Director of Nifast. and a board member of both Fingal Dublin Chamber and the Drinan Enterprise Centre in Swords and is based at Cpl offices on North Street in Swords. She spoke to the County Leader about this breakthrough opportunity for jobseekers and employers alike. “This is the first time that a project such as this includes the requirements of employers, as well as providing appropriate training for job seekers to match these requirements. This is the best value for money initiative I have ever seen. Unemployed people will now have skills which are valuable to employers and specific to their needs,” she said. The main differences between this initiative and previous ones is that trainees will no longer be just trained, with nowhere to go. “I want people to have a career. If not, then they are back at square one in a few months, which is no good to anyone. This is the first time that industry has been asked to come up

with a solution that works,” said Kinsella. “This is hugely innovative, particularly for all involved, including employers who are looking for efficiencies and innovation in their own businesses to drive competitiveness. These training courses are not widely available and they exceed the expectations and range of skills normally associated with typical activation courses.

A Mother’s Heartbreaking Appeal The distraught mother of missing Rush man, Paul Byrne, has made an impassioned appeal for information that may secure the safe return of her son. Mary Byrne contacted the County Leader in an effort to appeal to people in Rush, who may have any information about Paul, who disappeared from his home at ‘The Cottage’ on Sandy Lane on Christmas morning. “I feel that somebody out there knows something about Paul’s disappearance and I’m appealing to them from the bottom of my heart to contact the Gardai at Balbriggan or at any Garda station,” she said. A large scale search of the area was carried out by friends and family of Mary on Saturday last, in an effort to unearth some information that would lead to Paul’s safe return. Hundreds of people turned up from all parts, which gave great consolation to Mary and her family. Mary told the County Leader, “Paul was in his girlfriend’s house on Christmas Eve until 1am, when he walked the short distance to his home, He and his flatmate, Gary sat up drinking until about 3am. Another friend, Dean Peters, was also staying in the house overnight and, in fact, Paul Mary Byrne is pictured was due to have Christmas her missing son, Paul dinner with Dean’s family later that day. Dean knocked at Paul’s door at around 10am and told him to get himself ready. Dean confirmed that he heard Paul responding in an incoherent manner, which he interpreted as being

She continued enthusiastically, “At last, this represents a real future for those affected by the ravages of unemployment and redundancy in recent times. It is also excellent value for the Irish exchequer. Employers with whom these trained people are placed will benefit from skilled personnel and will help towards providing efficiencies and a competitive edge for their businesses. I believe in building capacity and investing in people and helping them to reach their potential,” she said. See details on page 12

By Patrick Finnegan half asleep,” When Paul did not appear at Dean’s home for dinner, both Gary and Dean contacted Paul’s brother, Stephen who lives in Lusk, in an effort to shed some light on the mystery. Stephen knew nothing and the Gardai were contacted on St Stephen’s Day. Paul’s father, who lived in Rush, passed away six years ago and Mary decided to spend Christmas with her partner at Dunboyne Castle. She said, “I met Paul in town on the 22nd December, the Saturday before Christmas. It was the last time I saw him. He seemed to be very troubled by something, which was playing on his mind. He denied that anything was wrong, but, as a mother, you can sense these things. My eldest son, Stephen confirmed that Paul had been acting strangely with him in the lead up to Christmas.” Mary spoke of the wonderful support she has received from people. “It’s now a race against time and I feel I’m losing my mind, bit by bit. I’ve always asked my kids to keep holding the poster for in touch with me, but Paul wouldn’t always do so. He’s my youngest and I can’t live without him. Someone out there knows some information, no matter how small or insignificant and I am appealing to them to come forward. All of our lives are on hold,” said a heartbroken Mary.
