PRESENTACIÓ/PRESENTATION Durant les dues darreres edicions de LOOP Barcelona, vam centrar l’interès en debatre qüestions relacionades amb la producció d’obres d’art vinculades a la imatge en moviment. Ambdues edicions tenien la missió d’explorar formes alternatives de producció dins l’ecosistema de l’art, ja fos a través de l’apropiació d’estratègies que provenen d’altres camps com el cinema, o bé destacant la necessitat de cooperació i co-creació com a possibles respostes a la precarietat del context econòmic actual. Aquest 2014 hem detectat una altra necessitat: fer front als mecanismes de difusió d’aquest tipus de produccions artístiques, fet que significa no només debatre les estratègies de circulació i distribució de les pràctiques artístiques basades en la imatge en moviment sinó també, i de manera destacada, considerar com es promou la seva recepció per part del públic, com es consumeix aquest art –tant des d’un punt de vista simbòlic com econòmic– i com els públics se n’apropien. En darrer lloc, volem abordar el paper que

juga la pedagogia en la formació, desenvolupament i apoderament de les audiències. És important recordar que l’art necessita públics, i que són aquests els responsables de legitimar-lo culturalment a llarg termini. Sense els públics la capacitat estètica, crítica i política que l’art conté es torna inexistent. En aquest context, els públics es configuren com un element al centre dels debats no només des de LOOP Barcelona, sinó a arreu del món. Alguns dels temes que volem abordar són: Quin és el poder específic de les imatges en moviment en relació als públics? Quins són els reptes amb els que es troben aquests productes després de ser produïts? És possible tipificar els públics que consumeixen aquest art en un context d’alfabetització visual? Com són els comportaments dels públics familiaritzats amb les imatges en moviment? De quina manera les diverses estratègies de difusió fomenten una millor apropiació d’aquests productes? Quins criteris d’avaluació han de definir-se per tal de mesurar l’impacte d’aquesta producció artística en els públics?

In the last two editions of LOOP Barcelona, we were interested in debating issues around production of moving image based art works. Both editions of the event were intended to explore alternative ways of producing in the art ecosystem, either appropriating strategies from other fields such as the cinema, or highlighting the necessity of cooperation and co-creation as possible responses to a current precarious economic context. In 2014 we have found another necessity, to tackle the ways those art products are disseminated, which means not only to discuss the various strategies of moving image art circulation, but also and most importantly, to consider how they promote public reception, art consumption –either symbolic or economic–, and appropriation. And last but not least, the role pedagogy plays in developing and empowering audiences. It is important to remember that art needs audiences, as they are the ones responsible of culturally valuing the art products in the long term. Without its publics, any aesthetic, critical and

political capacity art may have would be inexistent. Audiences then should be at the very center of our discussions, not only in LOOP Barcelona but also the entire art world. Some of the questions we would like to discuss are: What is the specific power of moving images towards audiences? What challenges does a work of this sort face once it has been produced? Is it possible to characterize the publics that consume moving image art in a context of visual literacy? How are audiences’ behaviors affected by the familiarity with moving images? How do the various dissemination strategies foster greater appropriation of such products? What evaluation criteria must be defined in order to measure the impact of moving image works on publics?

Col·lecció Macba & Sikkem Jenkins & Co A Place Beyond the Sea presenta un grup de peces que tracten sobre la noció del viatge i els processos que implica: viatges a indrets reals o imaginaris, que tenen lloc en un temps i espai concret i que són representats de maneres diverses. Les històries reunides intenten provocar viatges existencials als espectadors, permetent l’aparició de preguntes sobre les transfor-macions individuals o col·lectives. Allò que canvia i allò que es manté durant o després del viatge, són qüestions que les obres selec-cionades ens conviden a explorar. A Place Beyond the Sea showcases a group of works

that deal with notions of journey and the processes involved: journeys to places, factual or imaginary ones that occur in time and space and are represented in various ways. The stories gathered here attempt to provoke existential journeys in the spectators as they allow the appearance of questions around individual or collective transformations. What is changed or what is kept during and after the journey? These are questions that the selected artworks invite us to explore.

