Airport Staff Raise Money For Charity Dublin Airport security screening staff raised €700 for charity recently, by creating tasty dishes from more than a dozen different countries for their colleagues to sample. The security screening break room in Terminal 2 had a distinctly international flavour as colleagues prepared and donated a variety of dishes from their homeland while celebrating Cultural Diversity at Work. Event organiser, Dublin Airport Search Unit Officer, Mandy Walsh told the County Leader, “With sixteen different nationalities working in our department, we thought it would be a great way to celebrate cultural diversity in the unit as well as raise money for our DAA charity partners. Colleagues baked dishes from Greece, Italy, Mexico, Russia, Spain, Bulgaria, Brazil, Poland and, of course Ireland to name a few. There was a great atmosphere throughout the day, as colleagues proudly displayed their creations,” she said. Dublin Airport recently announced Merchant’s Quay Ireland, MS Ireland and My Canine Companion for Autism Services as its three new charity partners for 2017. Last year Dublin Airport staff, supported by the company and members of the public raised €2 million for eighteen Irish charities in the past ten years.

Dublin Airport has launched a safety awareness campaign specifically aimed at drone users. To protect the airfield, signage has been mounted on the airport’s perimeter fence indicating that Dublin Airport is a ‘No Drone Zone’ and highlighting that it is illegal to operate a drone in the vicinity of the airport. Dublin Airport’s Chief Police Officer, Pat Bracken, told the County Leader, Dublin Airport Chief Police Officer, Pat Bracken and Airport “Safeguarding the Management Unit Operations Officer, Nicola Kelly at one of airfield at Dublin the No Drone Zone signs on Dublin Airport's perimeter fence. Airport is a key priority for us. Drones are becoming an increasingly popular way to film the countryside, however, they can cause serious damage to an aircraft. We have been working with the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) to keep the airfield safe from drones and signs have now been mounted on the airport’s perimeter fence to ensure we keep Dublin Airport a No Drone Zone,” he said. Drones areprohibited at the airport and the airport vicinity due to the risk of a drone colliding with an aircraft or being ingested into the aircraft’s engine. The IAA’s Director of Safety Regulation Ralph James said, “We very much welcomed this development at Dublin Airport. It’s essential that the general public understand that drone activity is prohibited from taking place within the vicinity of an aerodrome for safety reasons. There have been a couple of incidents of people using drones close to the Airport, which have disrupted operations and drone users need to be aware of the rules for the safe operation of drones.” All drones over 1 kg must be registered with the IAA through its website www.iaa.ie/general-aviation/drones. The IAA encourages drone operators to familiarise themselves with the rules for drone operations to ensure that they operate their drone in a safe and responsible manner.

Malahide Composer’s Opera Malahide lady, Siobhán Cleary’s opera, Vampirella will be showcased this March 21st25th, in Smock Alley Theatre in Dublin. The production is presented by the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM) in collaboration with The Lir National Academy of Dramatic Art. Siobhán told the County Leader, “I grew up in Broomfield, Malahide which was quite a rural area in those days. There were a lot of magical places for a kid to explore, such Malahide Castle or the Motte and Bailey in Wheatfield, where there was wonderful old oak which we used to spend hours climbing. I think this helped feed and nurture my imagination as a child and perhaps ultimately directed me towards creative pursuits.” Siobhán is a past pupil of Scoil Íosa, Malahide and then went on to study music at NUI Maynooth, Queen’s University Belfast and Trinity College Dublin. The talented North County girl also has attended composition courses in Italy, Poland and France. The opera is inspired by a short story by Angela Carter. Set in 1914, Angela Carter’s story tells of Hero, an English soldier on a cycling holiday in

the Carpathian Mountains, who seeks shelter in a lonely castle where he meets and disarms the beautiful vampire Countess. Hero’s virgin innocence saves him from being eaten alive by the beautiful blood-sucking woman, but it will not save him from the butchery of the First World

By Leslie Murphy War. As the lovely lady vampire meets her match in the person of a virgin boy, so Carter’s baroque prose meets its match in Siobhán’s dramatic musical composition, with playful lyricism underpinning the drama, humour and ornate language, and Carter’s inspiring original material honed into a libretto by Katy Hayes. Irish talent has frequently been drawn to the vampire myth. Dubliner Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel Dracula has been absorbed and firmly embedded into the global vampire narrative. The story returns once again to Ireland, to provide lifeblood for this original contemporary Irish chamber opera, written specifically for the talented singers and instrumentalists of the RIAM and funded by an Arts Council Project Award.

