Dear Partners and Friends, The beautiful summer of 2007 provided us with several opportunities to share the gospel of Jesus Christ locally and around the world. Many Chicago area children received free haircuts and designer book bags loaded with free school supplies during our outdoor Summer Praise and Worship Festival in August. We had such a powerful Champions of Destiny Conference this summer in Kenya. This year our travels took us through the beautiful country of Amsterdam. We are excited to share details of that awesome conference with you that featured the ordination of fifty In Covenant Ministries Fellowship pastors and the start of our Leadership Development Institute. The Jean O. Williams Scholarship Foundation has again awarded funds to assist several of our college students who continue their pursuit of degrees. Our “Youth Impacting Youth” 2007 Conference was an explosive weekend in September. The young people are really encouraged to serve in the church and impact their world of influence in school and their neighborhood. Enjoy this edition. These ministry highlights are just some of the ways God is transforming lives for His Kingdom. Don’t forget to sow a seed and expect your HARVEST in the Year of Glory. Advancing the Kingdom, Drs. Curt & Linda Stennis

“In a race, everyone runs but only one person gets first prize. So run your race to win. To win the contest you must deny yourself many things that would keep you from doing your best. An athlete goes to all this trouble just to win a blue ribbon or a silver cup, but we do it for a heavenly reward that never disappears. So I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step. I fight to win. I’m not just shadow-boxing or playing around. Like an athlete I punish my body, treating it roughly, training it to do what it should, not what it wants to do. Otherwise, I fear that after enlisting others for the race, I myself might be declared unfit and ordered to stand aside.” I Corinthians 9:24 (Living Bible)

Everything in the Word of God points to winning in life. We all experience relentless commercials and advertisements that promote and sell products they claim will help you improve your lifestyle and win. Being in position with a purpose to win is what living is all about. Everyone wants to be successful. Life in Jesus Christ is about winning. Whether we believe it or not we are in a race. The Apostle Paul gave instructions to “run your race to win.” He also said “I run straight to the goal with purpose in every step, I fight to win. Like an athlete I punish my body, treating it roughly, training it.” Our Heavenly Father teaches His children spiritual reality and principles through the knowledge and appreciation of natural principles. We are given the example of a natural athlete. Anyone who has ever played sports or competed in certain activities knows the importance of training. All of our children have competed in several sports at one time or another. Two of our sons, Matthew and Mark have played several sports including high school and NCAA college basketball. As parents, and former athletes ourselves, we have watched them endure several months of training before they ever put on a uniform and played a game. Hours of exercise and intense training during the season and after the season are required of all athletes. This training produces the endurance and discipline needed during the competition. It has been said that champions are produced in training and practice before they are crowned victorious in competition. Owners of professional teams spend millions of dollars in hopes of producing a Page 6—The Set Times

successful crown or trophy and all the royalties, recognition and endorsements that follow. They build the best facilities and provide the best equipment – all with one goal and purpose in mind – to win. They even hire the best trainers, conditioning coaches and nutritionists to help prepare the bodies of the athletes to compete and win. Our son Matthew is now a strength and conditioning coach for the Chicago White Sox minor league affiliate in Bristol, Virginia. Their race to win begins early each morning with running, exercising, weight training and more. The athletes push and punish their physical bodies to establish endurance for future contests. Matthew is also responsible for giving instructions on the importance of eating a balanced nutritional meal. It is pointless to enter any race out of shape, overweight and not prepared. This spells automatic defeat. However, a well conditioned, disciplined individual and team is prepared to win. Now, we can understand this natural application and apply it to our spiritual lives. In a spiritual race we can all finish first and win. Our heavenly Father also has a co nd it io ni ng a nd training program designed for His chosen children of destiny and purpose. He (God) has given us all things that pertain to life and Godliness. He has made a great investment in us – Jesus Christ His only Begotten Son. He is our coach! Just like the natural athlete, we too have a daily regimen that often begins early with prayer and supplication. Jesus Christ has instructed by example that men ought always to pray and not faint. Prayer accompanied with fasting allows us to rid

ourselves of that which hinders our spiritual man from being prepared to run this race and win. The Apostle Paul said in I Corinthians 9:25 “To win the contest you must deny yourself many things that would keep you from doing your best.” Our training includes important disciplines such as searching the scriptures (John 5:39), walking in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16), fighting the good fight of faith (I Timothy 6:12) to name a few. In 2 Timothy 2:5 (KJV) the Apostle Paul encouraged young Timothy saying “And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.” The word ―strive‖ comes from the Greek word “athlesis” which describes one involved in an athletic competition. This kind of athlete was willing to undergo any kind of hardship, training or practice in order to reach his goal of becoming the best.