L’exposició recull treballs que reflexionen sobre l’entorn físic, geogràfic i humà on la càmera explora, a partir de plànols generals, i de vegades plànols detall, aquelles realitats que ens envolten; tant espais urbans com rurals, tant espais interiors i tancats com espais oberts. Mostrant les connexions entre els espais i els que els habiten, les persones i els objectes.

Panorama presents a selection of videos that have been programmed or produced by the centers of Xarxa de Centres I Espais d’Arts Visuals de Catalunya since 2012. Eugeni Bonet és un dels referents teòrics inqüestionables en els àmbits del cinema, el vídeo i els mitjans digitals dins el context espanyol. Durant quaranta anys, els seus escrits han testimoniat l’evolució d’aquestes disciplines i han fixat genealogies, línies de treball i vincles entre generacions de creadors. Les seves programacions audiovisuals han introduït temàtiques i corrents poc coneguts. Óscar Muñoz’s works show the impossibility of reaching a permanent identity. Re/trato is a looping video that shows the artist’s hand relentlessly trying to draw his portrait. His brush draws on a slab with water heated by the sun, the features of a face that evaporates again and again, causing that the image fades without remission. As in the myth of Narcissus, the artist has been sentenced to reach an impossible mission. His identity is ephemeral, as it seems to be everything in life. Re/trato is part of the les obres d’art en museus arreu del món. En retrospectiva, hi ha senyals d’aquests visitants, de les seves experiències i sentiments. Spectaculum Spectatoris és l’arxiu de visitants de museus de Francesco Jodice, una enciclopèdia visual de gent que dóna vida al museus de tot el món. In 1734 the Capitoline Museums opened in Rome as the first art museum by today’s definition. Since then, hundreds of millions of visitors have admired the works of art in museums around the world. In retrospect, there are traces of these visitors, their experiences and feelings. Spectaculum Spectatoris is Francesco Jodice’s archive of today’s museum visitors, a visual encyclopedia of the people who give life to art in museums worldwide. The project is also the start of an ethnographic archive of this human landscape.

La peça es va representar a Barcelona al Convent de Sant Agustí el 26 de Febrer del 2003 dins el cicle Brossa viu, organitzat per

espanyola. Aquest fet és el fil conductor per desenvolupar un assaig audiovisual en el qual es qüestiona la realitat d’un succés, recreant una ficció dels fets i convidant a les persones implicades en la seva elaboració. La peça, realitzada a partir d’imatges d’arxiu, barreja documents de principis del segle XX, de la Guerra Civil espanyola, dels anys setanta a Nova York i de la dictadura xilena de Pinotxet. Celobert is a piece that starts from the mural painted by Joan Vila Puig at the Dome of the Chapel of Carmen at Caldes d’Estrac and its destruction in 1936 at the beginning of the

Spanish Civil War. This is the starting point for the developing of a visual essay in which the reality of an event is questioned through a fictional recreation of the events and in which people are invited to get involved in its production. The piece, made from archival footage, combines documentation from the early twentieth century, the Spanish Civil War, the 70’s in New York and Pinotxet’s Chilean dictatorship. A través del viatge temporal i geogràfic de dos amants, Mille Soleils planteja una reflexió personal sobre qüestions d’exili, diàleg intergeneracional i herència, tant personal com universal. Révolution Zendj relata la trobada entre una estudiant d’origen Palestí i un periodista algerià a Beirut. El tercer llargmetratge de Tariq Teguia aborda la possibilitat permanent de la revolució i del rebuig a l’opressió. A través de vuit seqüències gravades a Argel, Tessalònica, el desert iraquià, Beirut, Nova York, el campament de Chatila (Beirut) i Bagdad, l’obra propicia les cerques individuals dels protagonistes, enfrontant la memòria humana amb la Història. Révolution Zendj tells the story of the meeting between a student of Palestinian origin and an Algerian journalist in Beirut.

