The grandparents of little Molly McNally took the plunge recently, in an effort to raise much needed funds for their granddaughter. The decided to take the Ice Bucket challenge in an effort to raise much needed funds for their granddaughter, who has Stage four Neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer. This was a particularly courageous effort as Mary will be 80 next birthday and Seamie is 93, who both live in Lusk. They call themselves Recycled Teenagers, as they bravely took to the challenge like ducks to water.! Well done to them both for carrying out such a challenge in their senior years. They are asking people to support Molly’s Miracle Trust by texting MOLLY to 57802 and they say a big thank you to all who have already done so. The McNally family in Lusk, with the help of friends and members of the Naul Senior Citizens committee, are holding a ‘Table Quiz’ fundraising night for Molly. This much anticipated event will be held in Murray’s Pub, Lusk (Bottom Shop), on Monday, 6th October. A table of 5 costs €25 and there will be a great raffle, with lots of great prizes on the night. Little Molly is in need of all the support she can get, and people from all over the North County andd beyond, have been magnificent in their support for her. We trust that this night will be another memorable one. to rectify this problem, in the run up to the budget next month. He pleaded, “As part of the Budget for next year, the Government needs to set out how it intends to clear the waiting lists, allow for new assessments, and then put in place the necessary supports for children. There needs to be a clear decision made to prioritise these children, or the Government runs the risk of their development being seriously and needlessly damaged.” “There is plenty of evidence of the benefits early intervention has for children with special needs and disabilities. This is an essential service that needs to be provided across North County Dublin and I will continue to push the Fine Gael / Labour Government to do the right thing by these children,” he concluded.

Encouraging Signs As Local Jobs Grow Local TD, Alan Farrell (FG), is encouraged by the publication of the CSO’s Quarterly National Household Survey, which shows that employment levels are continuing to increase in the North County and emigration figures are decreasing. “The figures released by the CSO show that 31,600 jobs have been created within the last year, while over 70,000 jobs have been created since the launch of the Action Plan for Jobs in 2012,” Farrell told the County Leader. “I am encouraged by the fact that the majority of jobs being created are full-time as this highlights the sustainability of our economic recovery. Over 8,000 jobs have been created in the Tourism sector over the past year, which is very positive news for the North County,” he explained. “As a prime tourist destination, the North County is in a strong position to benefit from job creation in tourism and hospitality and this position is bolstered by the nine per cent VAT rate for this sector and the abolition of the Air Travel Tax.” “We are ontrack to achieve our goal of creating 100,000 jobs by 2016 and I will continue to work for measures to support SMEs and job creation in the North County,” Farrell concluded.

Horse And Carriage Drive For Temple Street A unique charity fundraiser was held along the roads of the North County, on Saturday, 13th September last, all in aid of the High Dependency Unit at Temple Street Children’s Hospital. The event was a Horse and Carriage Drive, which was organised by Garreth O’Byrne from Stamullen, who decided to raise funds, in thanks for the great care his young son received, while he was a patient at Temple Street. A large gathering of people took part in the drive, which started at Ring Commons sports ground, and went as far as Stamullen, ending back at Ring Commons, a round trip of 20 kilometres. Garreth, who was accompanied on the trip by his son, Darragh and
daughter, Katie who are both avid horse lovers, explained to the County Leader about how the idea was hatched. He said, “I decided to set up a new horse and carriage club, and with the help of committee members, Garreth and Keith Sherwin, Andrew O’Byrne, Kenneth O’Byrne, Declan Gill, Garreth Preston, Mark McDonagh, we managed to get it off the ground. This is our first event, and I thought it was appropriate that it should be for Temple Street, in thanks for their great care and to give something back to them.” “We decided to run 30 wagons altogether from Ring Commons to Stamullen, and thankfully, the weather was beautiful. It was a great success, and I hope it is the first of many. I want to thank everyone for their help, including the Gardai, and marshals along the route,” said Garreth.
The decision of the County Council to close a portion of Forest Road in Swords for essential water mains repairs, is set to cause hardship for local businesses. Business people at the bottom of Forest Road, near the entrance to Highfields estate, have been in contact with local councillor, Joe Newman (NP) to complain about the lack of respect shown to them by the local authority. The road closure is for repairs to the 30” watermain on Forest Road, and will commence on Wednesday 24th September, and remain in place for the duration of the works. There will be no vehicular access to Forest Road from Dublin Street. Forest Road will be local access only as far as Highfields. Newman said, “I have been contacted by local business people here, who are suffering from the continuous closure of this stretch of road. I have made representation to Irish Water to find out when they can replace the troublesome main. Up to now, this main has just been patched up and continued to leak on a regular basis. This has been a problem for as long as I can
Swords Solicitor Partakes In Charity Cycle Well known Swords based solicitor, Pat McGonagle of Patrick W McGonagle & Company Solicitors, was one of 118 cyclists, who took part in the annual Garda Cycling Club’s charity cycle in aid of St Francis Hospice. The event, which is the Garda Cycling Club’s 25th anniversary of running the popular event, travelled from Santry Garda Station to Carlingford, Co Louth, a distance od about 110 kms, on 9th September. Last year, the event raised a staggering €52,000 for the charity and McGonagle, who is a regular participant in the event, was hopeful that a similar response would be forthcoming this year, He told the County Leader, “The event was held in perfect weather conditions, and we hope to have raised close to the exceptional amount of last year. We had considerable assistance from Gardai, who provided an escort for us as far as Balbriggan. As always, there was a great atmosphere along the route, with plenty of banter and the group stopped for lunch at the Monasterboice Inn, just north of Drogheda. Eventually, after an average of four to four and-a-half hours, the group reached the lovely town of Carlingford. It was a hugely enjoyable event, for a really worthy cause,” he said. He went on to thank all those who supported and sponsored him for this fantastic cause.

