Golf
in the Lowcountry
Golf is a mainstay where we come from. In the Lowcountry, we love golf, we live for golf, we’ve seen other people play golf, and they are amateurs compared to us. We treat it the way people in Montana treat flyfishing, and the way Californians treat surfing. It is for all intents and purposes our “go-to” sport. Even if you don’t play yourself, you know someone who does regularly, whether it is a family member or a close friend, and our true golf season is here and we are all ready. April is a great time to hit the links in the Lowcountry. The flowers are blooming, the birds are singing, and the grass is at its greenest and most lush. The weather is warm and inviting and even though it rains a bit, that rain makes the grass that much richer. Even the PGA tour likes to stop in Beaufort County on Hilton Head Island for the RBC Heritage leg of its tour, this year from April 14th to April 20th. Golf is a big deal here and we take it very seriously. If you are in Beaufort County, you are not far from a golf course no matter where you are. Golf has been described as “A nice walk spoiled”. Spring is always a great time for a nice walk in the great outdoors in the Lowcountry.