To be victorious in a game or battle. Isn’t it great to know we can all finish first? We can put forth our best effort and succeed. We can overcome our adversary the devil and become victorious. If you have never won a medal or trophy in a natural competition before, don’t feel bad. Keep your eyes on the prize. Heaven holds a great reward for you. RUN YOUR RACE TO WIN!

We are training just like athletes to walk in the Spirit. This requires practice, practice, practice. In Hebrews 12:1 (KJV) we are given some additional instructions: “Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” Our great cloud of witnesses from the original Greek translation refers to the highest tier of seats in a bleacher or stadium. They were referred to as the clouds because they were so high up in the air. As you run your race, look up in the bleachers of Heaven and you will see there are those who endured that are cheering you on to victory. Our spiritual training has one purpose. It is designed to cause us to win. We are in this race to win! To win means: To finish first To succeed by effort

A PRAYER FOR VICTORY Heavenly Father, We ask you to strengthen us as we continue to run the race set before us. Whatever the future holds give us grace, mercy and favor to be effective in all you have called us to be and to perform. In the Name of Jesus Christ our King, Amen

During the week of August 12th Drs. Curt and Linda Stennis and members of In Covenant Ministries Fellowship (ICMF) traveled to Busia, Kenya for this annual conference. This year our itinerary included Nairobi and Amsterdam. Drs. Stennis delivered the opening conference sermon on Wednesday August 15th at the Christian Discipleship Center. ICMF board member and East Africa Coordinator, Bishop George Odhiambo was the conference host. The Christian Discipleship Center edifice is a massive four story multi-purpose facility in Busia. The main auditorium was recently remodeled with beautiful pink walls and marble floors in honor of Dr. Linda. There were delegates participating from throughout Africa, the United Kingdom and around the world. As each country’s national anthem was played, the delegates stood proudly as recognition was given to their flag. Page 8—The Set Times

This display of unity and patriotism took place in the opening and closing services. The In Covenant Ministries Fellowship team included Drs. Curt and Linda Stennis, Pastor Calvin Hogan, Deacon Sherman Taylor, Missionary Kim Franklin and Pastor Jose and Evelyn Rivera of Chicago. The glory of the Lord was present with miracles and manifestations occurring daily. The anointing increased in each service creating an atmosphere of excitement. Many of the registered delegates lodged in the fourth floor dormitory of the facility as well as in hotels throughout the city. Three meals a day were provided for all that stayed. The early morning glory prayer at 6:00 a.m. ushered in the awesome presence of God. The singing and dancing during the praise and worship resonated throughout the city of Busia.

The ICMF Team conducted workshops each day ministering to Pastors, their wives, teens, widows, single men and women, and children. Drs. Stennis launched the Leadership Development Institute modules which provided special sessions for those in ministry and business. On Saturday Drs. Curt and Linda Stennis commissioned and ordained 50 pastors and their wives for the work of the ministry. They also consecrated the following pastors into leadership positions for In Covenant Ministries Fellowship East Africa Chapter: Bishop George Odhiambo (Busia, Kenya) East Africa Coordinator Pastor Tom Godwin (Kapchora, Uganda) Regional Coordinator Pastor Joshua Maswi (Tarime, Tanzania) Regional Coordinator Pastor Emmanuel Waako (Kampala, Uganda) Regional Coordinator Pastor Aaron Maingi (Mombasa, Kenya) Regional Coordinator Pastor Francis Mutabazi (Kigali, Rwanda) Regional Coordinator Drs. Curt and Linda preached the Sunday morning service and provided Holy Communion to thousands. In the closing evening service the ICMF team anointed everyone in attendance. A great shout of victory followed as the people danced and sang praises throughout the auditorium, waving branches and chairs celebrating their jubilee!

