This year the activities of the Jamboree were done at five sites: Diego Martin, Naparima, Arima, Tobago and Scout Headquarters, where over three hundred individuals participated in JOTA JOTI. These sites were coordinated by volunteers who included both leaders and stakeholders. Whilst the JOTA JOTI was usually done in Arima and Diego Martin with the head of the Headquarters team, these two sites had an expanded program over the weekend. In Naparima, individuals from as far as Point Fortin district participated. They were also exposed to a new dynamic of
the jamboree, where they each tried to complete the JAMPUZ as well as the BINGO by talking with and collecting JIDs from across the seven recognized regions of WOSM. Seven because the WOSM headquarters is recognized as one. It is hoped that for upcoming Jamborees many more sites will be set up so that not only will there be more avenues for participation across ScoutsTT but an even greater number of young people can be introduced to and participating in the wonders of communication.

helped with the printing of “Gift-a-Bag” tickets and the purchase of items for the “Gift-a-Bag” hampers.
Corporate support has been instrumental in getting our first annual national food drive off the ground. Project sponsors Massy Foundation were very eager to support our initiative and came on board from the onset.
Corporate support came in different ways. National Flour Mills donated rice and flour for us to fill bags to be donated to needy individuals and families; Blink | bmobile purchased 10 tickets, which were donated to residents of the St. Ann’s River North area through the help of Councillor Hillan Morean; and National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB) purchased 10 tickets, which were given to Moulton Hall Methodist School for them to donate to their neediest students.
After launching in May 2016, we earned the support of Massy Stores who showed a lot of support for the project by providing collection bins at all of their locations across the country. Massy Stores also

ScoutsTT is grateful for the support in making this, our first year, a success. We are encouraged that companies and citizens have responded to our call to help feed those in need and put and end to hunger. The final distribution will be held on October 28th. Ticket holders can redeem their hampers between 11:00am and 2:00pm at the following locations: FEEL Warehouse (Laventille), Charran’s Book Store (Chaguanas) and Boodram’s Den (3rd T’dad Sea Scouts’ HQ— San Fernando) on September 30th and October 28th. Volunteers from Blink | bmobile present their donated hampers to Roger Berkeley (National Scout Commissioner) and Yvan Mendoza of ScoutsTT

Backwoodsman Cooking
Scout Movement (WOSM). JOTA-JOTI is a youth programme event intended for young people in Scouting of all ages.
By: Sachin Seejattan Backwoodsman cooking is considered by many scouts as one of the toughest skills to learn after pioneering. The basics of backwoodsman cooking and fire lighting is good knowledge to have as a scout who is always prepared. It is also a requirement for the Cook and Camp Cook proficiency badges as well as part of the Outdoor Skills training programme. The secret to successful backwoodsman cooking is to build a good fire in a well-rounded trench that will provide hot embers or coals, for it is on embers that we cook - not flames. One of the problems with embers is that they tend to become cool after a short while so practise makes perfect. Aluminium foil can be used to construct pots and envelopes. This type of cooking is known in scouting as “lightweight cooking”.
JOTA-JOTI is an occasion to celebrate Scouting and to generate positive energy to support the development of the Scout Movement.
For example, you can use orange skins and onion shells to cook eggs in. Onion shells can be created by cutting an onion in half and scooping out the core leaving three or four skins in place to form a container. You can also use potatoes or pineapples in the same manner. Amazing much? Some delicious dishes that scouts can make using this type of cooking are: orange or onion eggs, boiled eggs in mud, roti on a stick, baked potato and vegetables, baked chicken and fish, vegetable kebabs, roasted corn and many more.
In survival camps where there is no access to kitchen utensils, backwoodsman cooking allows you to use the things you can find to prepare your meal. Leaves, dirt and bamboo can be used for the fire; pots and cups can be made from green twigs and branches; and it’s quite possible to use food as containers for other food stuff.
