Established as a Professional school in 1939 it became a State School in 1964 with the Headmaster Leonardo Guerra following the Reformation, which established modern schools. The first site was located in Via del Santuario, now the building is located in Via Aosta in Massafra and its name comes after the famous professor of medicine Niccolò Andria ‌
Niccolò Andria was born in Massafra on September 10° 1747 from Giuseppe Gennaro Andria and Jacquelin, he was sent to Naples in 1766 to learn law. He was accepted in several private academies in which he pronounced in 1768 his famous "political speech on slavery" which proved so successful as to be published. In around 1770 he abandoned his law studies to devote himself entirely to physical sciences and especially medicine. He followed lessons in anatomy, chemistry, medicine practi ce .
Our Headmistress was born in Naples on December 27th 1959, the last of three brothers, her father was a railway worker and her mother is a housewife. After graduating at school she studied Biological Sciences at the Second University of Naples, where she graduated in 1984. Later she married a man from Taranto, the architect Aldo Galasso, and moved to Taranto. From the marriage three children were born . He began her teaching career in 1986 teaching Science Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Natural Sciences for three years in Scuola Media Michelangelo in Laterza, for 11 years in School "Castriota" in San Marzano di San Giuseppe and for 8 years in the Institute "L. Pirandello ” in Taranto. She has participated in many projects, especially in the field of environment, in close collaboration with the local section of "Legambiente”. In 2007 she won the competition for Headmasters since then she has served in the school "Niccolò Andria" in Massafra.
