Swords Let Down By Greedy Off Licences A group of greedy and uncaring off licence owners have endangered the reputation and status of Swords by blatantly breaking the law. A damning TV programme has highlighted Swords as a town where underage teenagers can access alcohol with no trouble whatsoever. Last Thursday’s RTE Prime Time programme showed two teenagers, one a 16 year old boy, who was able to avail of a delivery service in four local off licences. The boy collected his order at the front door of his house and paid the bill, in each case, without being asked for identification. The off licences included in the programme were ones which provided a delivery service. There are a number of off licenses in the town which do not do deliveries and were not involved in the programme. The supermarkets in question were well known national brands which offer an online shopping facility. In all six cases, no problem was encountered by the boy. Huge efforts have been made recently to solve the scourge of underage drinking, with its associated antisocial behaviour, while all along this illegal trade has flourished.

By Patrick Finnegan & Leslie Murphy At a time when the profile of the North County and Swords, in particular, is on an upsurge, it is regrettable that this profile is now tarnished by self serving off licences who are prepared to blatantly break the law in order to pursue their own agendas. It is vital that adverse publicity, similar to that seen on nationwide television is not allowed to damage the great work currently underway in places like the Pavilions Shopping Centre. Collecting payment at doorsteps for such delivery services is against the law, insofar as it extends the licence beyond the door of the off licence. Money for such services must be paid at source which eliminates the danger of underage sales. This very disappointing finding has caused concern to parents as well. Local resident, Orla Smith, a parent of a 16 and a 12 year old told the County Leader, “ It’s very disheartening that you put all of your time and effort in to ensuring your children have the best. We seem to forget then alcohol is so readily available to them. This is taking away our authority and

An outraged Michael Kennedy TD, (FF), told the County Leader, “ Underage drinking is one of the single biggest problems in our society. Our CCTV system has given us and the Gardai very solid information about the perpetrators and know that one particular person was involved in both robberies. My concern is to educate the community that these things happen and people need to be aware of strangers. People should look out for each other and be extra diligent, particularly in times of recession and ensure that their property is secure, “ concluded Pastor Bankole.

By Patrick Finnegan A Church on Hannah’s Avenue at Blake’s Cross near Lusk was vandalised, not once, but twice in the same week recently. The Redeemed Christian Church, formerly the Educate Together School was targeted by vandals firstly on August 11th and then on August 14th last. The first attack took place when the alarm was mistakenly turned off and televisions were taken from the children’s classroom which is used for Sunday school. Two laptops, a recording machine, a keyboard and a guitar were also taken. A television in the main Church area was smashed to the ground. The cheeky thieves were not satisfied and decided to revisit the church three days later for further plunder. All remaining valuables have now been removed from the church. There is a congregation of 84 people drawn from Swords, Lusk, Balbriggan and surrounding areas. Pastor, Thywill Bankole, told the County Leader, “Some of the people panicked as a result of the burglaries and could not sleep for fear of the same thing happening to them.” He continued, “We need to work with

that St Colmcille’s parish, who own the site, intend to sell it to Aldi, subject to planning permission. “The well known site, which includes the listed red building on Seatown Road, has been earmarked as a suitable location for development. The listed building will be retained as a parish centre. Parking is likely to be a problem at first sight here,” said Kennedy. For more on this, see our next issue.

Coming from the Scottish highlands, they are, not surprisingly, very hardy and require little maintenance, being out for the entire winter. The idea of using cattle instead of horses is because they are less troublesome and pose less of a danger to people. Visser continued, “The idea of biodiversity is to establish an ecological network in the area, connecting rivers, lakes and other natural resources. Grazing cattle keep grass short, which in turn allows species like geese to graze and the process continues, where all creatures can flourish.”