The third film of Tariq Tegua faces the possibility of permanent revolution and the opposition to oppression. Through eight sequences recorded in Algiers, Thessaloniki, the Iraqi desert, Beirut, New York, Camp Shatila (Beirut) and Baghdad, the film encourages the individual search of the main characters and it confronts the memory of human beings with history. Aquí l’art es presenta com un síndrome que condueix a pensar en la seva capacitat per provocar altres lectures de la realitat. Taking the attention deficit syndrome as a starting point, we present a selection of videos that are related to the capacity of transformation of the audience. The works selected are closely related to the situation that artists in modern cities experience and the disorders that knowing who is the audience of the video creations involve. Issues such as the audiences and its impact through the means of

Als 70s a Polònia, va tractar la confrontació amb la visió masculina i la creació de la identitat femenina. Les seves peces van ser rebudes com a pornografia i moltes de les seves exposicions van ser censurades. El seu art va esdevenir una eina política, un instrument per lluitar per la igualtat de drets. Natalia LL’s work has invited many feminist interpretations, which underlined the presence of the problems of sexuality and eroticism contradicting patriarchal structures. In the 1970s in Poland, she featured themes of confrontation with male viewer and issues of shaping female identity. Her works were received as pornography, with the artist’s exhibitions censored. Her art became a political tool, an instrument of fight for equal rights. Several spaces and associations of Raval and Poble Sec district. La següent proposta busca evidenciar i donar rellevància als creuaments i debats entre la producció artística, el registre, la visibilitat. Les investigacions portades a terme per Equipo Re es centren en reflexions entorn la producció d’arxiu i la creació d’accés a aquesta documentació. Entenent la problemàtica generada a l’hora de fer públic aquest material, reconeixem com primordial l’acte de mediació. Dins aquest marc, ens plantegem la circulació de les produccions artístiques i estètiques i el seu paper en l’elaboració de discursos i la construcció de la memòria i representació.En aquest programa audiovisual, es visionaran materials audiovisuals a diversos espais de El Raval i Poble Sec. EXPOSICIONS/exhibitions CA LA MARIA BARCELONA Disparition 29/05 – 07/06 17 – 20h Artistes/Artists: Ignasi Aballí Comissari/Curator: Cal Cego. Col·lecció d’Art Contemporani Disparition (Desaparició, 2002), està formada per una sèrie de cartells de pel•lícules que “il·lustren” films basats en guions cinematogràfics de l’escriptor francès Georges Perec que no es van realitzar. Com si de subtítols es tractés, el guió va apareixent a la part inferior de la pantalla, mentre que a la resta apareixen imatges extretes de la premsa i els media on s’han esborrat els rostres dels personatges. La peça reflexiona sobre el concepte de la desaparició i absència, ja que ha desaparegut tota referència a la imatge, alterant el sentit de la realitat. Disparition (Disappearance, 2002) consists of a series of film posters that “illustrate” films based on scripts by the French writer Georges Perec that never took place. As if it were subtitles, the script appears on the lower part of the screen, whilst on the rest we see images taken from the press and other media. The faces of the characters have been erased. The piece reflects on the concept of disappearance and “absence”. All references to the original image have vanished, altering the sense of reality. 32 www.timeout.cat

Theories and curatorial practices in the global art. The show reconsiders the idea of life trajectory, which is subjected to impositions and conventions, as well as unpredictable deviations and drifts. Thus, the missile path is a metaphor of an individual’s planned life trajectory, driven by social constraints and expectations. In the same way, the idea of a deflected missile, out of the control of the military device that has launched it, refers to a drifted life trajectory, as a result of the failure of a plan or of the rejection of an imposed condition. Escalera de Incendios El Petó, 2013 29/05 – 07/06 Artistes/Artists: Anna García L’obra d’Anna García gira entorn la identitat, realitzant retrats a partir de la quotidianitat. El vídeo presentat, realitzat en motiu d’una exposició entorn els “amors imaginaris”, es centra en un acte quotidià relacionat amb l’amor: el petó. Els protagonistes van ser convocats a través de les xarxes socials i email generant efecte cadena. D’aquesta manera, les “audiències en potència” passaven a ser part activa del treball, aconseguint apropar el vídeo art a un públic que, posteriorment i de manera inconscient, es convertiria

en “canal de distribució” de la peça. Anna Garcia’s work revolves around identity. She makes portraits from everyday life. The video was produced on the occasion of an exhibition about “imaginary love” and it focuses on an event related to everyday love: the kiss. The protagonists were “recruited” via social networks and email, generating a chain effect. Therefore, the “potential audience” happened to be an active part of the video. The video managed to bring art to the audience who spontaneously became part of the “distribution channel” of the piece.

