This Is Too Important Not To Vote By Patrick Finnegan Any talk of growth or jobs, while making cuts, is a sick joke. These cuts rule out growth. This will mean devastation for working people and many of those who voted for Labour,” she concluded. On the other side of the argument, local resident and Minister for Health, Dr James Reilly was very definite about the benefits of voting Yes. He told the County Leader, “This treaty is all about agreeing not to spend more than we have. By voting Yes, we will have access to €500 billion. I happen to believe we will not need it. Foreign investors get great Minister James Reilly comfort from knowing the funds are available. The North County is at the heart of the economic corridor, linking Dublin with Belfast. We need foreign investment to grow jobs we lost and for future generations to come. By voting Yes, you are growing Fingal’s future success,” he concluded. Fingal Dublin Chamber has also called for a Yes vote in the referendum. The call comes following a meeting of the Chamber, together with Chambers from all over the country, representing companies employing more than 500,000 employees. Siobhan Moore, President Speaking following the Fingal Dublin Chamber meeting, President of the Fingal Dublin Chamber, Siobhan Moore told the County Leader: “The business community in the North County

and in Ireland is resolutely in favour of a Yes vote in the forthcoming referendum as a means of underpinning the restoration of confidence.” Following the comments of the referendum commission on the impossibility of postponing the May 31st vote, Libertas founder, Declan Ganley said, “If the Government cannot or will not postpone this referendum, it is up to the people to do so by voting No on May 31st. We all know that there will be a second vote when the referendum fails – and we all know that there are moves afoot to dramatically modify this Treaty in Europe. He continued, “it makes no sense for Ireland to accept this deal as it currently stands, when we have an opportunity to seek a deal that is focused on tackling the real problems like bank debt which can be put to us later this year. The people know that the Government has made a mistake holding this vote with the ongoing turmoil in Greece and elsewhere, and with the new political landscape in Brussels offering us new opportunities. This decision must be put back until all our options are much clearer,” he said. Many residents believe that both sides have coherent arguments, but they are so bitterly divided, that only one can be correct. But which one? Our local representatives have been elected to provide accurate information for us to make important decisions like this referendum. Remember, your vote is precious and must

The upcoming Fiscal Stability Treaty, or Austerity Treaty Referendum, whatever side you view it from, is one of the most important treaties to have come before the Irish people in many years. It will affect the rest of your life and the lives of your children. The ultimate decision will be made by you and it’s vital that you use your vote in an informed way. Unfortunately, there still appears to be an amount of confusion and mis-information out there for many North County residents. The referendum, which will take place on Thursday next, 31st May, has caused deep division in our society, with compelling arguments for both sides. The Yes lobby call it the Fiscal Stability treaty, while the No side call it the Austerity treaty. But which one is right.? The one thing that is clear is that you should make your vote count, as referenda in the past have been decided by very narrow margins. But have the politicians supporting your view done enough to utterly convince you that your decision is the correct one.? Latest figures suggest that as many as 30 per cent of voters are undecided, which points to a lack of clarity, particularly by the Yes side, who are attempting to pass the treaty. Is the decision of Taoiseach, Enda Kenny not to engage leaders of the No side in a TV debate, damaging to the Yes side. These are questions we must answer before casting our crucial votes. Elected representatives on both sides have been very boisterous in firing insults at the other side. Have the government parties and Fianna Fail explained the treaty in full to you.? If they have and you are convinced, then a Yes vote is the way to go. However, if they have failed to convince you and you are more swayed by the arguments put forward by local TD, Clare Daly and other anti-treaty campaigners, like Declan Ganley, then you are obliged to vote No. Your precious vote is way too important to waste if you are not Clare Daly TD entirely convinced. Local TD Clare Daly was disgusted with the performance of the Labour Party, in particular, who supposedly represent working people. She told the County Leader, “Labour is now supporting a Treaty which will mean €6 billion in cuts and extra taxes to meet the .five per cent deficit target in 2015.” She continued, “This is on top of the €8 billion already agreed with the Troika. It will also mean €5 billion in cuts for twenty years to meet debt reduction targets.

Husband Got Lost After Cold Soup Row A husband who stormed out after a row about his wife's cooking nearly starved to death when he got lost in frozen forest for more than a month. Yuri Ticiuc, 69, walked out of the family home in Altai, Russia, because his wife's soup was too cold, but lost his way in dense woodlands. Yuri said "no matter what happens, that's the last time I criticise my wife's cooking. Anything is better than rotten hay."

