in demand for trenchless technology equipment in the past ten years. In response to this, the Company’s trenchless equipment has evolved into a division in its own right, with pipe bursting, winches and impact moles available. The trenchless division is perfect for large utility companies who have seen increased demand for emergency repairs and renewal of existing pipe systems. Along with providing the solutions to these requirements, Site Equipment offers technical advice as well as site visits, and all services come with competitive pricing.

TRENCHLESS TECHNOLOGY The Company’s division comprises of the PB30 pipe buster cable system, 400G/800G pipe burster, Grundowinch 3T/10T and the Grundomat impact mole.

An easy and safe way of undertaking cable pulling, the Grundowinch 3T/10T is compact, towable and comes complete with a two-metre draft arm that is suitable for deeper pits.

The pipe buster cable system is small and compacted, making it ideal for jobs that a small machine can only get to with a pulling force of 30T over a 50-metre pipe.

It allows the customer to keep control of the speed of the line and tonnage, making sure stretching of the pipe and cable does not happen.

Its small imprint means machine digging is not always required, and has the ability to burst all common pipe materials.

The final product of Site Equipment’s trenchless division is the impact mole which is the simplest way of getting a pipe or cable through good ground, or when it isn’t possible to open cut a trench.

With the 400G/800G pipe burster, complete control of the burst is given to customers thanks to the unique ladder rod safety system. All six main pieces of equipment used on a pipe burster - the rod, expander, towing head, rig, bursting unit and delta blade - are sent on a trailer with a choice of meterage each day.

With sizes from 45mm up to 180mm, it is an ideal solution that only requires two small pits, one entry and one exit.

Bursting rigs provided by Site Equipment are supplied with 100 metres of rods.

CASE STUDIES The trenchless technology solutions of Site Equipment have proved to be invaluable, with a whole host of projects benefiting. Johnson Trenchless Solutions is one of the many companies to use the products, with an 800G pipe burster supplied for a sewer upgrade scheme involving United Utilities. The first priority was to meet with the customer and visit the site in order to decide if the 800G was suitable. After that, the Company ensured that the team dealing with the burst was trained to the highest standards, and once the 800G burster was delivered to site, somebody from Site Equipment’s customer service team went to the site to ensure that when the rig was delivered, any questions about setting it up could be answered, along with any about the burster. Using the pipe burster product means that damaged pipe can be replaced without having to dig up a surface or highway. It saves on reinstatement, traffic management, labour and vehicle costs. The end result of this development was an extremely satisfied customer thanks to the quality of service provided by Site Equipment. It is a common theme with the work carried out by the Company; the service provided comes with a high level of liaising between client and Site Equipment, resulting in happy customers. This pattern continued on a project for Lewis Civil Engineering in Minehead where an 800G pipe burster was supplied for a sewer upgrade scheme for Wessex Water.

The total burst length of the pipe was 40 metres and Lewis Civils needed to burst an existing 250mm A/C pipe, replacing it with 250mm PE. Once again, of paramount importance was making sure the team in place carrying out the bursting was trained and competent to undertake this. Therefore, all certificates were checked, which were all in order. The 800G burster was delivered to Minehead as agreed and Site Equipment’s drivers provided necessary help with equipment queries where necessary. As is common practice for the Company, somebody from customer service went to the site when the rig was delivered to help where needed and the client was happy with the end product. Site Equipment’s expertise also saw a four-tonne Grundowinch supplied to secure a gas pipe renewal in Port Talbot on behalf of Amec. It was ascertained that the Grundowinch was suitable for the site that is partly in a carriageway, housing estate and pavement. With a total pull length of 86 metres, Amec needed renewal by way of slip-lining, and therefore an existing 92mm pipe was replaced with 62mm PE. Slip-lining helps to replace a damaged pipe with a new one that sees a smaller pipe pulled inside the damaged existing one. As with the pipe bursting, the benefits of this approach are obvious. Surfaces or highways do not need to be dug up which saves a great deal on re-instatement, traffic management, along with labour and vehicle costs. Site Equipment’s friendly team was again on hand to answer any questions when the winch was delivered in order to make sure the process was as smooth as possible. It resulted in a very happy client; which Site Equipment prides itself on.
