Spring

in the Lowcountry Spring is advancing, and winter will soon be but a mere memory. I am looking forward to getting out on the golf course, though winter in the Lowcountry isn’t always too rough for golf. Spring is just a more pleasant time to go. The Beaufort area’s climate is, more often than not, warm and inviting with the exception of a few cold days during the winter months. The welcoming warm weather of spring also brings many of the Lowcountry’s blooming flowers. Azaleas, honey-suckles and other flowers burst into a rainbow of color in the spring. Spring also brings back the opportunity to fish for Cobia for all you weekend fisherman. These fish have a maximum length of 78 inches and a maximum weight of 150 pounds and they are delicious. During the rest of the year, Cobia is usually found in the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean. In the spring, however (when the river water warms to around seventy degrees) the Cobia make their way to Port Royal Sound and the Broad River. The best signs of spring come from the birds. From Autumn’s October until Spring’s April is the best time to go bird watching. The Lowcountry hosts at least nine wildlife refuges and several state-owned sanctuaries, which are the best places to go when one wishes to bird watch in the Lowcountry. You can tell that spring is almost here when you wake up one morning to the sound of birds chirping everywhere during their migration back north. You may want to spy on Blue Herons, Pelicans, Storks and the endangered Bald Eagles. Enjoy the beautiful weather and the stunning sights and sounds of Beautiful Beaufort at this very special time of year.

Bridal Shower Planning Guide

Historically, brides have been showered with love and gifts on their bridal shower party. Although the maid of honor normally organizes the bridal shower, showers can be organized by anyone close to the bride. To be more politically correct, couples may decide to opt for a couple shower. It is the same concept as a bridal shower, but it is not exclusive to female friends and family. A couple shower enables friends and family to celebrate both bride and groom. Whether it’s a bridal shower or a couple shower, planning the event takes considerable effort. So, read on to learn some fun and helpful bridal shower planning tips. Traditionally planning and hosting the shower is the responsibility of the honor attendant or honor attendants unless she is a member of the bride’s immediate family. (Many etiquette guides frown on a family member hosting, because it looks like she’s trying to get gifts for the bride. Often the mother of the bride and/or the bride’s sister will still be involved, just not technically be the host. Others realize that in this modern world, a relative is sometimes the only appropriate host.) Choosing the right date for the bridal shower is of paramount importance. There is no rule about how much time before the wedding a shower needs to take place. It can take place several months or a couple of weeks prior the wedding day. Often, bridal showers are planned in the form of a surprise party. Regardless of the date of the shower, guest should be notified well in advance. Make sure that the date doesn’t conflict with holidays or other events that would prevent the guests from attending the party. A bridal shower doesn’t need to be an expensive party, but it certainly can be. Be sure that your budget is set early in the planning process. Once your budget has been determined, be sure the required funds are set aside. Don’t be a hero and ask for help. Just because you plan the shower, it doesn’t mean you have to pay for the whole thing. Unless you are independently wealthy, ask all the bridesmaids to help out.

The town takes pride in its unique natural environment and its accessibility to that environment through its network of walking trails, community beach, boardwalk, and observation tower. Since Columbus discovered America in 1492, seven flags have flown over what is now the Town of Port Royal.

Union Church The Union Church, also known as, “The Free Church” was the first church to be built in the historic town of Port Royal. The land was donated by David F. Appleton and in 1878 cost around $1000 to build. It is currently eligible for recognition in the National Register of Historic Places and is being renovated jointly by both the Town of Port Royal and the Historic Port Royal Foundation. These two groups plan to use the renovated building as a cultural and community center.