Also, Joe Costello performed on the day his very own version of the ballad of “The Sack of Balbriggan” which was followed by Martin Fanning with the older version of the “Sack” to the tune of Kevin Barry. The group, led by Chamber President, Kevin Tolan then paid a visit to the memorial bridge and also to the site of some of the houses torched on Clonard Street.

Pet Therapy In Balrothery A fundraising ‘Pet Therapy’ event was held in aid of PEATA in Hamilton Park Care Facility in Balrothery on Saturday 19th May last. Speaking to the County Leader, Assistant Director of Nursing, Angela Moran said: The importance of Pet Therapy as an ongoing therapy is very much the theme at our Care Facility. At Hamilton Park we encourage pet therapy in “improving mental, physical and emotional health

through animal-assisted therapy”. Our residents who are depressed, have difficulty with social interaction, and those with sensory/physical difficulties, have found Pet Therapy very beneficial,” she said. Ann Kennedy, came to the event along with her 23 year old old Shetland Pony Hattie, who was the star of the day. “On the day, we fundraised for PEATA, which is an association established in 1996 and promotes an awareness of the benefits that people derive from pets. We would like to sincerely thank all involved on the day, with a special mention to Woolyfarm petting farm.”

Charitable Work By Rush Cricket Star International cricket star, Eoin Morgan is a busy man. Hailing from the North County, he has gone from scoring a hundred in one day international cricket for two countries (Ireland and England) and has put aside time during his itinerary as one of the most sought after batsmen, to do a charitable project in aid of GOAL in India He has lived in Rush for years and had wanted to work with the charity for a long time. “I first heard about GOAL as a child, being a budding young sports enthusiast,” he said. “It came about at school seeing a poster on the notice board promoting some of their work.” Then out of the blue he received a letter last year inviting him to be a patron. “I jumped at the chance obviously.” He has just recently returned from India and was taken aback by his first encounter with the harsh reality of daily life for workers and their families. “ Seeing where the local workers reside and what they go through was a huge shock for me.” Eoin was more than happy to lend his skills to

the children, who lined up to play a game or two with him while he was there. “I think overall what will always stick with me will be how the kids were so happy. Every child was smiling from ear to ear. It is GOAL that has made this all possible, which is amazing.”

Thirteen year old Megan Parker from Skerries is, quite literally, making a splash in the world of sailing. The teenager, who is a member of Skerries Sailing Club has just recently returned from competing against 1,000 other young sailors in Lake Garda in Italy. She did fantastically well, coming 19th overall and sixth in the girls section. Her result, which was the best result from an Irish sailor in the annual event, means that she and four others will now go on to participate in the prestigious World Championships in the Dominican Republic in July. This is a particularly great achievement, as Megan was the only sailor from Leinster to qualify for the event. Speaking to the County Leader Megan’s mum Olive, who is also a keen sailor, said that the positive result was down to her daughter’s dedication: “We’re all extremely proud of her. Megan is so dedicated, come rain, wind or shine she’ll be out sailing and gets up most mornings at 7am for a run so as to stay fit for the competitions. I don’t know how she does it!” she said. Sailing runs in the Parker family. Megan’s parents are also sailors and her younger sister competes as well. We wish Megan the best of luck in the championships in July.

Mary Lyons, a successful solicitor and soon to become a barrister, is deeply indebted to Bluebird Care for the expert care they provided for her mother before her death last year. Mary, who lives in Clontarf, will attend King’s Inn from 5th June until 29th June for her conversion period, prior to becoming a barrister. She had put her solicitors business on hold as she was the prime carer for her mother, Teresa. She enjoyed this role, but it deprived her of the time she needed to perform simple tasks like shopping and buying treats for her mother. “She adored apricot tarts and I needed the time to go and get them for her,” she said. Bluebird Care came to the rescue and provided top class care for Teresa. “Roz was a particular favourite of my mother’s,” said Mary. “Unfortunately, my mother got the Winter Vomiting bug and passed it on to me. She got an intestinal haemorrhage and lifting her became a two two man job. “We couldn’t have done this without Bluebird Care. Audrey was amazing,” said Mary. They were particularly brilliant in the harsh winter weather and adopted the show biz principle, “The Show must go on.” Bluebird Care provided respite care, which allowed Mary to leave the house. She was incredibly dedicated to her mum, so much so that she abandoned her solicitor practice to look after her. “I had to keep my practicing certificate and continue Rule 23 in order to get the qualifications to become a barrister,” she said.