Tax-Free Drinks Day In Malahide Well known Malahide publican, Tony Gibney, of Gibney’s pub, has decided that enough is enough, when it comes to the amount of taxation that publicans have to pay. He has spearheaded a campaign of protest on Thursday, 25th September, when he will serve food and drink, at prices minus Government tax, including VAT and excise duty. This campaign has already gained the support of many other local publicans, who feel the same way, and are likely to follow suit. He told the County Leader about how his frustration at what he describes as n ‘excessive tax’ needs to be tackled. He said, “We decided on the no tax day and the idea is to highlight the fact that for every €5 a customers spends with us, €1.50 goes directly to the Government. This leaves just €3.50 for all our other costs. Most of our pints will be charged at around €3.50 on the day, with some
even less, depending on the cost, minus tax. The same applies to mixers and soft drinks, as well as food. Effectively the customer will be getting a tax-free day,” he said. Gibney feels that the tax paid in the hospitality sector is ‘exorbitant’ and is costing jobs. “Jobs are being threatened by the rate of taxation imposed on our industry. The Government’s initiative of leaving tax at nine per cent for the hospitality business, was a great idea, and they need to be congratulated for that. I feel that it has, not only saved jobs, but created some as well. If they applied this to the drinks industry, it would be a tremendous boost to job creation in the industry. Currently, taxation on drinks is charged at the rate of 30 per cent on average.” He also appealed for closer parity with supermarkets, many of whom are selling below cost, which they can