Q.
We asked locals from the North County, “Should we trust our politicians?”
Bernadette Marks, Swords “There are obviously a few bad apples in the barrel and you can’t judge everybody on this basis and a lot of them work very hard”.
Dympna Gormley, Donabate “The majority of them yes, some of them are very helpful and you get the odd few who may not be. But I think they are trying to do their best for the country”.
Joan McGrath, Swords “No and I think we should get rid of the whole lot of them and get a whole new lot and wipe the board clean”.
Colm McGuinness, Rush “I don't think we should lose faith in them, there has been a lot of controversy in regard to expenses being paid so maybe there should be a control on there expenses.”
Jason McCormack, Swords “No, you’d have to be a little bit naive to trust them”.
Alan Byrne, Donabate “No, they are not thrustworthy, just look at the country it’s a joke, it’s going backwards and not creating any jobs and no enterprise at all”.
Miriam Casey, Swords “Definitely no, after all the lies they have told us. I’m very disappointed in them, and a lot of people feel the same way, so what I say is cop on, get your act together and give us a decent living in this country”.
Joe Commins, Skerries “Definitely not, especially at this moment in time, after everything that’s come to light recently.”
Dawn Sherlock, Swords “I think on a daily basis scandals are being revealed to the public so it’s very hard to trust them”.
Vincent Blake, Swords “Definitely not and at the best of times, keep an open mind. Normally we can’t paint them with the one brush, but we need to be very vigilant towards them after all the episodes in the past”.

