staying up all night but you will leave knowing that you have contributed to the American Cancer Society’s mission: preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from the disease. For this I thank you.

Lap Themes: Have fun while you walk and dress to impress! Check out the list of the theme laps we will have tonight and see who has the most impressive gear!

Team Spirit Contest: Spice up your tent site with decorations to go with your team’s theme. Show the most enthusiasm, as the Team Captains will pick the winner.

Tumble Boogie:

A fantastic collection of whimsical games and toys and a playground built right into a bus. Fantastic fun for kids of all ages.

Live Music:

Keep an eye out for a wide variety of entertainment. We have many performers lined up for your enjoyment. See the Relay Schedule for the list of acts and their performing time.

Glow in the Dark Vollyball:

ever wondered wanted to play volleyball outside but it was too dark? Not on this fun court its not! Glow in the dark volleyball has you covered.

Movies in the Morning: The best movies are in the late night, how about really really late night on the big screen!

Mr. Relay Contest:

Come check out the “hunks” of the Relay strut their stuff on the catwalk as these contestants compete for the title of “Mr. Relay.” (Midnight)

Food: There are some businesses and fund raising sites here to help keep you energized during the event. Make sure to visit their area for refreshments and to contribute to their fund raising efforts. Plus there will be treats provided by M&M’s, Fuze, Panera Bread and Abo’s midnight pizza.

Late Night Bingo:

Pass the time in the wee hours of the morning by joining in a free game of the age-old classic.

Team Tents

Break out your $$ and visit the team tents for prizes and fundraisers to help us reach our goal. Everything under the sun is being raffled or sold and the proceeds benefit the Relay.

Luminaria Sales

Purchase a Luminaria in honor of a survivor or in memory of someone who lost their battle to cancer. Luminaria bags can be purchased at the north end of the track near the entrance.

Drawing Prizes

Purchase tickets to throw in the cans for your chance to win a number of fantastic prizes!
