Inflammation: What You Need to Know

There are two forms of inflammation

Acute Inflammation

Getting to the Heart of Homocysteine

Homocysteine is an amino acid that helps create proteins and is naturally produced in our bodies. We require homocysteine and must maintain the correct levels. High levels of homocysteine may make your blood clot more easily than it should, increasing the risk of blood vessel blockages, which then lead to other health risks. High homocysteine levels in the blood can also damage the lining of the arteries, which can lead to a stroke, heart attack or pulmonary embolism.1 Homocysteine is normally changed into other amino acids for use by the body. What’s the story behind B12 and Alfred Libby?

Nitric Oxide, the Miracle Molecule

What you need to know

When you hear “nitric oxide,” you might think of nitrous oxide, better known as laughing gas. While you might appreciate nitrous oxide gas at the dentist’s office, nitric oxide is quite different. Heart Disease on the Rise Around the World

According to the World Heart Federation, deaths due to cardiovascular disease have risen 60% across the globe over the last 30 years. 2 The World Health Organization estimates that 1.28 billion adults over age 30 have hypertension , or high blood pressure, with only 21% having it under control.3