Successful Camp For Portmarnock Scouts Portmarnock Scout Group had a very successful annual camp which took place in Petersburg Outdoor Education Centre, Clonbur, Co. Galway. The group consisted of 27 scouts and leaders, Tomas Bell, James O’Connor and Peter O’Kelly. Activities included walking, canoeing, abseiling, climbing, kayaking, assault course, wind surfing, dinghy sailing, mountain walks, raft building, orienteering and an assault course, which is on a little island in the lake and the fun starts with the scouts having to row out to it before
they begin their escapades there. Breakfast began at 8.30am after ‘rally’ and formal morning roster. Scouts did not have to cook each day as they were too busy with the various activities on offer, but a duty patrol set up tables and cleaned up afterwards. Five of the older group members, accompanied by senior scout Conor Dillon, participated in one of the requirements for the Bronze Gaisce Award. It would be a huge addition to our community. We want to have something that is going to be sustainable and that everybody can use. Enterprise Week Set To Boost Local Job Creation Fingal Enterprise Day, the hugely successful mentoring initiative for new and existing businesses, has developed into a week long programme. Normally a day long event, organisers had to extend the event to a full week for the first time, to accommodate the unprecedented level of requests for information and supports. It will included entrepreneurs, Bill Cullen, Sean Gallagher and Nicola Byrne, all ready to set to give free advice to new and existing businesses The enterprise initiative will run from Monday, September 27th to Friday, October 1st, with seminars, workshops
and clinics throughout the county. The week boasts an impressive schedule including ‘The Business Panel Q&A’ with John Bowman, ‘Finance and Funding’ seminar with George Lee, ‘New Opportunities Innovation and Green Business’ featuring speakers from Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland and the Ecology Foundation, ‘E-Business Ireland’ seminar with representatives of Cisco, Realex Payments and the Irish Internet Association. Matters will conclude on the final day with SME Case Studies and the Fingal Enterprise Awards.
“Every County and City Enterprise Board has reported an explosion in the demand for information and advice around setting up a new business. Added to this is the strong demand for business support services from companies affected by the current economic environment. In the North County, the number of people seeking our assistance over the past two years has doubled,” commented Oisin Geoghegan, CEO with Fingal Enterprise Board. “It’s vital that people know what supports are available to them from funding to mentoring to training. Thanks to the support of the local
Local racehorse trainer, Ado McGuinness had a tremendous week at the recent Galway festival, when two of his horses came up trumps at the popular annual festival. Toufan Express and Beau Michael are the star turns at Ado’s stables just outside Rush. Ado told the County Leader, “We’ve had Toufan Express for five years now, but he was injured for two years and the owners kept faith with him. This was justified when he landed a feature race, much to the delight of the owners, Our Lads Syndicate, which is headed by Michael Fanning from Balbriggan. Rush born and bred, Ado went on to explain how he Ado McGuinness is pictured in his yard with his children, Lorna, Aisling and Tadhg, became involved in horse racing in an area not renowned with assistant trainer, Stephen Thorne, on right and his two wonderful horses, Beau for thoroughbred racing. I have been a trainer for 10 years Michael on left and Toufan Express now. My father was a market gardener and he kept a few tight. We had our second winner at Galway, when Beau Michael won a ponies. My sister and I then opened an Equestrian Centre which I was chase. It meant that we had a brilliant week.” Ado has his own gallops involved in for a period of 15 years. I decided to diversify into racing and works early in the morning on the beach. The day can start at when a horse owner asked me to train one of his horses, which I did. 6.30am and finish at 11.30pm sometimes. He paid tribute to his assisThis kicked off my interest in this field,” he said. Ado trains about 15 tant trainer, fellow Rush man, Stephen Thorne, whom he describes as a horses at the moment - “it used to be as much as 35 to 40 during the ‘vital cog in the operation’ Ado’s ambition is to train as many winners Celtic Tiger era. ollywood Lakes Golf Club was the venue for the 3rd annual Naul Friends of St Francis Hospice Golf Classic, held on Friday, 6th August last for this very worthwhile charity. The course was in pristine condition, and despite some dismal weather, 45 teams set out in search of prizes. The participation of former Ryder Cup hero, Christy O’Connor Jnr., certainly was a welcome boost to the event. Three lucky golfers won a competition earlier in the year to partner Christy. Indeed Christy offered his services for next year which was gratefully accepted. Des Connolly, one of the organisers of the event told the County Leader, “In the three years since the inaugural event, over €85,000 has been collected for the hospice. Our aim is to top the €100,000 mark next year. There has been great support for the event, despite the recession and I want to see everyone back again next August,”. Said an upbeat Des. The golfers were treated to a very welcome barbecue when they arrived in and the entertainment continued until the wee small hours. The guitars appeared at 1 am and the singing was led by Swords man, Pat McCarthy who entertained everyone with his singing. Des Connolly, who partnered Pat earlier in the day, dryly remarked, “If his golf was as good as his singing, I’d have won a prize.!! The St Francis Hospice Golf Classic committee would like to say a big thank you to all staff and members, Captain George O’Doherty, Lady Captain Cindy Darby and Christy O Connor Jnr for their help Speaking on the night, CEO of St Francis Hospice, Ethel Mc Kenna lauded the outstanding commitment of Naul Friends of St Francis Hospice and their sponsors and extended her thanks to Christy O’ Connor Junior by saying “it is a privilege to be in the company of not only a golfing legend, but also a person who cares deeply for the needs of the community and particularly for the hospice movement.” As the evening concluded, Ms. McKenna was delighted to be advised that the Golf Classic would be run again next year in aid of funding for St. Francis Hospice. Dee Kinane, also of St Francis Hospice, was delighted with the effort put in by the committee. She said, “These funds are vital for the provision and expansion of hospice services. The hospice is in need of funds not only to make up the shortfall in funding for service provision, but also to fuel the construction costs of a second St. Francis Hospice facility in Blanchardstown. We are totally dependent on the ongoing support and generosity of the community to assist the Hospice in meeting the costs of this project”.

North County Golf Because golf is a leisurely sport, many people don’t think of it as promoting heart health. Conversely, since it is easygoing, injuries are believed to be rare. Golf can be good for your health and safe for your heart. These health benefits don’t just come from
swinging your club, but from walking. Walking an average course for a round of golf can be as much as four miles. If you walk 18 holes three to five times a week, you’ll get an optimal amount of endurance exercise for your heart. If you pull your clubs or carry them, you’ll b u r n more
calories per round, and benefit even more. The terrain of golf courses differ from course to course. Some are very hilly and present great physical tests, while others are more gentle in terrain and are not so physically demanding. In any event, it is advisable to stretch properly before commencing golf. This will help to offset the possibility of injury like sprains and strains and back injury. It will also enable you to be more confident in swinging the club. The term “golf stretching” refers to stretches and stretching routines that specifically benefit golfers. A good s t r e t c h i n g programme will focus on parts of the golfer’s body that are most used during the golf swing, and that can most benefit the golfer by being improved upon. Remember, when adding any new stretches or exercises, go slowly and gradually build up the pace as you progress. The question of whether golf is good exercise

