We are honored to present yet another edition of The Scout Guide Austin .
It feels like this guided collection of local businesses is fittingly volume eleven, a number that is commonly said to be representative of a “unique sense of heightened vibration”...a definition we feel perfectly speaks to the over sixty businesses gracing these pages…unique, passionate, and carrying with them a certain vibration that is particular to Austin, Texas.
We say this quite often, but as we watch towers rise and businesses that have long been institutions to this quirky city disappear, it’s worth reiterating: small businesses are the backbone of our community, from neighborhood corner stores, live music venues, and coffee shops to restaurants, artisans, and boutiques. Austin is by turns innovative and yet somehow also free-spirited, there is a home for everyone here.
Now, that also includes Georgetown, Texas, a suburb that has long been part of the fabric, but one that is now feeling the pressure of being the fastest-growing city by percent change in America (per Census.gov). The longtime locals are seeing the changes for the good and the bad. This edition pays tribute to a few of their small business owners, as well as their town square, dubbed the most beautiful in Texas. It’s worth a day trip and this volume equips you with all the insider knowledge needed to head “North of Cool.”
To each local business owner in this book, you have taught us so much about what creativity, passion, and an unmistakably Austin-like spirit of “anything is possible” can produce. You each deserve to have your names shouted from the rooftops.
And finally, thank you to our loyal readers—those who live in this city and those who admire it from afar. Let these pages serve as a window into the local magic found only in Austin, then please go out and use this guide to support real people in your community living out their dreams.
With gratitude,
ShannonBland & Helen Matheson

Lauren is proud to call Georgetown, Texas, home. Established in 1848, Georgetown is the home of red poppy fields, charming historic buildings, iconic dining experiences, and unmatched local shopping. Georgetown sits just north of Austin. It moves at a slightly slower pace, but still explodes with charm and character. It seems as though as the Central Texas area changes, Georgetown stays the same.
Friday
8:00 Pilates class; kick off the perfect weekend in Georgetown with a workout at Truecore Fitness! Imagine a boutique fitness experience in a loft-style studio that overlooks the square. It’s a real treat!
9:30 Georgetown does not lack a good cup of coffee! Pop in 309 Coffee for a real local’s experience. It seems like everyone becomes friends here.
11:00 Travel back in time and take your kids to All Things Kids, a sweet and wholesome toy store with an ice cream parlor in the back.
12:00 Next up? Lunch at Goodfolks. The good ol’ southern food your stomach and heart craves!
2:00 Did someone say antique shopping? Georgetown is a destination for antique lovers but our favorites are Gatherings and Rough & Ready.
5:00 Dinner at The Golden Rule. The vibes are as immaculate as the food and drinks, and the owner, Cody Hirt, can make you the perfect Chilton.
7:00 There’s no better local’s ending to the day than fudge from Kilwins.
Saturday
8:00 Start the weekend off with a cinnamon roll from the one and only Sweet Lemon Kitchen. They are made fresh in-house and only available ‘til they sell out…which is fast. That’s why we recommend making this your FIRST stop.
9:00 Walk off Sweet Lemon on the square, window shopping and popping into each little shop owned by charming locals, then continue the morning in the grass around the courthouse, which sits at the center.
12:00 Carve out time to sit with an old friend (or new one!) at Union Merchant, a quaint spot to grab a small cheese board and enjoy a good glass of wine in the courtyard surrounded by French-inspired interiors.
2:00 We’re catching a matinee showing at the Palace Theatre, where we’ll watch a live musical and feel like we’ve been transported back to simpler times.
5:00 Dinner at El Monumento, the best authentic Mexican food sitting right on the river. Wonderful, fresh food with

a fun and relaxing vibe! Their margaritas are the perfect segue to Saturday’s finale.
7:00 We’ll finish off this night at Mesquite Creek Outfitters, a relaxing, laddish spot where friends can gather to enjoy a beer or glass of wine and play cards. It’s truly a unique experience, and weirdly feels like you’re mentally in a mountain town, but with your feet cemented in Texas.
MONUMENT CAFEin Georgetown
WILLIAMSON COUNTY COURTHOUSE
Sunday
8:00 Mandatory Sunday morning breakfast at the Monument Cafe. Since 1995, Monument Cafe has prided itself on only serving fresh food, made completely inhouse by its employees. I guess that’s why Guy Fieri has frequented it on more than one occasion for Diners, DriveIns and Dives, and the Food Network named it one of their top places to eat.
GRACE HERITAGE CENTER
Connect with Lauren
10:00 Stroll the quiet streets under the oaks and listen to the church bells.
12:00 Pop in Lark & Owl, the local bookstore. Grab a sandwich at the bistro inside and kick back with a recommended book.
2:00 Visit Sweet Eats Fruit Farm for an outdoor seasonal adventure that all ages will enjoy!
5:00 End the weekend with dinner at Juliet Italian Kitchen.

LOCAL AUSTIN BEVERAGES
Austin’s local beverage scene is unlike any other — we are truly spoiled for choice! Pop into any boutique grocer or local café, and you’ll be met with a “bevie” of choices. From coffee to kombucha to spirits and more, here are the local libations we love.