There was widespread sadness in the locality, with the announcement of the death of popular Naul man, Donal Killian, who passed away on Saturday evening last. Donal, who was proprietor of the well known Killian’s pub in Naul, died at St Vincent’s Private Hospital, after a long illness. He was an avid supporter of rugby and the Leinster rugby team in particular, and he was associated with The late Donal Killian many fundraising events for different charities, and especially the IRFU Charitable Trust, which benefits injured players. He was very popular with everyone and has been widely described as a thorough gentleman, who will be sadly missed. Hearings by Parliament are scheduled from the 29th, with three hours provided for each of the 26 new Commissioners. The vote on the appointment of the full Commission is set for the 22nd October. MEPs called on the nominated Energy Commissioner to sell his Spanish oil company shares, which he has now done. The Spanish Socialist say they will vote against the Juncker Commission on the basis of its perceived economic policies. The governing agreement within parliament may be under strain and some fall out might be expected but who the casualty will be, is as yet unclear. Juncker has committed to no new members of the EU during the coming five years, yet he does not rule out preparation for enlargement after the period. Juncker clearly intends Johannes Hahn, the Commissioner from Austria, who heads up the Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement portfolio, to negotiate with candidate status countries, during the current term, such as Turkey, Montenegro and Serbia. This time lag will provide these countries the opportunity to strengthen their economies in preparation for full membership circa 2020.
Juncker does not have to face the immediate question of admitting or confirming membership to Scotland following the referendum result. I’m pleased to say, I called the result 55 per cent ‘No’ vote correctly on Twitter 30 minutes after the polls closed. But Junker cannot sit back just yet. Catalans are set to hold their own referendum to cede from Spain circa 9th November. The Spanish Government is set to challenge the legitimacy of such a vote through their courts. But as we see in the UK individual regions throughout Europe are beginning to demand more autonomy over their own affairs. While the new French Cabinet won a vote of confidence in Parliament in the last week, others have not done so well. Some electoral upsets have occurred with the rise of the right wing AFD in regional elections in Germany, and this is the cause of concern to mainline parties in that country. In Sweden, the centre right coalition was defeated in a result that sees the Social Democrats struggle to establish a new Government. There is general concern again as the far right Sweden Democrats gained 13 per cent of the vote more than double their 2010 performance. Both these far right parties have anti immigration and national identity as main policy platforms. These results reflect a trend across Europe. Putting up the barricades is not the answer to the plight of those fleeing Syria, Egypt, Sudan or the Palestinian territories.

Recently, local food company Keelings hosted a site tour of their farm at St Margaret’s, to give media representatives a wider appreciation of the level of production and growing processes that take place at the site each year. The tour began with a fruity breakfast in the strawberry glasshouse, during which David Keeling welcomed all attendees and gave a history of the company. Caroline
Keeling took the floor next to talk about the commercial side of the business, plans for growth and level of overseas business. The Keeling family’s expertise in growing dates back to 1896 when the family worked a farm in the Donabate area. The group then continued onto the apple orchard, where head apple grower, Brendan O’Sullivan spoke in-depth about the different varieties of apples grown on the
farm and the science behind the growing process. Guests also visited the pepper glasshouse to see the plants developing and were taken through the growing process by head pepper grower, Jarleth Kingston. Lunch on the day comprised of a specially devised Keelings menu, incorporating fresh produce from the farm. Nutritionist for Keelings, Aveen Bannon also spoke about the “benefits of berries.”

Fingal Enterprise Week To Help SMEs Navigate Tech Landscape Local-based SMEs will gain valuable insight into the ‘tech trends’ of 2015 from some of Ireland’s leading technology thinkers at the opening event of one of this year’s largest Enterprise Weeks. Fingal Enterprise Week 2014, organised by Fingal Local Enterprise Office and running from October 6th to 10th, will launch five days of events with the ‘Future Tech Trends’ breakfast meeting, aimed at helping local business owners and managers identify key technological developments that will affect their business in 2015 and beyond. With new technologies, platforms and software emerging on a daily basis, the opportunities for small Irish businesses are substantial, but can also be perilous. Facilitated by QED Training’s Noel Davidson and featuring Senior Account Strategist at Google, David O’Mahony; John Beckett, Owner and Founder of Eirtight, an award-winning web and mobile technology and software development services provider and technology commentator, Andy O’Donoghue, the ‘Future Tech Trends’ panel discussion will
help SMEs navigate the rapidly changing global Tech landscape. “It is vital for the North County’s small businesses that they stay up to date on what is emerging in terms of technology. Fingal Enterprise Week is structured, so that SMEs can learn from industry experts but also take the opportunity to assess how best they can develop their business going forward,” said Oisin Geoghegan, Head of Fingal Local Enterprise Office. The ‘Future Tech Trends’ panel discussion is taking place at the Helix in Dublin City University from 7.30am to 10am on Monday, 6th October. A nominal booking fee of €10 will apply. While the intrepid rafters were paddling their hearts out, the lifeboat was tasked by Dublin Coast Guard to investigate a floating object spotted by a local yachtsman. They quickly located an object floating in the water, which turned out to be an old fridge. At the presentation of the prizes,