and a valuable physical activity is answered conclusively in a scientific study which puts that question to rest for good with its conclusions: Guess What? Golf Is Good For You. Generally golf is played in warm, summer conditions and provide a wonderful opportunity to enjoy beautiful surroundings and brisk exercise. What better way to bolster your health than breathing God’s fresh air while toning up and burning calories. Taking golfing lessons is always advisable. This will

ensure that you have the correct posture and grip from the very start. Correct posture is vital to playing well, as well as minimising the risk of injury. As golf can be a very technical game, learning the basics from your local professional is strongly advised. Luckily, the North County is blessed with some of the finest golfing terrain to be found anywhere in the country. There is a wonderful mix of the finest parkland courses, as well as some world renowned links courses. A links
course is sometimes called a seaside course and the terrain is always sand based, with a ‘roly-poly’ feel to the fairways. Thankfully, because of the abundance of these top class courses, healthy competition between them has ensured that the cost of a round of golf is no longer the preserve of the wealthier in society, but is now a very affordable hobby. Should you wish to become a full time member, enjoying the associated benefits, as well as reducing your handicap, you would be well advised to join one of these clubs in your locality.

Food Intolerance Test Do You Suffer From:
What Is Food Intolerance?
N Irritable Bowel N Indigestion N Overweight N Bloating N Sinusitis N Hay fever N Acne N Skin Problems N Depression
The condition begins when the digestive system is no longer able to process particular foods as they pass down the digestive tract. The end result is a build-up of many poisonous intestinal toxins. This toxic intestinal mix eventually escapes into the bloodstream. These toxins are then carried through the body where they cause infection and inflammation in other organs and body systems. The objective of the test is to find the particular foods, which are causing this toxic state.

Some couples feel they want to do everything alone, but if family or friends offer to do little things to make life easier, maybe this help should be considered. For example for the ladies how about letting your friends take on the responsibility of organising the hen’s party.
Sometimes it’s nice to do something different and together with the special friends, sisters and family members. But not everybody likes the fancy dress up parties or pub crawls so there are lots of alternatives here in the North County that you can avail of. Many of the local hotels are offering great discounts at the moment and this can be the ideal venue for your hens or stags. New Heritage Sign Unveiled In Malahide North County commuters will now be greeted with a pleasant new sign near the entrance to Malahide DART station. As part of a series of signs detailing the heritage of the town, it was unveiled by the Malahide Tidy Towns group on Tuesday 17th August. President of the Malahide Tidy Towns group, Gerry Rafferty told the County Leader: “It’s the first of five signs, in an effort to establish a comprehensive heritage information trail in Malahide.” The first of the signs illustrates the history of Malahide Castle and the life of the Talbot family there, which was one of the longest ever tenures of a family in
By Jonathan Adams an Irish castle. He continued, “Then our next heritage feature will be a sign at the Malahide viaduct, where we used to have muscle beds but they were all destroyed,” The mussels beds at the site of the viaduct are said to be the actual muscle beds made infamous in the song about Molloy Malone. “The information we’re going to have on the sign is about the ladies who came out here with their wheelbarrows, filled them up and headed from here into the city to sell their cockles and mussels, so Malahide is directly linked to ‘Alive Alive O’,” he concluded.