“I remember the day well when I realised my mother must stay in the safety and love of her home. She had wandered down the stairs and couldn’t get back up. I had a client in the house at the time. He was a large, burly man and he tried to help my mother upstairs. She grabbed the bannisters and I will never forget the look of terror on her face, as she thought she was being taken away. I knew instantly that she must be cared for at home,” said Mary. “It was important for my mother, and hence for me, that she remain in the home. We could not have managed without the wonderful service of Bluebird Care. She could not have received this level service anywhere else. Teresa passed away on the eve of her 96th birthday and Mary feels that she did everything possible to make her passing as peaceful and dignified as possible. The contented feeling of having done your best is a source of great consolation for Mary, who quickly acknowledges the vital role played by Bluebird Care here. “My brother came to visit and was really impressed with the role played by Bluebird Care in looking after her and providing respite care for us. My

She died peacefully at home. Our family are so grateful to Bluebird Care, who placed our mother's care at the top of their priorities. Money cannot buy this feeling,” she said.

Kinsealy Residents Angered At Project Change

UN International Year of Co-Operatives Gerry Foley, Rush Credit Union and Vivienne Keavey, Malahide Credit Union – were in Croke Park at the national conference marking the UN International Year of Co-operatives. Organised by the Irish Co-operative Organisation Society (ICOS), the Irish League of Credit Unions and the National Association of Building Co-operatives, the event was addressed by President Michael D. Higgins.

Council officials have come in for sharp criticism for changing the design of a long awaited planned community centre in Kinsealy Melrose to accommodate boxing, without consulting with the community or their elected representatives. The Kinsealy Melrose Residents Association have been pursuing this project for almost 20 years and were delighted earlier this year, when it was finally confirmed their community centre would be built and named after the late community stalwart who made the project his life’s work, Liam Rodgers. The design of the building was approved by councillors at the local area committee and then at a meeting of the full council, but it has now emerge that the council’s architects department have been asked by officials in the community department to add on another building for boxing.

The move has angered residents and members of the residents association who understood the project they have fought to achieve for so long has been ‘ hijacked’ to solve another problem for the council as it seeks a permanent home for Swords Boxing Club. Senior Executive Officer in the council’s community department, John O’Brien came under fire for the change of plans at a meeting of the Malahide Area Committee, where Cllr Peter Coyle (Lab) put forward a motion that the original plans for the community centre be progressed to tender stage without amendment. Coyle complained about the lack of consultation on the changes and said that councillors, the local community and Swords Baptists who are giving up parking space for the project were not informed before the architects department were instructed to change the design. Councillors lined up to criticise the lack of consultation on the proposed changes to the project, but have agreed to reserve judgement until plans are drawn up for the new design and the local community can be properly consulted on the proposal.

Minister for Health, Dr James Reilly is pictured cutting the ribbon at the official opening of Prosper Fingal's community based service at North Street in Swords on Friday last, 25th May.

A Word Of Caution With the recent closure of a number of high profile garages, customers are being put at serious risk of substantial losses. When trading in your existing car for a new car, the finance funds on the new car are generally sent by the new lender to the garage in payment for the car. Swords based solicitor, Pat McGonagle has issued a word of warning to prospective Pat McGonagle buyers. He said, “As part of the deal the garage then clears off the loan on the existing vehicle so

that they can then re-sell the traded in vehicle. We have come across a number of cases where the garage have been very slow in paying off the existing loan, but more seriously where the garage has ceased trading for the purpose of Liquidation and there are no funds available to clear the customers existing loan. This leaves the customer with two loans, one car and little hope of any recovery from the Liquidator.” “Our advice when dealing with any Financial Companies relating to the payment of existing loans is that you ensure that that portion of the purchase price which relates to the clearance of your existing loan is transmitted from your new Lender directly to your existing Lender. If you are turning the loan around with the same Lender/Loan Company, this will not be an issue but considerable care must be taken when your new Finance Company is different from your existing Finance Company,” he concluded.