Local Farmers Can Avail Of Diabetes Testing North County farmers or visitors to the National Ploughing Championships on 23rd to 25th September, will have an opportunity to be tested for diabetes. Lions Clubs plan to screen up to 5,000 farmers and other visitors for diabetes during the event. When they offered a similar service last year, more than 500 farmers (11.3 per cent of those tested) were diagnosed as being potential diabetics and were referred to their GPs for further investigation. This year, a team of 120 Lions Club members and volunteer nurses will be present in a Lions Club marquee on all three days of the Ploughing Championship. They can also provide spokespersons and specialists in diabetes prevention. They hope to increase awareness of the prevalence of diabetes among the farming community and the general population.
The Irish Georgian Society, through its new Conservation Grants Scheme, has awarded a €10,000 grant to St. Columba’s Church in Swords. This is great news for the historic church, where a section of ceiling collapsed last year, which resulted in the closure of the church. However, since then, a campaign has been in place to raise funds for restoration works. Recently, the County Leader highlighted the plight of the church, in a front page article, in which the importance of restoring this important building to it’s former glory, was emphasised. Funded by the London Chapter of the Irish Georgian Society, these grants will help owners and custodians of architecturally important historic buildings to fund essential works, which may not otherwise be possible. St Columba’s Church is one of the most historically important buildings in the North County, which has some of the oldest stained glass windows in Ireland. The news will be particularly welcomed by it’s congregation, who have to fulfil their Sunday worship in the Old Boro schools, across the road, since the closure of the church last year. Primrose Wilson, chair of the Irish Georgian Society’s grants committee told the County Leader, “We were overwhelmed by the level of interest in the scheme and received 70 applications from a countrywide range of building types and ages.” She continued, “Given the funds available and the high calibre of applications, it was particularly challenging to determine how this limited budget should be spent”. She commented that, “given the architectural importance of the church and the urgency of works, it was decided to award St. Columba’s a core grant of €10,000.” This is part of €50,000 worth of grants for building conservation projects, which has been announced by the society. Pictured inside St Columba's Church in Swords, at the announcement of the €10,000 grant by the Irish Georgian Society, are Derek Evans (Friends of St Columba's), Donough Cahill (Irish Georgian Society), Canon Robert Deane, Primrose Wilson (Irish Georgian Society) and Billy Goodwin (Friends of St Columba's)

Swords School Raises Third Green Flag
Blanchardstown Centre Raises Thousands For Charity A cheque presentation of an amazing €60,000 was made at Blanchardstown Centre last week to Peter Kelly, Chairman of the Board, St. Francis Hospice. The cheque was presented by Joe Gavin, General Manager, Blanchardstown Centre. This cheque represents funds raised by Blanchardstown Centre Staff through their Fundays Event which took place in the centre recently. This initiative was led and supported by Blanchardstown Centre’s Management team. Shoppers showed their appreciation through donations resulting in a significant amount being raised for St. Francis Hospice Blanchardstown. Joe Gavin expressed his thanks everyone who supported the event. “St. Francis Hospice Blanchardstown is our Charity of Choice and we are delighted to continue to support this very worthy cause,” he said.
Basketball Club Seeks Members There were great scenes of joy, colour, and a sense of achievement at Swords Educate Together National School on Thursday last, 18th September. The occasion was the raising of the school’s third Green Flag, this time for Water. Pupils, teachers and parents all enjoyed the festivities, which were carried out in perfect weather conditions. To add to the occasion, the wonderful Army Number 1 Band played some wonderful tunes, which had everyone tapping their feet to the beat. The biggest reaction was when the band struck up one of One Direction’s hits, much to the delight of the youngsters. Assistant principal, Bronagh Dillon praised the hard work of the Green School’s committee, and everyone associated with the project, who put in hours of hard work, to ensure that this day was achieved. She reminded all about the ethos of Swords Educate Together National School, which places care and respect for the environment, as well as education and a love of nature, as some of it’s core values. Already plans are afoot to secure the school’s next Green Flag, which will be for Transport, and the hard working committee are well advanced in the planning process. Local GAA Legend Offers Support To Charity Former Dublin goalkeeper and double All Ireland winner, local man John O’Leary went up the hill for Jack & Jill, literally, with his three-year-old son Tom on his shoulders. The hill was Hill 16 in Croke Park and this was a very special and personal photocall for John whose son Tom, who has a rare chromosomal disorder, is supported by the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation. According to John, this was a very emotional climb for him. He was cheered on by his wife Catherine and son Jack. The goal of the photocall was to promote the ‘Gala Up the Hill for Jack & Jill’ campaign which is happening until the end of September, to help fill the €200,000 funding shortfall facing the Jack & Jill Foundation in 2014. Tom was born with a heart condition called tertralogy of fallot and has a rare chromosomal disorder which means he is in need of constant care. He is described by his family as a bubbly, happy, little boy. John told the County Leader: “To take Tom up the hill for Jack & Jill is a very special moment for me and for Catherine and his brother Jack. He is climbing his own hill

