A Rock-Ola jukebox is among the appraisals featured in the second Rapid City show.
SD Shines on Antiques Roadshow Antiques Roadshow – Rapid City SDPB1: Mondays, 7pm (6 MT) & 9pm (8 MT) April 29, May 6 Sundays, 5pm (4 MT) April 28, May 5, May 12 pbs.org/roadshow sdpb.org/roadshow
Antiques Roadshow’s Rapid City programs continue in May with some amazing treasures and some surprises in the appraisals. The first of the three Rapid City shows premiered on April 22, and Rapid City Hours 2 & 3 will air at 7pm (6 MT) and 9pm (8 MT) on Mondays, April 29 and May 6. You can catch encores on Sundays at 5pm (4 MT) on April 28 (Hour 1), May 5 and May12. The appraisals for the three Rapid City shows were recorded last July 14 in the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center – the program’s first-ever appraisal event in South Dakota. Each year, the Antiques Roadshow Summer Tour heads for several cities to uncover America’s hidden treasures in one-day appraisal events. Specialists from the country’s leading auction houses and independent dealers from across the nation – all unpaid volunteers – travel to these events, offering free appraisals of antiques and collectibles. Antiques Roadshow cameras watch as owners recount tales of family heirlooms, yard sale bargains and longneglected items salvaged from attics and basements. Then, the experts reveal the fascinating truths about these finds. Antiques Roadshow is sponsored by Liberty Mutual Insurance and Subaru. Additional funding is provided by public television viewers. Antiques Roadshow is produced for PBS by WGBH Boston. Executive producer is Marsha Bemko. Several local sponsors helped make SDPB’s participation in the Rapid City appraisal event possible. They include Black Hills Community Bank, Deadwood History, Inc. (Adams Museum & House, Days of ‘76 Museum and the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center), and Reptile Gardens.

It’s Wait Wait ... Don’t Tell Me! like many of you have never seen it before! Because, well, normally you can’t see it – it’s a radio show. Every week, Wait Wait ... Don’t Tell Me! takes potshots at some of the absurdities in the week’s news. It’s laugh-out-loud radio. Now, you have a chance to see it live on Thursday, May 2, at 7pm at two Sioux Falls theaters. The show airs live at Cinemark Century Stadium 14 (just off the 26th Street exit of I-29), and at Cinemark Century East at Dawley Farm (off of Rushmore Drive/ Highway 11, just south of East 10th Street). Expect the weird, some wild commentary and lots of laughs. Wait, Wait presented a live show in Sioux Falls in 2008, and, as those who were lucky enough to attend know, it was a blast. For the cinema event, Host Peter Sagal and official judge and scorekeeper Carl Kasell will be joined by panelists Paula Poundstone, Mo Rocca and Tom Bodett to play the quiz in front of a live audience.