A New Street Fest In Balbriggan A full week of fun, music, sport and family activities is coming to Balbriggan. The traditional Balbriggan Summerfest will be open on the 1st of June with the Parade and Opening Ceremony, leaving from the Church Carpark at 7.30pm and finishing up at the Town Carpark at Quay Street. There will be a carnival atomosphere with plenty of fun and games for all the family. As we draw near the Olympics, Balbriggan will be celebrating with an Olympic theme. There will also be a Mini-Olympics fundraiser held by Remember Us, Olympic displays by local sporting clubs, live music, carnival, family entertainment and

then ending with a fantastic Fireworks display which has been kindly sponsored by Morelli’s Ice Cream Parlour. New to the Programme this year is the Street Fest in St.George’s Square. North County Living by Aine Hannah

A Love So Strong Anita Barry, from Malahide, has had a very personal interest in the work carried out by the Alzheimer Society since 2007. That was the year her mum, Carmel was diagnosed with the disease. “There were earlier signs,” she tells County Leader, “but the medical diagnosis was in 2007.” When asked how the disease was first suspected she says: “Family history and because I’m a nurse I was clued into it more.” At the time, her parents were still living in the west of Ireland and despite finding that supports available to families caring for an Alzheimer patient “weren’t great”, Anita, her sister Marie and their dad found they could cope with providing Carmel’s safety and comfort by themselves. To achieve that though they decided it would be best if the couple relocated to Dublin, so they could be near each other. “Initially they had their own apartment, my dad is fantastic he’s just been wonderful. It wasn’t fair on him to have to cope alone and because we both live in Dublin, the best option was for them to move here. “For someone of his age having to leave what’s familiar to him and meet the challenges that are constantly changing – the needs are 24/7 and having my dad subjected to that was just not on.“ She explains that while the diagnosis of Alzheimer’s is upsetting, it is just the first milestone in a progressive disease. “In the beginning, as long as there’s somebody maintaining their safety it can be enough, so in our case there was no real need to intervene before 2009 and 2010; then we just felt that things were progressing more rapidly. It wasn’t good for my dad to be challenged in that way.” Learning to cope with Alzheimer’s in a family you learn that you have to do different things at different stages, she says. Anita continued, “So we converted an area in our house, and he’s very happy living with me. He gets to see his grandchildren, so even in the midst of terrible disease there have been positives. If mummy’s illness hadn’t happened they would probably be still living in the west so that’s something of a light in a very dark tunnel.” “When they came up here we applied for some care hours, which at the time were a lot easier to get than they are now, we didn’t apply for more than we needed.” They found some more light in the tunnel when they reached out to the Alzheimer’s network of support agencies. “Janice from the Carer’s society, Jenny, and Kerry in the Alzheimer's Society, and Joanne Brennan – all of those girls are fantastic, and Ann from Fingal Homecare,” she says of the people who have become part of Carmel’s journey through the disease. “We run family care courses to train people on how to look after someone with dementia and on how to look after themselves while caring for someone with dementia,” says Joanne of the Alzheimer Society. The care hours Anita does have are a vital part of Carmel’s care. “There’s a lot of lives intertwining and the Alzheimer's Society and Fingal Homecare allow

that,” she says. Carmel’s outings and even the supervision at home provided by the carer mean that Anita gets to be mum to her two boys Luke (4) and Jonathan (2). “I couldn’t do it without a very supportive husband, I have a very supportive husband,” she says of her other half, John. “Mum’s hours of care that she has from the Alzheimer Society are funded by the HSE and the rest is funded by ourselves. “I suppose everyday there can be something different, the main thing that enables carers to cope, is to become more educated about the disease. “It’s a heartbreaking disease. With all the different aspects, it’s such a long way of saying goodbye to someone; each day you’re losing a little bit more; each year there’s a little bit more gone; it’s very challenging in every aspect, emotionally, physically, everything.” Getting the community help was a stagepost she says because, “I could leave the house and I knew mammy was safe, well-looked after, happy. It was a big transition for us even allowing someone to take care of someone so special to us. They are amazing the two girls we have, I couldn’t say enough about them. I think in a funny way they’re part of the family now. You start to suspect if there’s something out of the ordinary, it’s obvious when you’ve a close relationship with a family member, get the assessment done early so the treatment can start early; there’s education for carers, workshops for carers. “I would have had my own clients in the community, so I experienced it hands-on what it meant for the client. To have that ability to get yourself assessed knowing in your heart and soul that you’re going to get this diagnosis; the steps you have to take to do that, they deserve the care.” Knowing that services are being cut in the community is a big concern. “Keeping them at home is best from their point of view and when that’s not available it’s unbelievable. Particularly seeing as the emphasis for the Minister for Health is supposed to be primary care. It’s much more expensive to put them into long-term care; yet when that’s the only option, it’s really baffling.” “I would love to see in the hospital situation if someone needed to go in through A&E, which is often a complete zoo – it is noisy, foreign, of necessity it’s bustling – but Alzheimer’s and dementia patients can’t cope in that environment: they’re sick, it is so not suitable. Patients that come into hospital are left waiting for 15 -20 hours on a trolley with nothing happening for them. There should be some special area that they have a quiet private area where they’re not subjected to road traffic accidents. You’re not just dealing with someone who has physical illness, but their dementia makes it even more challenging, there should be some way of speed-tracking these patients. The current aim is to keep it below seven to nine hours sitting on a trolley and that they’re either given a bed or discharged to go home within that timeframe; but that’s still a long way away.”