This is part one of a two part series about consumer insurance benefits. This installment discusses homeowners’ insurance. Insurance is one of the ways that individuals and families can manage the risk of a financial loss. By obtaining insurance coverage, the financial consequence due to loss or damage to property and/or bodily injury can be transferred from the person insured to the insurance company. We agree to pay the insurer a certain amount (premium), so that if we are involved in an accident that causes damage and/or bodily injury, most of the cost to repair, replace and/or pay for the damages will be paid by the insurer. There are other methods that are used to help protect against the consequences of a significant financial loss. These are listed at the end of this article, but the purchase of insurance is by far the most common. The following are answers to some common questions regarding personal insurance. Page 16—The Set Times

What Are The Benefits of Purchasing A Homeowners Policy? A homeowners policy is one of the broadest and most flexible insurance policies available. It contains coverage for both property (losses to the house and the contents of the house) and personal liability (claims for monetary damages because of bodily injury to another, or another’s property). The homeowner’s policy applies to the house itself, and any structures attached to it, such as a garage, or deck, and any unattached structures such as a swimming pool, or unattached garage. It also provides coverage for the homeowner’s personal property while it is anywhere in the world. For example, luggage, skis, and furniture while not in your home would be covered. This policy can also be used to cover personal property that is owned by someone else while it is being borrowed and used by the homeowner, or if it is on the homeowner’s residence at the time of loss or damage. The homeowners policy also provides coverage when your dwelling is damaged to such an extent that it is no longer safe, sanitary, or secure to occupy

because of a loss that is covered under the policy. One very important item to note when placing or updating coverage on your home is that some types of personal property, such as money, manuscripts, airline tickets, watercraft, personal records, and theft of jewelry and furs have a reduced limit of liability coverage. In order for these types of items to be fully covered against a loss, they should be specifically identified and placed on the policy for an established value. In regards to personal liability the homeowners policy also provides coverage if a claim is brought against an insured because of bodily injury or property damage that is caused by the insured. The insured in this instance, is the name of the policyholder, the policyholder’s spouse, if a resident of the same household, residents of the household who are relatives of the policyholder or spouse, residents of the household who are under the age of twenty-one and in the care of the policyholder. The limit for personal liability is generally set around $100,000 per occurrence. This limit can be increased for an additional premium. This is a very broad overview of coverage provided by the homeowner’s policy. It is very important to review your homeowner’s policy including the exclusions, and definition parts of the policy to determine exactly what kind of losses are covered so that you can determine if additional coverage is needed. Many variations, additional coverage, and coverage limits can be added and/or purchased in addition to a homeowner’s policy to suit an insured’s specific needs. The insured should discuss all of their concerns and needs with an insurance agent to make sure that they have the best possible coverage for their particular situation. Some typical common causes of loss that are covered under a standard homeowner’s policy are Fire or Lighting; Windstorm or Hail; Explosion; Riot or Civil Commotion; Aircraft; Vehicles; Smoke; Vandalism; Theft (applies to specific items only); Weight of Ice, Snow, or Sleet (applies to specific items only); Accidental Discharge or Overflow of Water or Steam; Freezing.

What is the difference between Replacement Cost and Actual Cash Value on a Homeowners Policy? These terms describe how the value of the items that are damaged in a loss will be determined. Personal Property (contents of the house) is typically valued using the lesser amount of Actual Cash Value (the cost to replace the item less its depreciation) or the Cost to Repair or Replace the item. The homeowner can however, have the policy revised (endorsed) to have the items valued using Replacement Cost. In regards to the house/dwelling, losses are valued/settled based upon the limit that is shown on the policy. If the policy limit is 80% or more of the replacement cost of your dwelling, the insurer will pay for the loss at replacement cost up to the limit of the policy. If the policy limit is set below 80% of the replacement cost of the dwelling, the insurer will pay the greater of the Actual Cash Value, or the proportion of the Cost to Repair or replace the damage. That limit of the policy bears to 80% of the replacement cost of the house. This can be a little confusing, so the following formula might make this easier to understand. Limit of Insurance on the Policy X Replacement Cost of the Loss = Loss Payment 80% X Replacement Cost of Home So, if the policyholder wants losses to be valued using Replacement Cost, he/she should make sure that the limit of the policy is at least 80% of the current cost to replace their home. This method of valuing a loss can also be added to the policy if it does not currently apply.

