Oldtown’s Newest Arrival Causes A Stir W
hen little Amelia Cairnduff was born in Oldtown last week, she had no idea of the fuss she was creating. The reason for this is that Amelia was born, not in a hospital, but at home to her very proud parents, Pauline and Erick.
By Patrick Finnegan What makes this birth so unusual is that it is the first home birth in Oldtown in the past 21 years.
However, it was not a planned home birth as Pauline explained to the County Leader. “My

mother, Marian travelled from South Africa to support me during the birth. Last Friday week, 3rd June, I felt a bad pain but thought nothing of it, particularly since the births of my two boys were slow and long drawn out. In the last edition of the County Leader, we reported on the distressing theft of equipment from Balbriggan Tidy Towns equipment hut. However, this week, the Tidy Towns team were overwhelmed by the generosity of the students of Balbriggan Community College who donated €475 from the proceeds of their annual school show. The students performed a version of the popular Television show, X-Factor and collected the dona-

village was very rare and, after some enquiries, it is believed that the last home birth was 21 years ago. Pauline’s entire family of Erick and their two other children, Nathan and Connor, as well as mother Marian are delighted with their beautiful new addition to the family.
tion from the entrance fee. The school principal told Tidy Towns Chairman, Joe Troy, “the students saw the story in the paper and were very anxious to support this worthy local cause.” Volunteer, Ciaran Wiseman was invited to the school on Thursday, 2nd June to receive a cheque from the students. Ciaran said after the presentation, “We are so proud of these young people. It shows they really care about Balbriggan and their environment, well done to all the students and teachers. We think Balbriggan Community College certainly has the Community X-Factor.”