Rush Hero Molly Receives Award Rush scout, Mollie Powell, was hailed a hero after she heroically saved the life of a fourteen year old Turkish boy while on holidays in Turkey last year. Mollie Powell, who is a member of 38th Rush Scout, along with 6th Wexford Sea Scout, Sean Thompson, recently received Scouting Ireland Honour Awards for their bravery in saving the boy from drowning. Scouting Ireland presented Mollie, along with Sean with Honour Awards at Scouting Ireland Youth Achievement Awards for their heroic deed. Molly told the County Leader, “ I found out I was receiving the award on my birthday and I’m still in shock. I will never forget the experience myself and Sean had. The incident really opened my eyes to the importance of CPR, and I feel that First Aid should be a thing young children should learn from an early age in school.”

During the holiday, both Mollie and Sean saw a fourteen year old Turkish boy being knocked unconscious after he jumped into a river from a 25 foot high gantry. After Sean dived into the river to catch the boy, Mollie ran to the riverside and waded in to help Sean bring the unconscious boy to safety. Mollie helped place the boy in the recovery position and secured his airways before a nearby tourist who was a nurse took over and performed CPR. After being brought to hospital by paramedics, the boy regained consciousness and made a full recovery. Chief Scout, Christy McCann told the County Leader, “The Youth Achievement Awards acknowledge our youth members who have risen to the challenge of voluntarily committing to doing something worthwhile and lifeenhancing for themselves, the

environment and the community. To be recognised and celebrated among their peers and family members, we are deeply encouraged by the number of recipients and the impact their efforts have had on their communities,” he said.

Adult Acting Class In Swords Well-known local playwright, David Gilna, who is fresh from the success of his play, Unsung Hero, is setting up an acting class for adults in Swords. Swords man, Gilna told the County Leader that he was approached by a number of local people, who have expressed an interest in getting lessons, and he was delighted to oblige. “It’s all kicking off in the Lord Mayor’s in Swords on Wednesday, 8th March and all

beginners are welcome. Joe Savage from the Lord Mayors is doing a great job for local artists, for which he should be commended,” he said. Upstairs in the Lord Mayors is fast becoming the home of some excellent plays and it was where Gilna held the premiere of ‘Unsung Hero.’ The popular venue also hosted ‘Heartstrings’ - A collection of short plays, by another local playwright, Stephen Maguire last week.

Opening the seminar to a packed audience at The Atrium, County Hall, Swords, County Mayor, Cllr Darragh Butler emphasised the importance of involving local people in ongoing archaeological research at Swords Castle: Digging History. He also underlined how important the Castle is to the people of Swords and throughout the North County generally. Newman Happy With Accessibility Works Local councillor, Joe Newman (NP) has expressed his satisfaction with work currently underway at the hazardous junction at Main Street and Bridge Street in Swords. He said, “I put a motion at a Council meeting regarding the placement of wheelchair ramps there. I received numerous complaints from wheelchair users, many of whom have experienced great difficulty in negotiating this narrow, slanted junction, where they could easily topple onto oncoming traffic,” he said. “I’m delighted that funding has been allocated and in a short space of time, work has already commenced to eliminate this hazard. I would like to thank the Operations Department of the County Council for their efforts to improve the accessibility for elderly residents and wheelchair users in the Swords area,” he concluded.

The Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon is the biggest all women’s event of its kind in the world. The first Women’s Mini Marathon began in Dublin in 1983 with 9,000 entrants, it has grown in popularity and the event now hosts approximately 35,000 women on the June bank holiday weekend. Women from across the 32 counties of Ireland, U.K. and Europe take part each year to raise vital funds for their chosen charities and causes. The Vhi Women’s Mini Marathon is a world class sporting event and is dedicated to helping women across Ireland to achieve their fitness goals. The minimarathon has become an important part of Irish culture and a celebration for Irish women age 14 to 65 and over. The event caters for women who wish to walk or jog for fun while also catering for competitive runners. Indeed, it is not only women who have benefited from the event, but the charities are also the big winners. In 2016 it is estimated that almost €8m was raised by the participants bringing the total since the race started in 1983 close to €203m. All charities benefit as it is the women themselves who decide who they will support and many local causes gain vital revenue from the event. It is now the biggest single day charity event in the country. Over 40,000 woman will take part in the 10K run, which is the world’s biggest female only event! The marathon is a great opportunity to both achieve your fitness goals, and help raising money for a good cause. The great thing about the VHI Mini Marathon is that it’s open to everyone. No matter if you want to get fit or are a professional runner, this is an event we all share together. There are different categories: Walking, Jogging, Fast Jogging (all open to participants over 14 years old), Running and Elite Running (for runners older than 18 years). So even if you are not too fit (yet), get involved!