“Braggin Rights” goes to Youngbloodz in 56-50 win over Men of Valor. This year’s charity basketball game was held at Fosco Park in Chicago on Saturday August 4, 2007. The Men of Valor came into the contest looking to make it two in a row while the Youngbloodz sought to redeem themselves from last year’s close defeat. The Youngbloodz came into this contest knowing they would have to rely on others to make up for the lost of scoring provided by Matt Stennis’ departure to the Chicago White Sox farm affiliate in Bristol Virginia. The game began with prayer at half court by Dr. Stennis followed by a shout from family and friends who came to cheer their husbands and sons. The first quarter began slowly with Men

of Valor leading the way with strong defensive effort from 6’7‖ Karl Davis, 6’2‖ Joshua Collier, and point guard Quincy Green. Solid all around play from Pierre Blandin, Sherman Taylor, Kelvin Thurmond, and Dan Felix gave the men a 26-19 lead at the half. The pace accelerated in the third quarter as Dr. Linda (wearing Matthew’s 2006 Terminator jersey) began to coach and encourage the young men. A Mark Stennis (Concordia University-Chicago) three point basket along with two dunks by Tracy Winston (Bakersfield College/California) gave the Youngbloodz a 45-44 lead. The entire third and fourth quarters were more intense and the lead changed several times. Fred and Chris Caldwell and Gavin Brown (Chicago Hope High School) displayed great hustle among the taller men. A rebound basket by Joshua Collier gave the men a 50-49 lead with one minute remaining, but Tracy Winston sealed the victory with a steal and four free throws down the stretch for the win. Tracy Winston (voted 2007 most valuable player) led all scorers with 20 points. He was supported by Mark Stennis’ 14 points. Karl Davis led Men of Valor in scoring with 14 points. Other contributors to the Youngbloodz victory were Antione Seales and Victor and Vincent Thompson. All proceeds from ticket sales and concessions including a matching gift from Men’s Coordinator Sherman Taylor and Family benefit the Jean O. Williams Scholarship Foundation.

Have you ever asked yourself what do I need to do to live in good health? How can I prevent illness, fatigue, aches and pain no matter what age I am? The steps to a healthier lifestyle are in preventive medicine. Before there is a need to take medications or to be hospitalized for a chronic condition, there are a few steps that can be taken to ensure a healthier you.

By Adrienne Green and Adrianne Granger

Healthy Diet For all the excitement about ―wonder foods‖ such a blueberries, broccoli and almonds, the comforting truth is that all foods have nutrients (except sugar, which have only calories). Depending on which nutrients they contain and how much, all foods have some health benefits. However, this does not mean that you can eat whatever you want and be healthy. Eating too much of certain types of foods and not enough of others may lead to such diet related illnesses as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and cancer. So what is the ideal health promoting diet? Healthy eating comes down to just a few basic principles. Follow them and you do not need to count calories or carbohydrates or substitute protein shakes for meals. Here is what you need to know: Less is enough. As you get older, you simply cannot eat as much as you once did without gaining weight. As we age your basal m etab olism —the energy cost of heartbeats, breathing and other bodily function at rest, declines, as do the number of calories expanded during physical activity. Before you get frustrated about the idea of cutting back on calories, keep in mind we are talking about a moderate decrease, not starvation. It is important not to cut back too much. Starvation is clearly unhealthy. A decrease of 20 to 40 percent of fewer calories is ideal. You have heard for years that it is important to include plant foods in your diet. Research studies show that much of the nutrients that we need come from fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and

seeds. Plant foods contain thousands of nutrients and antioxidants, and eating a variety of them is the only sure way of getting the nutrients you need for health and disease prevention. If fresh fruits and vegetables are unavailable or are too expensive, get frozen ones - they are nutritious, since they are picked and flashfrozen at harvest, locking in their nutrients. Junk foods are heavily processed foods such as soft drinks, candy, chips, cookies and cakes. If you eat only junk food, you will be taking in lots of calories but few, if any nutrients. You can get away with it when you are younger, but as you age, this shortage of nutrients can be detrimental to your health. These foods increase the risk of physical and mental disorders and weaken the immune system, making you susceptible to infections. In order to lose weight, avoid these fattening and empty calories. Instead, chose foods that are as ―natural‖ as possible. To ensure that your diet is well balanced, make sure you have fresh produce, dairy products, meats, fish, eggs, and grains. Supplements It is not always recommended that younger people take vitamin supplements but everyone over the age of 40 should consider taking a daily multivitamin. This is because the ability to digest, absorb, and metabolize nutrients declines with age. Specifically, you will most likely be deficient in vitamin B12, D, and calcium. Vitamin B12 is needed for making red blood cells and for maintaining a healthy nervous system. When there is a deficiency of this vitamin, it is characterized by weakness, fatigue, and can lead to cognitive

impairment in the elderly. B12 is found in fish, meat, poultry, eggs, milk, cheese and yogurt. Vitamin D is required for calcium absorption and for bone and muscle strength. Calcium is also need for bone health and may also protect against high blood pressure.

is important to set a goal and make the first step to a healthier you.