every day and he does it with courage, determination, laughing and smiling all the way.” “Home is where he belongs where we can give him all the extra support he needs, but we couldn’t do it without the help of Jack & Jill who give us the training, the confidence and the support to make this happen. I want to encourage as many people as possible to support this campaign,” he concluded.

St. Patrick’s GAA Club in Stamullen presents their ‘Old Time Social Dance’ on Friday, October 24th from 9pm to Midnight. Admission is €7.50. Further to an error in last week’s edition, in which we mistakenly said the event was to be held in St Pat’s in Donabate, we can confirm that the social dance will definitely be held in St. Patrick’s GAA Club in Stamullen next month. We hope we didn’t cause too much confusion for either club. Refreshments will be served. It promises to be an exciting night, with music from the popular band ‘Country Pride.’ If you fancy a bit of “Rí rá agus ruaille buaille “ then St. Pats, Stamullen is the place to be, so go along and enjoy the night.
shutters, interior décor and fitting out. The location is the first in the locality to operate under a profit sharing contract. The facility will soon begin hosting meetings and groups, such as mother and toddler, jamboree and bridge club. Further works will include signage and upgrading works to the tennis courts. As a result of these works there has been a large increase in membership numbers, and we hope to build on this good work in the coming months. Chief Executive Paul Reid told the County Leader: “The facility is one of many fantastic amenities available to citizens of the North County, and with this refurbishment work, we can ensure that it can continue to be enjoyed for many years to come.”

dentists who you can trust to look after your teeth. Whether you’re in need of a new cavity, replacement, braces or just a check up, the massive benefits of visiting your dentist is hugely beneficial. As a nation, addicted to tea and coffee, there are downsides to indulging in our favourite drinks, and that is the unfortunate case of teeth staining. Yes, we hate to admit it, and as grimy as it sounds, tea and coffee are probably the main reason our teeth aren’t sparkling white. However, this isn’t something major to worry about, in fact, it’s quite easy to solve. There are many businesses in the North County, for instance beauty stores and dentists, that can whiten your teeth at amazing prices. This is something you may want to consider, if there’s a big event coming up. But why wait for last minute panic, or until an unexpected party invite is posted through your door? Save the hassle, and be prepared with glamorous white teeth all day, every day. Of course after this, you’ll need to show them off with a big smile. At your local North County dentist, you can avail of very simple procedures from expert professionals, to boost your confidence, have a great smile and make that big occasion what it should be. Differences In The New Junior Certificate Cycle My name is Darragh Nolan. I’m sixteen years old and attend Donabate Portrane Community College. Upon completing my Junior Certificate last June, I am now in Transition Year performing work experience in various businesses. The County Leader kindly allowed me to work with them for the past week and asked me to give my views on the upcoming changes coming to the junior cycle, as a pupil who has recently completed his Junior Certificate. As I researched and found out what the new Junior Certificate cycle will be like, I found out that the new system will allow students to study all Junior Certificate subjects for the three years doing their junior cycle. I think that three years would be more than enough time for students to choose options

