Get your photo taken for a photo project and tell us your favorite part about being a Southern Owl! 5:00pm-7:30pm Screening and Discussion of the Film “Higher Learning” • EN B121 “Higher Learning,” a film directed by John Singleton and released in 1994, deals with issues surrounding race, class, gender, sexuality, and nationality on a college campus. These concerns remain important to students today - especially in light of the shootings in California in May, new attention towards rape culture and athlete/sports culture, the evolving immigration debate, and the discourse around the crumbling of affirmative action programs. Join faculty of the Department of History as they host a screening and discussion addressing the contemporary relevance of this film and the ways in which courses in their department can help to place these matters impacting the lives of Southern students within their proper historical contexts. 6 WEEK OF WELCOME

When a boring and predictable man is diagnosed with cancer, he resolves to make big changes in his life, including taking custody of his angry and out-of-control teenage son. The two tear down his house, and end up rebuilding all those individuals around them. All involved are confronted with their true selves and have to determine whether or not to choose to redeem themselves through reinvention.

In this relaxed atmosphere, students are able to ask alumni questions about their work and enjoy light refreshments. Lake Compounce Trip friday, october 10 4:00-11:00pm Sibling Night friday, october 17 Siblings, cousins, young friends and guests are invited to SCSU to spend the night with their big brother or sister on campus! Sponsored by the Office of Residence Life, the night is filled with fun events, dinner and spending time together. Owl Family Day saturday, october 18 Southern Connecticut State University invites the parents and families of students to attend Owl Family Day.
