National Scout Commissioner Assumes 2nd Term From his very first day, he has made his vision very clear; for Scouting in Trinidad and Tobago to be a movement not only for young people but of young people. His work towards fulfilling the Youth Involvement requirements of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) has seen the reintroduction of the National Youth Commissioner role and the National Youth Council.

The Executive of ScoutsTT has put forward their recommendation for Roger Berkeley to start his second three-year term as National Scout Commissioner. The Association is pleased to have Berkeley continue in the position after a first term that saw quite a few changes, the first of which was the rebranding exercise that saw the shortening of the name to ScoutsTT, the updating of the website (www.scouts.tt) and, perhaps most notably, the updating of all the youth programs (Cub Scout, Scout and Venture Scout).

Roger is looking forward to continuing what he started three years ago. He sees the Rover Section, which officially launched with the first all-crew group at UWI in September 2017, as a way to keep young people in the movement and bridge the gap to leadership. While the Rover Program is still being developed, Youth Commissioners are in the process of being appointed for each of the 20 Scout Districts across the country. His professional HR experience as well as his personal experience as a Group Scout Leader have been great assets in his ability to envision, plan and execute positive changes. We at ScoutsTT are glad to have him on board to lead our mission to develop character amongst our young people.

ScoutsTT Partners with San Fernando Heritage The San Fernando Heritage Trust (SFHT) was established in November 2016 by the San Fernando City Corporation to preserve and promote the history and heritage of the city of San Fernando. It is a registered non-profit organisation functioning under the auspices of the city corporation with the Mayor as its Patron. They highlight all indigenous, cultural and artistic contributions to the heritage of the
city and aim to create a sustainable heritage tourism program through their city tours and special events such as their Annual Heritage Day as well as collaborative efforts with individuals and other organisations. Recently, ScoutsTT formed a partnership with SFHT that will see both organisations lending their resources to the fulfilment of each other’s program.
Part of creating active citizens is getting young people educated about our country and its heritage. We look forward to working with San Fernando Heritage Trust and their contribution to the development of our young people.

The meeting, which was held at the Mayaro Government Secondary School, also known as Mayaro Composite, went off without any hiccups. The turnout, though small, showed a few of the dedicated scouts in the district. In attendance were; Aquila John, Patricia Joseph, Kurschelle Xavier and Kevon Williams who are all venture scouts at 1st Mayaro Sea Scouts, along with, Weena Rajkumar the Youth Advocacy Coordinator

to assist the sport of Kayaking. He also announced an upcoming initiative to help youths get introduced to different sports. Minister Smith also took the opportunity to take a kayak out onto the water.
The event kicked off with a small opening ceremony before the first oar hit the water. As was customary, 6th Trinidad Sea Scouts from St. Mary’s College were on the ground assisting with getting the racers into the water and making sure they were prepared.
This year’s river race was among the best so far. I expect only better things, like more scouts taking part and earning medals in all categories for next year and the years ahead.
A number of scouts took part in the race from 1st Trinidad Sea Scouts, 1st Naparima Sea Scouts as well as 6th Trinidad Sea Scouts. Many of these scouts medaled on the day. Minister of Sport, Darryl Smith was present at the award ceremony, where he pledged
and leader at the 1st Mayaro Sea Scout troop as well as Kai Baker, another leader from 1st Mayaro Sea Scouts. These eager and dedicated scouters were educated by Damian about the Youth Network and its functions. Near the end of the meeting we gathered feedback on the proposed uniform change as well as the performance quality of leaders in the district. All in all, the meeting was a success! The Youth Network will be attempting to visit a different district each month! Want us to visit your district? Let us know by contacting any of the Network members.
Q&A With ILT Participant Isaac Thomas - Age 21
What is your favourite thing about Scouting: My favourite thing about Scouting is being able to grow and develop as a young man with people of different races and backgrounds, showing the true meaning and innocence of unity.
from this experience to make Scouting more enjoyable for young people both already involved and interested in joining. I also see myself pushing to be a leader with a succession plan because we all won't be here forever. I think a great leader creates leaders.
What are you looking forward to the most at ILT? I am looking forward to gaining the knowledge and experience, which go hand in hand, that I can bring back to Trinidad and Tobago.
History in Scouting: Started my scouting journey at the age of 13 at the 3rd Trinidad Sea Scouts, where I held the position of D.P.L and later on P.L.
How do you see yourself contribution to ScoutsTT in the future? I see myself firstly being a voice and/or mediator for the young men in my district and by extension the country. Secondly, I see myself using the knowledge gathered
Let us wish Isaac a safe and enjoyable trip! We hope to see him excel and be a mentor for younger scouts coming up in the movement.

Remembering Victor Lynch Victor Lynch, at one time, was a household name in the Association, and more so at Scout Headquarters, as he was the go-to person for answers on anything Scouting related.

We, the members of the Scout Association of Trinidad and Tobago, are saddened by the passing of Victor Lynch and extend our sincerest condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.
One of the objectives of Scouting is to train its members from an early age to develop their leadership and social skills. These skills were recognized in Victor by the Association and over the years he was elevated to serve in various positions in the organisation. Victor would often quip that he was a jack of all trades and a master of none but we at Headquarters saw and recognized in him a real master at everything in which he was engaged. After all, he was called a “Scout Master.” Scouting has always been a voluntary organisation and none of its leaders are paid for the work they do. People like Victor, who so tirelessly and unselfishly give of their time and talent to ensuring that the