“If you look at the Dublin GAA crest you will see the Fingal Raven prominently displayed and we are proud of the contribution that clubs and players from our area play in the success of Dublin’s GAA teams from underage to senior,” he said. Chief Executive of the County Council, Paul Reid also paid tribute to both teams and, in particular, the players. “You are role models for people in the county because of what you do on a daily and a weekly basis,” he said. Many of the councillors present at the presentation also took the opportunity to speak and congratulate the players on their achievements and the inspiration they provide to the citizens of the county. In reply, the chairman of the Dublin County Board, Sean Shanley, thanked the Mayor and Council for honouring the teams and also praised the Council for their assistance in helping clubs throughout the county, particularly in the provision of playing facilities.

Additional Resources Needed At Passport Office Local Fianna Fáil TD and Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Darragh O’Brien has said that additional resources must be allocated to deal with the increased demand in passport applications and inquiries. Passports for the entire State are manufactured in Balbriggan. In information received by O’Brien through parliamentary question, it is believed that a total of 230 Clerical Officers will be recruited into the Department on a temporary basis. O’Brien said, “In 2016, just over 730,000 passports were issued. This represented an increase of over nine per cent on the year before and demand continues to be very strong so far this year.” “The current processing times for the passport service are under significant pressure with minimal staff resources. Broader customer service improvements need to be rolled out by the Department to better assist the management of growing demand,” he said. “Early indicators in 2017 are showing that increased demands for passports are set to continue, especially in light of the British vote to leave the European Union. In fact, latest figures from the Department of Foreign Affairs show that passport applications from the UK were up 74 per cent in January compared to the same time last year.” “The 230 temporary posts that have been promised as part of the Passport Reform Programme must be made permanent to minimise the impact of the high demand on turnaround times and on customer service. “Temporary positions will simply not suffice in offering the level of support that is necessary to meet these growing demands on existing staff in Balbriggan,” concluded O’Brien.

Loreto Swords Quiz The Parents Association of Loreto secondary school are running a quiz on St Patrick’s eve, March 16th. The quiz will take place in Peacocks from 8pm and a table of four is €10. Good News For Our Older Residents

Older people in the North County are set to benefit from Fine Gael’s new health legislation. That is, according to local TD, Alan Farrell who is highlighting a new Bill which will see a reduction in prescription charges for 390,000 medical card holders aged 70 and over, as well as their dependants, from

Wednesday last, 1st March. Farrell said, “New health legislation introduced last week is good news for older people in the North County, as it will reduce their prescription charges. This means more money in the pockets of older people as they care for their health. “Minister for Health, Simon Harris, introduced the Health Amendment Bill to Cabinet last week. This legislation reduces the maximum charge for prescription charges for those aged over 70 years with medical cards and their dependants. It will mean that, since 1st March, prescription charges will reduce from €2.50 to €2.00 per item and total prescription charges will be reduced from €25 to €20 per family, per month. This is set to benefit 390,000 people across the country and it is great that older people will benefit.” “This delivers on a key commitment in the Fine Gael manifesto before the last election to reduce the cost of prescription charges for older people. “This week also sees the introduction of the €5 per week increase in the Old Age Pension and Fine Gael is working hard to protect the economic progress we have made, so that we can use it benefit the people who need it most. This includes older people, and we are working hard to ensure that the fruits of our economic recovery are shared with them, across every region of the country,” said Farrell.