Contd. from page 16 Don’t forget about underlay and include it in your budget. A good underlay will keep the appearance of your carpet for longer, provide extra comfort, underfoot and help reduce heat loss. So whether you want bold and colourful, or safe and neutral, the North County offers plenty of choices. Most people who will opt for carpet will only have it in a part of the home and keep laminated and wooden flooring in other areas, bearing in mind the traffic that comes into your house will effect the places where the floor will wear most. This would be the ideal place to plan for your wooden and laminated flooring. They wear well also and are great value for money and look so stylish. Another way to give your home a clean but warm effect is to have tiles on some parts of the floors and walls. Floor tiles are so handy and easy to clean, they look great and can
match in well with laminated and carpet flooring. Choose the right colour and you will get value for money for whatever you choose right here in the North County.
Decorating With Colour A splash of colour, a lick of paint, a spray of fresh flowers or an assortment of scattered cousins can lift the dullest rooms. Yes colour can add so much to a room and give it a sense of humour and feeling. Choosing the right colour is important and adds to the size of a room. Small rooms are best to be painted or decorated in bright colours, as dark colours will make them look smaller. With larger rooms using two different colours is very stylish and using wallpaper on one wall and paint on another is becoming more and more fashionable. If you don’t want to have to change all of your furniture and just want to give the room
a fresh look scattering a few cushions around will work wonders, and lift chairs and sofas too. Flowers add softness and charm to any room even the bathroom. There are lots of artificial flowers on sale if you would rather not have real flowers and they are very real looking. Evergreen plants are also a great way to add simple decorations and colours to your home. The very popular yuka tree is ideal for indoor use and if your the type that forgets to water you’re plants the yuka wont die over night. Rubber plants are also very pleasant to look at and virtually maintenance free. Rubber plants are very decorative and if the leaves are big they can get dusty. One way to clean them is to add a little oil onto a cloth and this gives the leaves a great shine and gives the plant a healthy glow. Place things in rooms that make you happy and lift your sprits and remember your home is your castle enjoy it.

O’Brien continued, “I would like to commend all the resident associations in each of these areas, the County Council and the FAI for their involvement in these projects. I have and will always continue to support sporting activities in the region. It is important that proper facilities are provided for the young and old to help them participate or get involved in healthy pursuits. I feel that these projects will bring these excellent facilities closer to residents and communities alike,” he concluded.

To write a cover letter or not to write a cover letter! Writes Siobhán Kinsella In order to answer this question we must first look at the purpose of a cover letter. The purpose of a cover letter is to highlight to the employer additional information about how you are the right person to fill their role. The cover letter is the personal touch that shows you understand the employer’s company and the main points of the job advertised. The most important point – it should show how your skills and experience will benefit that employer. Most people who send out cover letters use a standard one which is all about them, not the job advertised and not tailored in any way to the company you a r e
applying to work in. I have received numerous cover letters detailing why a candidate is perfect for a job different to the one I have advertised, sometimes it is even addressed to someone else entirely! Needless to say those applications are rarely progressed.
Do not write a cover letter if: • It is only about you • You haven’t done your research on the company • You haven’t detailed your suitability with the job spec as your guide.
Do write a cover letter if: • You have invested your time in researching the company & can show it • You can show the solutions your skills and experience can bring (be careful not to sound arrogant) • It has been proof read by someone other than you!
Tips

• Keep it brief • Don’t repeat information already on your CV • Never us a generic self centred letter • Objectively -would you call yourself for interview for the job in question? • Remember your goal – an interview! The very best of luck!

I’m delighted to say the council has now repaired the footpaths. I want to commend the Valley View Residents Association for the pride they have taken in their estate and its appearance and I look forward to working with them again,” he concluded.

I have been informed that the Council will be carrying out further improvements, including the reconstruction of the road and drainage works as part of the improvement scheme for Hamlet Lane in the coming weeks.” “The provision of a new footpath is a safety major improvement at this location for pedestrians and motorists alike and I am delighted that this work is happening now as local children will be returning to school shortly.” He continued, “These improvement works,
along with the resurfacing of the Main Street, which is underway, represents a significant investment by the Transportation Department of the in Council Balbriggan and I know the town will benefit greatly as a result. I would also like to thank the Council staff for their ongoing consultation with the community on the resurfacing works being carried out on the Main Street. We are all very aware that this work is required in our town centre and the effect it can have on local traders if it is not managed correctly,” he concluded.