The project Through the buildings deals with the concept of the photographic look. Through the windows of some buildings that are in a process of transformation, the artists uses the technique of the camera obscura to bring inside the building spaces a piece of the world what surrounds them. On the one hand, it will be screened the piece Degrisaverd, a project produced by the students of art photography of School of Arts and Design Serra i Abella. The students’ work was based on transforming some Barcelona‚Äôs public squares that do not work, specifically the “hard squares” type, in more rural spaces, from a metaphorical point of view. The piece criticizes some municipal decisions of the brand “Barcelona”. On the other hand, the space will also host the participating works of the 2nd Edition of Muestra de Videoarte Underground Bna.

La proposta de Carlota Fraga presenta obre que estableixen diàlegs amb l’espai que els acull. El col·lectiu DSK proposa la peça ICONOSCOPIA ≠ 9 CODA, un retrat metafòric de l’entreteniment visual pels espais de difusió i les xarxes socials confrontat amb el cine convencional. El públic, en harmonia amb l’espai, podrà apreciar la convivència dels antics canals de difusió amb als actuals. Yapci Ramos presenta La pared. Una manera d’identificar-se amb un lloc és definir un punt concret en un espai. La peça ens envolta en el record a través de la imatge i de la música.

The DSK collective (Belén Montero and Juan Lesta) present the piece ICONOSCOPIA ≠ 9 CODA, a metaphorical portrait of spaces for visual entertainment aimed to social media confronted with conventional cinema. The audience will be able to experience the coexistence between new and old distribution channels. Yapci Ramos presents La pared. One way to identify oneself with a place is to define a specific point in the space. The work immerses the spectator in its own memories by using footage and music.

Per facilitar un debat en profunditat, s’ha organitzat la Jornada en un laboratori d’idees o thinkthank que permeti cartografiar la diversitat de models existents, els seus pros i contres, així com les tendències d’organització emergents. A partir de l’experiència de cadascun dels convidats, es discutiran models de producció i programació en base a un conjunt de qüestions conduïdes per dos professionals experimentats: David Márquez i Pep Salazar. THE WORKSHOPS AT MINISCREEN ARE ALL ESPECIALLY DESIGNED FOR CHILDREN AND AIM TO ENHANCE THEIR CREATIVITY AND HELP THEM THINK IN NEW WAYS ABOUT WHAT ART IS AND HOW IT IS MADE. MINISCREEN 2014 WILL FOCUS ON SENSORIAL EXPERIENCES AND HOW WE CAN USE ALL OUR SENSES TO EXPERIENCE ART. WE WILL ACTIVELY EXPLORE SOUND, VISION, TOUCH, SMELL AND TASTE DURING 2 DAYS OF LOOP, DEDICATED EXCLUSIVELY TOCHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES.

ACTIVITATS/ ACTIVITIES TIME LAPSE PAINTING (en col·laboració amb Lup Producciones i British Summer) Un taller orientat al vídeo art que utilitza la tècnica del time lapse painting. Es col·locarà un paper gran on els joves podran pintar i dissenyar de manera freestyle. A la vegada es prendran fotografies i en acabar el mural es col·locaran les imatges en un timeline creant un vídeo. TIME LAPSE PAINTING (in collaboration with Lup Producciones and British Summer) A workshop focused on video art where timelapse painting will be used. Young people will jointly be painting and designing on a large piece of paper to create a collective mural. Pictures of the process will be taken and the resulting images will be placed on a timeline to create a video.