There’s no doubt about it that your pet is a true member of the family. Your furry or not-so-furry friend makes for a wonderful companion, but each pet, whether it be a cat, dog, rabbit, gerbil or a slightly more exotic creature, needs real care and attention. This is especially so with exotic animals, which can be fascinating to many of us, especially children. Some companies even bring these exotic animals to parties, where children enjoy learning all about them.

or kind of food your pet should eat, ask your vet. On the subject of vets, be sure to take your pet dog when it is still a pup to get its first injections, dewormed and then a booster shot each year. It’s also a good idea to micro chip and neuter your pets, especially if you’re not planning to breed them (this also prevents them from developing many diseases). It is also important to never self-

EXERCISE The majority of your pets will need a good dose of daily exercise, so it’s essential to make sure that a member of the family or someone you know and trust will be on hand to make sure that they get it. Dogs in particular require a great deal of this, so it is essential for their health that they are walked every day. Some animals require less exercise than others, so it’s important to know the amount your pet will need from the get go. The North County has many dog walkers for example that you can hire if you know you’ll be out working during the day.

DIET AND HEALTH It’s very important to ensure your pet gets the right kind of nutrition when it comes to the food that they eat. If your pet becomes unwell after eating a certain type of food that may not agree with him, check the packet and take note of the ingredients so you know to steer clear of these in the future. Avoid foods that are heavy in additives and be aware of any allergies your pet might have, and if you’re unsure what type

GROOMING Just as important as their health and exercise is their general grooming. So things like maintaining their coat length, clipping their paw nails and dental and eye care health all need to be taken care of as needed. Some pets need to be washed more than others (Rabbits are not meant to be bathed). There are plenty of pet groomers located here in the North County that will facilitate all your pet grooming needs, so make sure to visit these on a regular basis to ensure your pet is groomed as needed.

HOUSING

diagnose your pet’s illness or attempt to give them any form of tablets (this is toxic). If your pet is unwell, take them to see a qualified professional. Luckily there are many top class professionals in the North County, who can assess your pet and ensure that they are given appropriate food for their species and size.

Your pet will need a house, hut or type of cage to call home, so you’ll want to make sure that this is the right size, kept clean and dry and is maintained regularly so that your pet is as comfortable as possible in its little home. If you’re going out for the afternoon, make sure to leave out food and water for your pet beside its little house. Your pet is a precious member of your family, that can provide hours of enjoyment, so it must be afforded the proper respect, just like any other family member.

The pupils were involved in a monster clean-up of the local community at Halloween, as well as collecting clothes for the local St Vincent de Paul. The County Council planted trees around estates in Rush and the children look after them. On the Action Day, the pupils gave very interesting information about various projects related to Globalisation and it is evident that they put a lot of hard work into their various projects. They even put on a play about Fairtrade, which was full of information and excellently performed.

Local Link For North County, Louth And Meath Local Link provides safe secure and reliable Public Transport services in local and rural areas of Ireland. The mission statement of the original Rural Transport Programme, is ‘to provide a quality nationwide community based public transport system in rural Ireland which responds to local needs’. In North County Dublin specifically, two new Locallink services are due to come on stream in mid-April 2017. These are: 1) Balbriggan, Millfield, Naul, Ballyboughal, Oldtown, Garristown and onto Ashbourne. 2) Knocksedan, Swords Manor, Brackenstown Road, Main Street Swords and Pavilions. These new services do not affect the existing services provided by Nifti, which are proving very popular with rural residents. ‘Local Link’ is the brand name for the organisations delivering the Rural Transport Programme

nationally. At a national level, the Rural Transport Programme is managed by the National Transport Authority. In 2017 the National Transport Authority will continue to identify improvements in existing services and developing appropriate new routes based on the budget of €15.9m (includes €1.5m from Department of Social Protection). Over 40 new additional rural transport services are currently being examined by the Authority to be delivered across the State this year. Key features of the new service developments include

greater integration with existing public transport services and better linkage of services between and within towns and villages. At a local level in Fingal, Louth and Meath, the original Rural Transport Programme companies are now pooling their experience, knowledge, resources and competence across their respective counties to deliver excellence in rural public transport services and passenger experience, care and comfort. Other proposed routes for the area are also under consideration/development at the moment, such as a package of routes centred around the local train stations, accessing tourism sites and local parks. The theme of the initiative is ‘Trains and Tourism.’