When asked what was the success of a long and happy marriage, the couple said “plenty of give and take, some rows, plenty of kisses and pulling together”.
Balbriggan Taekwon-Do Club is a new club which is about three years in existence. At the moment they are trying to attract new members, both children and adults to sample this fascinating sport. They are also hoping to represent Balbirggan in upcoming competitions, both domestic and international, later this year and next year.
news@northcountyleader.ie
This sounds like a great opportunity to represent your area in competition. Well done to all the members of the club who were promoted during their recent grading under Mr. James Faulkner 5th Degree and Mr Paul Carroll 2nd Degree. Although they are taking a well earned break during August, it’s back to training hard,
starting on the 6th September, in preparation for next year’s various competitions. The club are hoping to compete in the ITF Aragon International Championships, which is being held in Zaragoza, Spain next March. The group are also travelling to Cork next June to represent Balbriggan in the ITF European Championships; this is the first time this event has been held in Ireland. New members are always welcome.

EirGrid has responded to Rush Community Council regarding the concerns they raised with Minister Ryan about health, safety and route selection regarding the East West Interconnector. “Incorrect health and safety information is causing unnecessary worry for local residents”, said John Fitzgerald, Project Director of EirGrid. The company has responded to the concerns of Rush Community Council through providing detailed responses, information and, in some cases, clarifications on points raised. “Having responded to the concerns of Rush Community Council, it is vital that EirGrid and its contractors now proceed with the project to ensure delivery by the 2012 deadline. EirGrid would like to work with all local communities and their elected representatives to minimise disruption to businesses and traffic during this construction phase to help deliver this piece of strategic infrastructure which will be of great value to Ireland,” he said. The East West Interconnector is a project of critical national strategic importance. It will help ensure that Ireland has
sufficient electricity to meet demand in the future, bring more competition to the electricity market, facilitate the development of renewable energy; and help Ireland meet its EU
climate change targets. The interconnector will also contribute towards attracting foreign investment to Ireland, as a secure electricity supply is crucial service for a company
thinking of locating in Ireland. The company has provided Rush Community Council with details under various headings, including Health and Safety and Planning and Consultation.

Community spirit was in evidence in Naul on Saturday, 7th August last. The occasion was the official opening of Fingal Allotments. The open day was a fantastic success with TD Trevor Sargent cutting the ribbon for the official opening. It didn’t end there, though as the fun day had just begun, as members along their families My car is sitting at and friends feasted the office all day and on a spit-roast pig it needs a service while all the kids had an immense afternoon on the bouncy castles. There were also display stands I have to take the offering information day off work to get and tips. The my car serviced community spirit was also shining through as people generously brought along home-made buns & cakes to share around. A

fantastic day all-round and hopefully many more to follow! Although this was the official opening, this is Dublin’s largest running private allotments. They are run by the McDonald family whom Trevor Sargent described as “pioneers” and “innovative”. This alternative farming method was developed to utilise the land in a way that all people interested in growing their own produce are given an opportunity. The allotments are located near Naul Village in an area of surrounding beauty for all to enjoy whilst growing all their very own fresh fruit
and vegetables on some of the North County’s finest fertile land. “Sizes are in the range of 250 square meters, a traditional plot size which enables you and your family to become self sufficient and importantly allowing room for crop rotation. There is an array of facilities available, such as on site parking, water and manure available throughout the site, a picnic area and toilets. and we are always on hand to give our best advice for young & old, novice or pro to help provide a greener future,” said Gearoid McDonald.

