Get Socially Active – ReCycle Project
ReCycle is a fun free and friendly project for people in Lewes district funded by the National Lotteries Building Better Opportunities and the European Social Fund, to get more people cycling and more bikes back in use. This can have huge benefits in terms of the environment, health, wellbeing and community cohesion. More people on bikes and fewer in cars also improves quality of life for all. We aim to achieve these goals by getting unwanted bikes and teaching people how to restore them and then donate or sell them to local people to help them

get involved. This means less landfill, more space and happy, healthy cyclists. Families may have a shed full of rusting bikes and want to get out on family rides. We can repair those bikes and teach anyone over 16 how to maintain them in a roadworthy condition. Those wanting to start a career in bike repair or renovation can learn all the relevant skills, and work with our partners to gain vital experience and move on to jobs with our contacts in this sector. We can help out with free equipment to get people started, and for those eligible, a free bike. We particularly want to reach female participants to start women’s groups at the workshop and develop a safe space policy. Women are currently underrepresented in this area which is something we want to address. Please contact us if you would like to get involved.