“Learning to cope with Alzheimer’s in a family, you learn that you have to do different things at different stages.”

Chairman of the committee, Gerry Rafferty, told the County Leader: “Having discussed our forthcoming plans with the County Council, we hope to be able to continue to work with them to ensure our plans are put into action. On behalf of the Tidy Towns committee, I’d just like to say a

Finally, Ann Doyle from Skerries Tidy Towns is as ever, very encouraged by the entire town’s efforts and praises the hard work of all the volunteers: “Everyone really pulls together and it’s a team effort which we couldn’t do without the continuous imput we get from the whole town.” She also praises the success of their ‘Adopt an Area’ scheme, which is

based on the successful model where groups adopted a beach. “We really get great results with this scheme, it’s worked so well.” We’d like to wish all our Tidy Town competitors the best of luck. We see first hand all the dedicated, hard work they put into making the North County a desirable place to live and this does not go unnoticed. Everyone is encouraged to give a helping hand in whatever way they can as a little goes a long way.

Dozens of local talents gathered at the hotel hoping to get into the big final on June 3rd. Now in its fourth year, this event is more popular then ever. There was a queue for auditions for the whole day and a variety of acts were showcased. “There was a fantastic turnout on the day. Over 100 people came along, the youngest being only three years old. There were singers, dancers, and also karate demonstrations,” said one of the organisers. The judges, Eric Campbell, James Brennan, Shannon Marry and Niamh Dunne had the difficult mission to choose the 12 acts that will battle it out in the final. “The Balbriggan Summerfest Committee would like to thank everyone who came and auditioned for Balbriggan’s Got Talent. They were all absolutely fantastic. The judges were very impressed with the level of talent they saw. We strongly encourage everyone to continue and we hope to see you again next year,” said the judges. The Grand Final will take place on Sunday 3rd June at 7pm.

