Flipside of Winning

The greatest incentive in joining sports events is not always winning the grandest prize of all-the glittering gold. Sometimes, the lessons learned through the pain of defeat far outweigh the exhilaration of claiming the top spot.

In sports, there can only be one winner As such, many athletes have to contend with the idea of having to deal with defeat.

However, athletes who lick their wounds and, in the process, learn from their mistakes are the ones who make the greatest and more often, the most profound change in their chosen sports event in particular and life in general

Although athletes are always expected to win, or at the very least, to give their best, there is no disgrace in being at the losing end of the battle So long as every ounce of effort has been exhausted, for as long as everything possible has been done, then there is absolutely

no shame in defeat.

The trick is to rise up every time and not be discouraged nor give up Failure does not have to be a stumbling block but rather, should serve as a motivation to strive more, work harder and dream bigger

Drawbacks should never hamper the desire to go on, move forward and to push the perceived limitations If being triumphant boosts confidence, disasters, on the other hand, strengthen fortitude

Losing is an integral part of the learning curve It serves as a catalyst for change- an indication for introspection and re-evaluation of the self

In sports, what matters most is how one plays the game, not what he attains but what he becomes because of it.

Losing and winning are simply two sides of the same coin

One side cannot increase nor diminish the value of the coin

Athletes from the different municipalities of Nueva Vizcaya converge in the province’s capital town of Bayombong to once again vie for the coveted gold in this year ’ s NVPAA Meet

These athletes have endured hours of back-breaking training under the heat of the sun for them to compete in the name of their municipal colors They have sacrificed their sweat, tears and even blood for the privilege of representing their municipality

It is truly an amazing sight to behold when these athletes are at the starting gate of their chosen sports event. The anticipation and the pride shimmer through their eyes, keen to show that they are at their top form.

“ “
It matters not whether they win or lose...

With their hearts beating fast, fueled by the roaring crowd and their desire to clinch the pinnacle of success, the eager athletes labor to prove that they are the sports heroes their hometowns have grown

The long hours they have spent practicing and training trickle down to a single moment, a moment where they are given the chance to rise above their rivals and competitors

It is inevitably fitting that these student-athletes be celebrated and their efforts be acknowledged It is never a walk in the park to strike a balance between academic pursuit and sports excellence

In the long run, it matters not whether they win or lose. Their participation alone in this memorable event makes everyone proud to be called the new breed of Novo Vizcayano – fit, alive, and productive community members Stand tall dear Student-Athletes!

It is never too late to be counted!
