Just My Opinion by
Rocky Gedrose
We live in a wonderful community and are lucky to have everything we have, but that is just my opinion. There are over 100 various clubs. We have facilities for many activities, dancing, swimming, mini-golf, bocce ball, horseshoes, basketball, racquetball, pickleball, tennis, golf, etc. We can enjoy music at The Views Restaurant two or three nights a week, plus karaoke on Sundays. There are dozens of fitness classes every week. If you can’t find something to do here, you just aren’t looking.
Is everything here in SCOV perfect? No, but I believe if you focus on the positives in life, you will be much happier. If you are living here, chances are you previously had some success or good fortune. You have earned your retirement. Go out and enjoy life as much as you can, while you can. Find your passion, something that excites you. We all need a reason to get out of bed in the morning. Seize the day.

Understanding Your HOA: A Corporation and the Duties of the Board of Directors
Welcome to the latest edition of our HOA magazine, Tipster. In this article, I aim to shed light on an essential aspect of our community, the Sun City Oro Valley Community Association (HOA). Many of us are aware that the HOA serves as a governing body, but have you ever wondered about its legal structure and the responsibilities of the Board of Directors? Join me as we delve into the intricacies of the HOA as a corporation and explore the vital duties entrusted to the Board.
The HOA as a Corporation: Before we dive into the Board's responsibilities, let's understand the legal framework that underpins our community association. An HOA is typically established as a nonprofit corporation, which means it is a legal entity separate from its individual members. This corporate structure enables the HOA to own and manage common areas, enforce rules and regulations, collect dues, and maintain the overall well-being of the community.
Board of Directors' Duties: The Board of Directors plays a crucial role in upholding the mission and responsibilities of the HOA. Comprised of seven elected community members, the Board acts as the primary decision-making body, ensuring the Association's smooth operation. Here are some key duties of the Board: Rule and policy creation, financial management, maintenance and repairs, enforcement of regulations, community engagement and communication, and long-term planning.
As residents, it is important to understand that our HOA functions as a corporation, and the Board of Directors serves as its governing body. By familiarizing ourselves with the Board's duties, we can appreciate their vital role in ensuring the community's success and preserving our property values. Open communication and active engagement with the Board foster a sense of collective responsibility and contribute to a thriving neighborhood we can all be proud of. Let us work hand in hand to create a vibrant and harmonious community for years to come.