Singers Needed At St Colmcille’s Swords St Colmcille’s parish are currently looking for new members for the choir. A Flavour Of Our MEPs’ Work Brian Hayes, FG’s Dublin MEP reports that medical teams from across 25 European countries along with Norway have commenced a new collaboration. Hayes was speaking last week and said, “It is estimated that between 6-8 per cent of the population in Europe has a rare disease and perhaps up to 300,000 Irish people during their lives. He went on to say, “Joining up of EU’s best expertise on this scale should benefit thousands of Irish patients with diseases which require a particular concentration of highly specialised healthcare in medical domains where the expertise is rare.” Dublin Independent MEP, Nessa Childers complained of her EU colleagues’ failure to take stronger action to reduce healthcare costs. Speaking in Brussels last week Childers said: “There is no shortage of good ideas to make expenditure on medication and healthcare more rational, but big pharma hasn’t had to swallow any of the bitter pills conservatives have been handing out like poisoned candy to our citizens. “Our proposals, part of which reflect work done at UN level, had already been diluted by the right at committee stage.” “A majority of conservative colleagues opposed my proposals to safeguard clinical trial and pharmaco vigilance data from trade secrets rules in international trade. Likewise, they also shot down my call to keep governments’ pricing and reimbursement prerogatives out of international trade negotiations.”

“Today, Fine Gael helped to push and secure the sugar-coating of our references to dubious patent claims by pharma companies which keep reinventing the wheel to stretch their monopolies on old medicines.” By Cathal Boland Sinn Fein MEP, Lynn Boylan has used this year’s European Equal Pay Day to call for the Irish Government and the EU to do more to eliminate the gender pay gap. Speaking on European Equal Pay Day, she said, “While it is important to constantly battle against pay inequality every day, it is particularly important today to raise awareness that in Ireland and in the EU, women still need to work longer than men to earn the same.” “Women play a vital role in Ireland and Europe’s employment and economic growth and their skills and talent are necessary for the economic and social development of our communities and societies. However, often times this is not always reflected in women’s pay and position in the labour market.” “Although women have as good, or better qualifications than men, often their skills are not valued the same as men’s and their career progression is slower. This results in an average gender pay gap during their working life and thereafter a gender pension gap in their retirement,” she said.

8 Ways to Save on your Shopping Sometimes shopping around, having some patience and a general sense of thrift can go a long way in your budget. We’ve compiled a list of the most common things you can really avoid By Darren O’Reilly paying full price for, happy shopping!

CLOTHES

VIDEO GAMES

The trick to getting the best deal on your clothes is to shop off-season. Purchase your clothes when they go on sale. Often spring clothes hit stores in January, so you can pick up winter clothes selling off at deep discounts!

These days prices have shot up and the most popular games are up to €80 new. Unless you are one of those “I need to have it now” gamers, try wait a while before buying. Price will fall as the game gets older and most game shops offer traded in or second hand games for a fraction of the price.

BOOKS We all know about the library for checking out books, it’s a no brainer especially with most books nowadays costing €10-€20 new. Some libraries even offer free ebooks for your Kindle!

DINNER OUT There are some simple ways to save on your next meal out: • Sign up at the restaurant’s web site and get coupons or offers sent to you. • You can also purchase discounted vouchers online on GroupOn, which is a personal favourite!

CAR INSURANCE Take a minute and make a few calls and you might be able to lower your rates, especially this year with the recent hike in premiums up to 40%. You could save hundreds by ringing around different providers.

We all want to own the latest phone or tablet but they do come at quite a cost. One simple way to always save is to purchase refurbished. Refurbished just means someone purchase and then returned it to the store. It doesn’t mean used. Often people will sell their brand new upgrades online a lot cheaper than in store, with no difference. A little patience for the right listing to pop up could save you a lot of money.

WATER You already pay for water to come into your home. Instead of paying for bottles, just fill up your own reusable bottles yourself! It’s that simple, but spending €10 on bottled water a week amounts to €520 a year. Why!!

GADGETS

APPLIANCES The trick here is to purchase at the right time. Often when a new model is on the way or is released, last year’s model will be slashed in price. If it was good enough a week or month ago when it was the ‘latest model’, it’ll do now!