they would like to study, so why must the student study all subjects over three years, if, say they already know the specific subjects they want to study in year two? If all the subjects are taught in first year, the student could study their desired subjects sooner, rather than later. Probably the most controversial adjustby Darragh Nolan ment to the cycle is the continuous assessment system. I think this is a good addition to the new cycle, as it will promote positive attitudes to classmates and teachers. Assessments that can often just be tedious class tests, will now become essential examinations for all students if they wish to get good marks in their final grade.
Deadline Extended For Junior Entrepreneur Programme Primary school children in the North County area can benefit from a free nationwide Junior E n t r e p r e n e u r Programme (JEP) that promises to open young minds to the thrill of business and while developing their skills and confidence. The original deadline of September 12th has passed but, due to the demand and response, the deadline has been extended to invite interested primary schools to sign up, as soon as possible, for the highly successful entrepreneurship programme. The JEP programme is being supported by some of Ireland’s leading entrepreneurs,
including Michael Dawson, Group CEO of One4all in North County Dublin. Now a nationwide programme, JEP aims to sign up 10,000 junior entrepreneurs from primary schools in every region across the country. “This is a great opportunity for school children in North County Dublin. There is no cost to the schools, and the benefits are enormous. It has been proven that pupils, who participate in entrepreneurship programmes, demonstrate increased initiative and self-confidence. Fostering a love for business and a culture of entrepreneurship in children will not only
Student Enterprise Awards Officially Launched An Taoiseach, Mr. Enda Kenny, T.D. officially launched the biggest student enterprise programme in the country last week, with the help of some award-winning teenage entrepreneurs. The annual Student Enterprise Awards, run by all 31 Local Enterprise Offices around the North County and beyond,, attracted 17,000 teenage entrepreneurs last year from over 370 secondary schools. Now in its 13th year, well over 100,000 students have taken part over the years by setting up and running their own student enterprises in the classroom, with support from their Local Enterprise Office (LEO). The launch took place at the Seán Lemass Awards at the Department of Education and Skills , where twelve award-winning students were presented with an “excellence in enterprise” award by An Taoiseach. The Seán Lemass Award for Excellence in Enterprise are presented to student entrepreneurs who received top prizes at either the Student Enterprise Awards or at the “Get Up And Go” Programme, run by the Transition Year Programme under the auspices of the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST).

A full programme kit is provided to schools free of charge, which includes the JEP Teacher’s Guide, Posters and classroom display, as well as a dedicated entrepreneur and project manager in each region. The programme, which was rolled out nationally last year, proved hugely successful and signed up more than 5,000 primary school children. The JEP programme is perfectly aligned with the primary school curriculum and uses an integrated teaching and project-based approach. To sign up, schools must

New curtains and blinds are a start, to make the window a beautiful feature in your bedroom and you can still have that minimal look. You may need to opt for heavier curtains as we go into winter, but the room needn’t look drab and heavy even so. If you have a small bedroom, minimalism is very important and there are lots of tricks and ways to ensure all of your essentials are well out of the way. Under bed storage boxes and bags are a great way to store some of your things. You should also take advantage of your attic, if you have one. Once all of your belongings are sorted and tidied, try scattering a few cushions on your bed and clearing bedside lockers. Try a nice lamp on your bedside locker that will match your curtains.

There are plenty of local venues here in the North County, that are sure to serve all your party venue needs and plenty of them will have good Christmas deals on too. If you have a large group to book, make sure you give your venue of choice plenty of notice and book early to avoid disappointment. Many of the venues offer exclusive deals the earlier you book, so definitely keep an eye out for these.
Be Entertained Some hotels offer great value packages such as ‘Dinner & Show’ or ‘B&B, Dinner & Show’. These packages can be a lovely way to spend your party - an entire evening of fun, food and entertainment, along with a relaxing overnight stay in a hotel. Another option is to add some excitement by planning a themed night. Your choices are limitless from 60s/70s/80s themes, Winter Wonderland, Black and White Ball, Casino Night, live comedy or some interactive entertainment. If your venue does not have in-house entertainment, consider booking a local DJ or live band.

Festive Food There’s no doubt about it, when it comes to that certain point at the party, everyone looks forward to a bit of grub. Whether you like a traditional Christmas dinner with all the trimmings, or prefer to indulge in your favourite Asian cuisine, or even some lighter ‘party food’ your options are wide-ranging in the North County. Popular at many venues is a predinner ‘Winter Cocktail Hour’, offering seasonally appropriate drinks at reception, such as mulled wine, hot whiskey, or hot chocolate. Keep an eye out for those Christmas deals; if you are getting a hotel deal, food and drink options may be included in your package. Whatever you decide, make sure to book early, so that you can avail of the optimum dates on offer. Otherwise, you may have to settle for a date that is way too early and may lack the vital atmosphere associated with dates that are just right. Make that call now, and put your mind at ease.
Secret Santa Be it among work colleagues or friends, the ‘Secret Santa’ exchange is a great way to ensure everybody receives a gift as well as cut down costs at this purse-tightening time of year. Dress For Your Shape Each year and every new season, we see a host of new fashion trends to update our wardrobe with. However, not all styles and tailoring can suit our body shapes. Confidence is essential to looking and feeling good in any outfit. This is far more important than trying to keep up with the latest fashion trend. Carraig Donn is a firm believer in dressing for your shape and feeling confident. They pride ourselves in designing clothes to flatter all shapes and sizes, and want women to feel comfortable, yet stylish no matter what the occasion is. Slightly rounder on top with long lean pins, apple shaped ladies must remember to wear clothes that highlight your best features and avoid creating attention to your middle area. This beautiful J’aime la Vie Bardot Bordeaux Dress (pictured), is a must have for women with apple figures. This classic Parisian style dress flatters a larger bust and helps draw attention away from the tummy area.