A bridal shower can be a discreet get together or an extravagant party with some great bridal shower favors. The sky is the limit, and, of course, your budget. If you organize the party, you should know enough about the bride to determine what kind of shower she would enjoy the most. Would she enjoy a relaxed shower at somebody’s house, or is she expecting a more formal party in a hotel ballroom? Does she have specific hobbies or interests that would provide an interesting theme for the party? You should only invite guests to the bridal shower who will also be invited to the wedding. If you are unsure about who should be on the guest list, feel free to ask the bride to help out. If you are organizing a surprise shower, ask the bride’s mother or someone who would know about the wedding reception guest list. It is very smart to include information about where guests can purchase presents in the shower invitations. The guests will appreciate your guidance. After all, it makes it easier for them purchase the proper gifts. The bridal shower invitations can be traditional cards or even e-cards. Most people have an e-mail address, so an electronic invitation might be a feasible option for your shower. E-cards are not only freely offered on many Web sites, but they are also fast. You send them our one-minute and they are delivered the next. If you have a larger budget, you might be interested in sending out personalized chocolate bars as bridal shower invitations. Regardless of what form of invitations you decide to use, make sure they are sent out well in advance. The bridal shower invitations should be sent out about 3 weeks prior to the bridal shower party. Food is an important aspect of the planning process, and it is very much influenced by where the bridal shower is held. If you’re planning an at-home bridal shower, you may prepare the food yourself or you have a catered party. If you’re having the shower in a restaurant or a hotel, make sure they prepare one of the bride’s favorite meals. Remember: Bridal showers are supposed to be fun, so don’t stress too much. After all, you are planning a party.

Boardwalk Observation Tower At Port Royal Sands Beach you will find a waterside boardwalk leading to an observation tower. This tower provides fantastic views of Port Royal, Parris Island and the surrounding area. For tourists, this is a must see, is free to access and open year-round.

Weddings & Flowers

Pick Your Perfect

Wedding Flowers Wedding flowers carry a wonderful energy with them and the choice of flowers for bouquets and buttonholes can be fun to linger over at length. Before making any final decisions, talk it over with your chosen wedding florist and bear in mind the following essential tips. Choose flowers in season Choose your flowers according to what is in season if you want to keep costs down. In spring for example there are lots of gorgeous blooms available other than roses. You get more flowers for your money when they come from local flower farms rather than being flown in from warmer climes or hot-housed out of season. Let your florist guide you Keep an open mind on the types of flowers you want until you’ve talked to a professional florist. If your wedding is in winter and you've set your heart on a flower that is only available in full summer, then it will be harder to pick another flower without it feeling like a compromise. Either that or you might feel tempted to shell out a fortune to have out of season flowers flown in from the other side of the world, blowing your budget before you’ve even got started. Check for allergies Remember the possibility of allergies before you pick your bouquet and buttonholes. Check if any of the bridal retinue is allergic to strongly scented flowers, this is commoner than you might think, and if so avoid

flowers like freesias, lilies, lilac and lily of the valley in your buttonholes and bouquets. Having the chief bridesmaid or best man sneezing throughout the ceremony is going to be distracting at the very least! Personalise your bouquet Add something personal to your wedding bouquet, to make it really special. This could mean adding a few flowers that have a special significance to you - perhaps the first bunch of flowers he ever bought you were tulips; or it could mean tying the bouquet with a special ribbon or lace from your mother’s wedding dress. Bring fabric swatches You will probably have already chosen your dress and bridesmaid dress by the time you are discussing wedding flowers with the florist. Bring along swatches of the fabrics, so that flowers can be chosen to tone with the dresses. You may be going for subtle pastels in your flowers or strong contrasting shades, but having the swatches there will make sure that you get the final effect just right. Check for weight If you are tempted to order a gorgeous cascading floral extravaganza to carry down the aisle, bear in mind how much it is likely to weigh. Ask your florist to give you an idea of weight by trying a similar sized bouquet. You might find that it will be too much of a burden to carry for any period of time however spectacular it looks. With all these things considered enjoy browsing through all the gorgeous flower options for your bouquet, whether you are going for traditional ethereal white blooms, or a hot and passionate mix of colours in your wedding flowers.
