Dakota Sky Presents Top Classical Talents
Highlights of the 2012 Dakota Sky International Piano Festival aired on SDPB Television in October thanks to the generosity of Dakota Sky and its major funders. Major Funding for the Dakota Sky International Piano Festival and two one-hour programs on SDPB Television comes from Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center, the Washington Pavilion of Arts & Science, the Friends of SDPB, First Bank & Trust, First Premier Bank/Premier Bankcard, Northwestern Energy, First National Bank Sioux Falls, the South Dakota Arts Council, South Dakota Humanities Council and many other donors and friends. The annual event features top up-andcoming talents in the classical music world. You can tune into some of the great performances from 2012 and learn more at
www.dakotasky.org. The Dakota Sky International Piano Festival brings worldclass young artists to Sioux Falls during a two-week summer music event. The organization is dedicated to the musical arts, offering solo and chamber music recitals, master classes for piano students, lectures on the world of music, and educational opportunities for children. The festival was founded by internationally acclaimed pianist Paul Tuntland Sanchez, a native of South Dakota. South Dakota performance, history, beauty, people and places are at the heart of great programming at SDPB. As a Program Funder, you can be a part of upcoming projects. To become a Program Funder or to find out more about upcoming SDPB projects, contact Ryan Howlett at 800-456-0556.
SDPB Support Part of Bank’s Community Involvement Jack Lynass, President CEO of Black Hills Community Bank believes in making a difference in the community we live in. From the outset, “we have regarded community involvement as one of our highest priorities. With our thorough understanding of local people, local businesses and the local economy, the bank is able to offer a community banking experience that simply cannot be matched.” Black Hills Community Bank helped make SDPB’s involvement in the Antiques Roadshow visit this summer possible. Major support for the visit came from the bank, Reptile Gardens and Deadwood History, comprising Adams Museum & House, Days of ’76 Museum and the Homestake Adams Research and Cultural Center. Antiques Roadshow, one of the most popular programs on television, held its 20

first-ever appraisal event in South Dakota in July. The event, at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City, drew thousands of people, who brought their treasures to be appraised. The PBS television program, produced by WGBH Boston, will feature Rapid City and the area in three programs in 2013. For details of the visit, check SDPB.org/ Roadshow. Program funders support programs and outreach for a variety of SDPB projects. To support broadcasting that showcases South Dakota, call Ryan Howlett, Vice President of Development, at 800-456-0556.