Frank To Take A Dive For Charity Former Mayor of Balbriggan, Frank Snowe is flying to Australia on Wednesday, 8th March and, while there, he intends to raise funds through a sponsored parachute jump for Parkinson’s Disease awareness. He is going ‘Down Under’ to visit his daughter. He told the County Leader, “I was diagnosed with the disease 18 months ago and knew nothing about it except you shake, there’s no cure. That to me didn’t seem too much of a challenge, at least I wasn’t going to die from it. Frank Snow I was also aware that Michael J. Fox, Muhammad Ali and Billy Connolly had the disease. I was not aware of the other aspects of the disease. I have set up a charity page to collect funds and would appreciate any publicity,” he said. Quit While You Can! Last week on National No Smoking Day, Ash Wednesday there where numerous campaigns nationwide aiming to assist people to QUIT smoking. Giving up smoking is not only extremely hard but it’s a life changing event. There are many ways to ‘Kick the Habit’ nowadays and lots of supports and nicotine replacement aids available. Many people tell different stories about how they successfully gave up smoking and try to encourage others. The big thing about smoking is that it can lead to cancer and studies have shown that one in every two smokers will die of a tobacco related disease. When giving up smoking for some people it’s a part of their daily routine and they can feel like they will be giving up something they love. Sometimes making a plan can be a step in the right direction. Try taking up a new hobby to replace smoking. Reading, games and fitness can be distracting. If you feel you may put on weight remember this is only temporary and you can change this, your new hobby could be healthy cooking. Include your children, family or partner,

By Leslie Murphy invite friends over and have a theme night. A big tip is to reward yourself, whether it be every week you’re successful or every month. The effects on your health will shift to the effects on your purse and this is a great incentive. Don’t Give Up! you will come across bumps in the

road and you will find there will be problems along the way, but try to overcome them and remember help is always close by whather it be by going on line or picking up the phone. One of the organisations rallying to help people give up smoking is the Irish Cancer Society (ICS), they are calling on the Minister for health Simon Harris, to move on plain cigarette packs to replace branded

packs. This follows the Health Bill’s recent passage through the Oireachtas and signature into law by the President. The Society is now calling on the Minister for Health to start the clock on the ‘washout period’, the twelve months before retailers have to stock plain packs, without undue delay.

Donal Buggy, Head of Services and Advocacy at the ICS told the County Leader, “We welcome the passing of the Health Bill, which is not before its time. Delays have meant that we missed the deadline for commencement of plain packaging last May, and have fallen behind our European partners in France and the UK. Thanks in part to a co-ordinated campaign headed by the ICS, the necessary legisla-

tion has passed. Now it’s is time for the Minister to set out a start date on plain packaging, so we don’t fall even further behind.” The ICS have also recently rolled out a We Can Quit programme in different locations in Dublin. Rachel Burke from the ICS told the County Leader, “The Balbriggan programme recently started and on Tuesday March 7th will be the last day to get onto this course. The course runs for twelve weeks and offers free nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) and one to one support.” The HSE QUIT programme is another great support to people trying to Kick the Habit, and they offer numerous different supports. They have a fantastic website with lots of information and ideas how to quit, you can do an online Quit smoking plan and if you want to speak to somebody the offer a call back service. A nurse will call you back and help you to choose a plan that suits you and offer you advice and support. They say smoking is a dying habit but there are still many people who are struggling to quit and with all of the services out there nowadays it is possible. Remember nothing is Impossible, even the word impossible says I’m possible.

The Fingal Ethnic Network (FEN) is a countywide network of ethnic minority groups and individuals living in the local County Council area. They held their AGM recently at Holywell Community Centre, Swords. Chairman, Kesava Gollapalli, who is a resident of Malahide explained the workings of FEN said, “Fingal Ethnic Network was established by the County Council Community Office and the Fingal Development Board in 2006 and was formally launched in August 2008. Since then, it has grown to include over 20 groups representing many ethnicities who live and work in the region.” “The network seeks to provide a coherent and inclusive voice for ethnic groups in the area - to speak as one recognised voice on matters relating to their well-being in the county. We promote awareness of issues relevant to ethnic communities among the general public and strive to strengthen integration within the community,” he said. “We work with community groups which are ethnic minority groups living in the county. There are 32 such groups in the region. What we do is collaborate and work with them on projects and provide them with support in terms of any projects they need help with. These can include workshops on crime prevention seminars and we also provide support and advice on intercultural days.” “We believe that people from ethnic minority groups living in the Fingal and the North County area should be represented by a single voice and bring all these groups under one umbrella and represent them with stakeholders, including the Gardai and Fingal County Council. Our groups have representatives from Slovakia, Romania and other Eastern European countries, as well as India, Pakistan and Bangladesh communities,” he explained.