Lusk Heritage Group Celebrate 21 Years The Lusk Heritage Group intends to mark 21 years of it’s existence by gathering together a selection of photographs of Lusk, to illustrate some of the years of Lusk in 2010. The photographs will be reproduced on DVD with a voice over informing the viewer on points of interest throughout the production. The DVD will be used for the Heritage Group’s archival collection, for the National School of Lusk and for the use of of visitors. Over the years the group has produced many videos, DVD’s, booklets, plaques, exhibitions and have interviewed many of the local people both past and present. Pat Kelly of Lusk Heritage Group told the County Leader, “ This project is the first of it’s type that we have attempted and it should be a useful addition to the body of work we have done to date”.

Swords Let Down By Greedy Off Licences Continued from page 1 Cllr.Anne Devitt (FG) said, “Delivery service of alcohol to houses must be outlawed immediately. The benefits of this service are much less than the harm caused. The availability of drink to young people is directly linked to anti-social behaviour and crime is exacerbated by drink taking, where self control and inhibitions are lowered by the consumption of alcohol by young people,” she said. Deputy Darragh O’Brien (FF) also expressed his dismay at the news. “There are strict penalties for this type of selling alcohol. We have seen a change in the attitude to drink driving through education; we need the same for underage drinking. This damages everyone’s reputation, including the premises involved. There is a really good atmosphere in Swords at the moment and a lot of hard work has gone into bringing the town to its present level and these businesses are letting Swords down,” he concluded

Australian born woman, Carol Wawfs went in search of her great great grandfather Patrick Erwin, over ten years ago. Patrick was sent to Australia in 1826 as a convict and returned to Ireland with his family in 1865. Unfortunately on his return he passed away when he was back in Ireland. Patrick’s mother Sarah McNally hasn’t been traced so far and Carol started out with Patrick’s death certificate. As the trail unfolded, it led Carol to the historical society here in the North County town of Swords. Well known local historian and author, Bernadette Marks did some research and put Carol in touch with Lusk lady, Pat Kelly, who is well known for her great work in the community, especially the Tidy Towns. Pat had little to go on and eventually found Patrick’s grave in the Old Church Yard, in Lusk. Carol has now come to Ireland in the hope of finding more of her family.

Rolestown Author Doesn’t Disappoint Rolestown author, Colette Caddle has kept her fans waiting but not in vain. The No.1 Irish best-selling author has just released her new book ‘Always On My Mind’. Colette has been a best seller in Ireland for the last 13 years.
By Leslie Murphy It all began when Colette was working in Dublin city centre, she was in an office job and when it was lunchtime she would sit at her desk reading rather than go out of the office. She decided she could write a lot better than many books she was reading and started writing ‘A Little Too Late’. However she soon fell pregnant and went on to complete exams and the book was put on hold. Colette’s friend whose sister coincidentally is best friends with Patricia Scanlan kept at her to finish the book. Colette finished the book and sent it to Poolbeg and to her delight within three months she received a three book contract. She was now on the road. Colette is a mother of two boys and a full time writer who also embraces the world of like minded people through networking on the likes of
twitter and facebook. Colette told the County Leader, “I like to make every book different and use some guidelines to start off with. Normally I use a small cast of characters who all have something in common. I try to come up with an idea of a problem or event to start it off and it kicks off from there. I’ve always loved reading and have so many favourite authors to mention. I grew up in a family of bookworms and have read every type of book on account of my brother’s love of reading too. I love to read to my children and think it’s a great way to spend quality time with your children, especially at the end of the day when you can chill out”. The ink has barely dried on Colette’s new novel and she has already started working on her 12th creation. “I miss the buzz of town from when I was younger and worked in Ballsbridge and was a city girl. My new book will begin in the 80’s and I’m going to enjoy writing this book. It’s going to be a little different from my other books and I will research it in Dublin,” concluded Colette.

Speaking at the event, John McCormack had this to say, ”I am really delighted to be here to meet the extraordinary Rush committee and to accept this cheque of €45,000 on behalf of the Irish
women’s lunch and that’s not forgetting Daffodil Day itself, among others. It is very humbling. Raising €500,000 in 22 years is a huge achievement and will go towards providing free direct patient care services for people with cancer and their families, including the provision of the existing Cancer Information Service, the provision of a nationwide night nursing service and financial aid to cancer patients,” he concluded.