Call To Nominate North County ‘Silver Surfers’
HOROSCOPES AQUARIUS
Jan 20 - Feb 18
Problems relating to a financial issue or arrangement will surface early in the week, and you would be wise to let the matter simmer for a while longer before deciding what to do. Professional advice might be a good move.
PISCES
Feb 19 - Mar 20
If criticism arises, view it as constructive and you will be in a stronger position to influence and impress later in the week. You are held in high regard, so do nothing rash to jeopardise your reputation.
ARIES
Mar 21 - Apr 20
With confrontation focusing on relationships you must avoid antagonising allies, rivals and opponents in the weeks ahead. The winds of change are blowing, but it is up to you to ensure they blow in your favour.
TAURUS
Apr 21 - May 20
Don’t waste time on complex business plans, when the chances are that they will be overtaken by events shortly. Better to concentrate your energy on something less demanding but more immediately rewarding.
Gemini
May 21 - Jun 20
A business associate or loved one could suggest that you are failing to live up to their own high standards this week. It is more likely to be their unrealistic expectations which are to blame.
Cancer
Jun 21 - Jul 22
Given that certain people are relying on you to provide material, emotional or moral support, and that this is the perfect moment to provide it, do so now and you will feel better about having fun later.
Leo
Jul 23 - Aug 23
You will be tempted to share a secret with someone you believe you can trust. Whether the confidence is your own or someone else’s is immaterial: the fact is that once it is aired it is likely to become public knowledge.
Virgo
Aug 24 - Sep 22
Relatives and loved ones are liable to be unforthcoming and uncooperative, and your natural reaction will be to give them short shrift. It would be a mistake to say anything which could bring regrets or recriminations.
Libra
Sep 23 - Oct 22
Suddenly, your confidence will soar, and you will take in your stride even those things which seemed impossible a short while ago. However, you must be careful not to undermine the efforts of those around you.
Scorpio
Oct 23 - Nov 22
Before you start sharpening your claws this week, spare a thought for someone who is still trying to come to terms with a recent disappointment or loss. A week to show some compassion to one in particular.
Sagittarius
Nov 23 - Dec 21
Although you are constantly on the go, your backlog appears to be growing, and with it your feelings of frustration and guilt. However, with a little patience you should be able to come to grips with most of your tasks.
Capricorn
23.09.2014
Dec 22 - Jan 19
It would be a mistake to take anything at face value this week - especially on the home front. It is what others do rather that what they say which will provide clues to their motives and intentions.

The public can nominate someone for an award by filling in a form
Development Update At Fingallians GAA Club Survey and design works for the new all weather pitch at Fingallians GAA club in Swords, have been completed. The project team has secured three competitive bids, which will be submitted to the Department of Sport for review. The club expects to receive formal approval of the preferred bidder from the Department four weeks after they submit, and this will allow agreement a formal start date with the contractor. Ideally, they would like to start work in October and have the new surface in place by the end of November. The works will take four to six weeks to complete and is dependent on weather conditions. During the works, the existing pitch will be fenced off and will be unavailable for use. This disruption is unavoidable; however on completion of the works, Fingallians expect to have one of the best training surfaces in the county.

We believe it is the responsibility of the Commissioner for Aviation Regulation, to implement a determination that allows this to happen,” he said. The Chamber also feel that improvements to Terminal 1 are vital. “Terminal 1 is in need of a major overhaul and

A new masterplan should be drawn up, to allow for the orderly redevelopment of Terminal 1 and its Piers.