Now that summer has finally arrived and the sun has come out to play, our mood changes and we think of things like ice cream. We recall streets in Mediterranean towns with nice ice cream parlours and we wondered why we couldn’t have these lovely parlours at home. That is all about to change now. The award winning Morelli’s Italian Ice Cream has opened an Ice Cream parlour in Balbriggan that is set to bring back happy memories of foreign holidays. This franchise, which opened on Quay Street in the town last Saturday, is the only one that is a Morelli Ice-Cream parlour in the Republic. It is ideally located in one of the cottages opposite the car park on Quay Street. Morelli’s is well known in Northern Ireland and is Pictured at the Grand Opening of Morelli's Ice Cream Parlour @ based in Coleraine. They were established in 1911 the Cottage on Quay Street, Balbriggan are Guido Morelli, May in Italy and shorty afterwards, set up on the North Bissett, Aidan Bissett and President of Balbriggan Chamber of coast of Ireland. With the outbreak of the Second Commerce, Kevin Tolan. World War, they left to return to Italy. However, they soon returned to the North and set up their base in stroll to the harbour, or to sit in the park. There is also a large car park here, as well as on-street parking outside Coleraine. The idea to bring the world famous Ice-Cream brand the shop. We are ideally situated to avail of the passing south of the border looks like being an inspired piece of trade,” she said. The quaintness of the cottage, with it’s business acumen. Local lady, Kara Bissett is the cleverly painted exterior is an instant eye catcher and lures people to it. “We tried to keep the same theme in the cottage,” said Kara. The uniqueness of the product is not lost on the family, being the only place in Balbriggan that stocks 16 different flavours of scoop ice-cream. Kara was quick to point out that scoop icecream is not the only product Morelli’s provide. “We also provide whipped ice cream, as well as crepes, tea and coffee. We also provide seaside Guido Morelli is pictured cutting the ribbon at the Grand Opening of Morelli's Ice Cream Parlour @ the Cottage on Quay Street, Balbriggan. The Bissett family are in milk shakes, for which there is always a demand. We also do large tubs of take-away ice cream, in a mix and match business over 100 years in Balbriggan, with Kara and her family being the 4th generation. She said, “This is format, where you can mix seven scoops of ice cream, something new to us. We already own the cottage and thus enjoying an explosion of flavours. decided to change it into an Ice-Cream parlour. We This is a family run business, complete with all of the wanted to stock a really top quality scoop ice-cream. We professional qualities associated with such firms. We also do Ferrero Rocher topping, which is proving to be particularly popular. We have one customer who makes the trip here from Drogheda, especially for this topping. We hope the people of Balbriggan feel the same way,” says Kara. At last there’s good news for people from the area who suffer from diabetes. Up to now, they could not enjoy the delights of ice cream. But that is about to change at Morelli’s. “We have a sugar-free diabetic ice cream. It Congratulations & Best comes in vanilla, strawberry and chocolate flavours. a car, your Credit Union can help you do this too. They offer an array of quality services, advice and solutions in a way that makes them most unique. Big or small, all your needs will be met. Your local credit union is right at the heart of your community and will offer you a personal service and any advice you need on various savings, loans or insurance schemes that they have on offer. They will give you what’s right for you and always ensure that you are in control of your own finances. For those of you who may not yet be a member of these quality establishments, keep reading to see exactly why you should join your local credit union today.

What Is A Credit Union? A credit union is a group of people who save together and lend to each other at a fair and reasonable rate of interest. Credit unions are non-sectarian and non-political, and continue that Irish tradition of co-operative self help. They offer members the chance to have control over their own finances by making their own savings work for them. When you become a member and start saving with them you will have access to fair and reasonable rates on savings and loans. The Credit Union exists only to serve its members — not to profit from their needs.

How Does A Credit Union Differ From A Bank? A credit union acts just like a bank, providing all of the same services: checking, savings, mortgage lending, auto loans, business loans and more The one distinguishing factor is that credit unions are nonprofit institutions. They are not beholding to shareholders, so when they make a profit, they don’t give that to shareholders. Instead, credit unions return that profit to members in the form of dividends. And you’re getting that unique community service that you just won’t get in a bank.

Why Should You Join? Not least to avail of all the great services your credit union will have on offer: Saving Schemes, Loan Options, Insurance offers, Financial Advice and more, you get a personal, community service that you would not usually get in a bank. While credit unions increasingly have worldwide reach, they are very localised here in the North County—meaning they are run and owned by people in the community, which is a great comfort to those in the area. Chances are you know and are very familiar with those running your credit union and have that accountability factor with them. Credit unions work with you, for you and will cater to your specific needs and wants.

up? Well now is the right time to start doing the little jobs in order to make way for the big projects. The extra light in the evenings gives many of us the push into starting home improvements. You don’t have to spend the earth to make your home look like it’s had work done to it. A scattering of cushions, some scented candles or even new lamps can make the difference you have been looking for.

Room By Room Whatever room you feel needs your attention first is the place you want to start. Let’s say it’s the bedroom, in that case there are small improvements that will make your room look like a new boudoir. New curtains and blinds are a start, to make the window a beautiful feature in your bedroom and you can still have that minimal look. Keeping all your clothes and belongings tidied away will automatically keep your room looking fresh and clean. If you have a small bedroom, minimalism is very important and there are lots of tricks and ways

Use Time Wisely Whatever you decide is the priority that needs your attention make a small start on it. If you take things one step at a time you will be suprised how fast you can get things done. Once one project is done, it’s time to start on a new one. Planning and preparation is very important so make a plan and stick to it. There is nothing better than to relax in your own home after a good job has been done.

to ensure all of your essentials are well out of the way. Under bed storage boxes and bags are a great way to store some of your things. You should also take advantage of your attic, if you have one. Once all of your belongings are sorted and tidied, try scattering a few cushions on your bed and clearing bedside lockers. Try a nice lamp on your bedside locker that will match your curtains or bed clothes. This gives the room the feeling of few colours and makes it look bigger.