Water Intake

Walking is a great form of exercise. After seeing your doctor, consider walking 30 minutes for 3 days a week and build your time up for more intense walking over time. Other sports activities can be added according to what you like to do. O nce you have committed to make this lifestyle change, do not worry about getting off track. If this happens, start again. Remember you are making lifestyle changes and it is a long-term process.

Water is heavily involved in every major bodily function including, but not limited to temperature control, digestion, and waste and toxin removal. Water loss occurs with many normal bodily functions such as breathing, sweating and more. With increased water loss, dehydration can occur. The symptoms of mild dehydration are dry mouth and thirst, fortunately this leads us to drink more fluids. During long periods of physical work and exercise, drink often, even when you do not feel thirsty. An acceptable method of monitoring fluid intake is to drink enough fluids to produce a lot of pale yellow urine. This means we should consume at least eight, 8 ounce glasses of water a day, being cautious if you have a medical condition such as renal failure or congestive heart disease that requires careful monitoring of fluid intake. Be sure to credit yourself for the water that is contained in the foods that you eat. A lot of water is contributed through the diet if you consume high amounts of fruits and vegetables. Physical Activity Physical activity is good for your heart and blood vessels and it helps you to control your weight. It makes you feel and look better. You do not have to run a marathon or be an athlete to benefit from exercise. It Page 24—The Set Times

Always consult with a physician before beginning any new exercise program. This is especially true if you have a history of heart disease, or have had a heart attack, are taking high blood pressure medication or have had a stroke.

Sleep is necessary to feel refreshed and now we know that sleep impacts the way the body functions. Sleeping poorly can affect how often you get sick, your weight, and for children, how well they grow. Incorporate a good night sleep in your goal to a healthy lifestyle.

In Conclusion We are mind, body, and spirit. Our mind and spirit need as much care as our bodies. Assess your emotional and spiritual wellbeing and make a change if there is stress or depression in your life. Set goals for yourself and above all feed your spirit with the Word of God. As you incorporate prayer and meditation in you life you can command that your body comes subject to God’s Word. Beloved, I wish above all things that you prosper and be in good health as your soul prospers (3 John 2).

Sometimes we forget how faithful our God is. Drs. Curtis and Linda Stennis remind us in this book that the One who has made the promises in the Bible keeps His Word. If He said He will do it, He will do it. All we have to do is believe. And they go on to share a wonderful testimony from their own experience of the Faithfulness of God. I believe this book will be a great faith encouragement to everyone who reads it. Dr. Richard Roberts, President, Oral Roberts Ministries It is overwhelmingly evident, not only by their lifestyle but by their written style, Drs. Curtis and Linda Stennis know the PROMISE KEEPER. BUT GOD…YOU PROMISED! is a “Promise-full,” Powerful Book. I consider this book a must– read for all who sincerely want to arrive in the PROMISELAND, N.O.W. Apostle Dr. Jo Ann Long New Covenant Life Church, This book will enlighten you spiritually to recognize and realize that God is everywhere as He fills His Creation. He has given unto us great and precious promises by which we can live the abundant life. One can see how God has blessed Drs. Curtis and Linda Stennis with the God kind of faith, thereby enabling them to live the abundant life. We can be thankful because…GOD ALWAYS KEEPS HIS PROMISES! Dr. Mildred C. “Now the birth of Jesus was as follows. When His mother Mary had been betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man, and not wanting to disgrace her, desired to put her away secretly. But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary your wife; for that which has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. “And she will bear a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for it is He who will save His people from their sins.” “Now all this took place that what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet might be fulfilled saying, “Behold The Virgin shall be with Child, and shall Bear a Son, and They Shall Call His Name Immanuel,” which translated means, GOD WITH US.” “And Joseph arose from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him and took her as his wife and kept her virgin until she gave birth to a son; and he called his name JESUS.” Matthew 1:18-25 All of us at Salvation and Deliverance Ministries and In Covenant Ministries Fellowship would like to extend our very best prayers and thoughts for a Christmas full of God’s peace and a New Year of blessings.