Excellent Summer Camp for Man O’War GFC
The young stars of the future at Man O’War GAA club will be eagerly anticipating the new season after having great fun at the club’s summer camp. The camp, which was held at Bog of the Ring Sports Centre from 16th to 20th August, was a great success, as it received the greatest number of players yet. Children ages 5-13 were taught the basic Gaelic football skills in the mornings and then they got to put their skills into practice with games in the afternoon. The young players received a high standard of education, as members of the Man
By Liam Keegan O’War first team came to teach them various moves, as well as a visit from Dublin star, Eamon Fennell. “The camp has been excellent,” said club PRO. Carrie Archer,” we had a visit from Eamon Fennell on the first day and he focused the kids on the game and gave them a lot of confidence.” Archer heaped praise on the coaches, who had come up through the ranks at the club and were now passing on their wisdom. “All the coaches and
helpers have been brilliant with the kids, as well the people in the background in administration, and they have all helped this become our biggest camp yet”, she added. The camp was topped off by a presentation of prizes to the children on the last day in front of all the parents and first team players at Man O’War GFC. “Over one hundred children attended the camp and our thanks go to the Bog of the Ring Sports Centre who provided their amazing facilities free of charge”, she concluded.

Father And Son Rivalry In Balbriggan An amazing coincidence occurred in Balbriggan Golf Club recently when a local family from the Balrothery area had great rivalry, when father and son came 1st and 2nd in a competition. Philip Tracey had 41 points, followed in 2nd place by his son, 16 year old Stephen with 39 points in the Vice Captain (John Scully) prize to the men. Philip, who runs the cadets section in the club for ages eight to eleven said he encouraged his son to take up the game of golf. He now has second thoughts !! Philip says “the skill of the younger players has to be seen to be believed. But I will have to keep a closer eye on Stephen,” he mused.

You are adept at building castles in the air but now you need to get back to reality, and you need to do it fast. Your biggest enemy is an unwarranted lack of faith in yourself, a fear that you cannot get to grips with what needs to be done. You can – and you must! Stay calm if something you hear is somewhat negative. Whatever happens and however much it is going to cost you, it is not the end of the world. Sometimes you attach too much importance to the mundane and the material. Love and family are more important.
Under no circumstances must you let your standards slip this week. Indications are that someone who plays an important role in your life is not acting in your best interests, but there is nothing they can do to hurt you. You can only hurt yourself.
You need to make it plain this week that you are not to be underestimated. Be assertive right from the start and others will soon get the message that you are not to be trifled with. Unless, of course, they are naive, insensible or downright masochistic.
SAGITTARIUS Nov 23 - Dec 21
You have more self-discipline than many other people, and you will need it all this week as events over which you have no control encourage you to take risks which you know you should resist. If you can afford to lose your shirt, go ahead. If you can’t – don’t.

You are always willing to do whatever it takes to reach the top rung of the ladder in your chosen role or profession. Unfortunately, there is someone close with the same ambition, and if they happen also to be a Capricorn, well, may the best man win.
If your financial affairs are logging behind as usual, you could be in for a nasty shock. Don’t panic and don’t imitate an ostrich, but regard it as a wake up call. Certain people will be impressed at how organised and how sensible you can be when you put your mind to it. You know what you want from a certain relationship but the person concerned seems less sure, less committed. What you want seems unlikely to come to fruition without your cooperation and understanding. Be patient: your time has yet to come. Under no circumstances should you flout the rules or break the the law this week, and stick to the straight and narrow. If that sounds boring to a daredevil Aries, just think about where you might end up if you, and most probably will, get caught.

Although you are naturally talented in many areas, you know that you are capable of much more than you are achieving. This week you will be nudged in the right direction; what happens after that will give you no option but to live up to your potential.