Kids Stuff The little people in our lives can’t always help as much as we would like them to. However, there are ways that you can help them, to help you. Provide your children with storage boxes and shelves to store toys, games and other things they

Police Forum Meeting Held In Balbriggan Balbriggan Community Policing Forum held its second public meeting of the year in the Town Hall, Balbriggan recently. The meeting was attended by Inspector Declan Yeats who came along with three of his colleagues from Balbriggan Garda Station, Brian Murray Town from the Balbriggan Town Council, Zoe Nelson and Louise Butler from Balbriggan Community Policing Forum. Worried about the recent increase of burglaries in the area, dozens of residents came along to voice their concerns. “The nature of

what happened in Balbriggan and surroundings areas had been unprecedented. The incidents are reduced now, but they are still happening.“ said Inspector Declan Yeats. Several precautionary measures have been taken after the wave of incidents, such as handing out thousands of crime prevention leaflets, neighbourhood watch teams have been set up by residents associations. Locals asked many questions and offered suggestions. The Gardai also asked for support at all times. “Anything you think is unusual, please let us know. Our job is to aid you in whatever way we can and ensure you feel safe in your town. People feeling like prisoners in their own homes is something that should not happen.” concluded Inspector Yeats.

HOROSCOPES AQUARIUS

Jan 20 - Feb 18

It’s easy to say that letting go of the past is a prelude to a wonderful future. But relinquishing elements of your life that are as reassuring as they’re familiar is quite another matter. Signs indicate not to do anything drastic.

PISCES

Feb 19 - Mar 20

A rewarding week when dealing with personal relationships, when intriguing developments force you into action. In fact, you’ll enjoy dealing with these issues so much that you wonder why you delayed for so long.

ARIES

Mar 21 - Apr 20

Once you begin to discuss problems openly you realise how willing others are to help you resolve them. In fact, this is what helps you this week to tackle dilemmas that you thought you’d just have to live with.

TAURUS

Apr 21 - May 20

The troubles you had last week, especially in the workplace, are about to be completely reversed, as those who thought they’d got away with their misdemeanours discover that they’ll have to pay the piper after all.

Gemini

May 21 - Jun 20

With work-related matters things are about to play into your hands. This so improves your position - and your spirits - that you can well afford to wait until next week, when those around you will finally see things your way.

Cancer

Jun 21 - Jul 22

This is a week when you begin to revitalise elements of your life that you’d given up on ever being exciting. And, better yet, you realise how unimportant difficult and interfering people are in the scheme of things.

Leo

Jul 23 - Aug 23

With all aspects of your life this week, your mood is grim. Complain if you want. Just keep in mind that, by the time next week, with its spectacular planetary activity, is over, you’ll be singing a much happier tune.

Virgo

Aug 24 - Sep 22

Having laboured over decisions involving work, you’re in no mood for change. However, indications are that these decisions are out of your hands - but, the disruption may not be as bad as you first thought.

Libra

Sep 23 - Oct 22

Don’t be too disheartened if the week seems slow - as change is coming. So much so, that with the week’s far more agreeable planetary activity, you’re able to move swiftly to take advantage of new prospects on offer.

Scorpio

Nov 23 - Dec 21

However unsettling the outcome of one particular confrontation, finally having all the facts out in the open will come as a relief. Still, you should handle the situation carefully and slowly as things are bound to be confused.

County Crest Goes Green The County Council recently hosted a two-day seminar on Green Technology for the Edge Cities Network Group. This included presentations from IBM on the topic of smarter cities, the ‘Green Way’ project, and information on Enterprise Ireland’s successful securing of EU funding for Cleantech projects. Country Crest, one of the most successful North County based businesses using renewable energy, hosted a visit to their facility for the Edge Cities representatives. The delegates, including the Mayors of two municipalities, were

given a master class in renewable energy use by Michael Hoey, MD of Country Crest, as he explained how important it has been in the success of his family business in Lusk. In addition there was a short tour which included visiting the wind turbine and part of the production facility as well as a talk on the importance of sustainable food production from Mr Hoey and his staff. There has also been 25 new jobs created locally in the last three months by the company. This is good news for the local economy and bodes well for the future of the North County businesses. The Edge Cities Network is a network comprising of representatives from various parts of Europe including Spain, Poland, Denmark and Northern Ireland amongst others.
