DAA To Bypass Union In Pension Dispute On foot of our front page story last week, regarding the pension problems at Dublin Airport, it has come to light that SIPTU’s Pensions Committee at the Dublin Airport Authority, will not support restructuring proposals. The union has told the company that it will not recommend acceptance of pension restructuring proposals to address the €750 million deficit in the joint Aer Lingus/DAA pension scheme. However, it has emerged that DAA has hit back and has instigated measures that will allow it bypass the trade union, should they fail to reach agreement on a proposed new pension fund.
SIPTU claims DAA employees will come out with worse pension entitlements than Aer Lingus members of the scheme. This, along with the failure to reach
agreement with airport fire and police staff, has become a major stumbling block in the bid to reach a final settlement. The DAA has categorically rejected that claim, arguing that the proposals in the two companies are completely different and cannot be compared.
Workers in Aer Lingus voted to accept restructuring proposals to address the deficit, in their part of the joint pension scheme shared by the airline, the DAA and the Shannon Airport Authority. However, DAA and its unions have not yet finalised arrangements to address their portion of the deficit. SIPTU, which represents a majority of employees at the DAA, has told the company that it’s proposals to address the pension deficit are inadequate, and will not be recommended for acceptance. DAA has now advised the trustee of the troubled IASS pension fund that it will make a once-off lump sum payment available to all eligible staff, for the new defined contribution pension scheme, upon completion of the appropriate waiver form.

Amie’s Cheque for Little Molly Lusk woman, Amie Doyle, who runs a beauty shop in Skerries called Amie’s Beauty Boutique, held a Shave and Dye event at Murray’s Top Shop In Lusk recently. She donated the funds, which amounted to €912 to the Molly McNally Miracle Trust on Friday last. The Molly McNally Miracle Trust was set up to fundraise for the little six year old Balbriggan girl, who is suffering from Stage 4 Neuroblastoma, a rare childhood cancer. Amie has just returned from Jamaica,
where she qualified to compete in the Miss Europe competition. The competition is not the classic beauty contest, and is open to people who have undertaken exceptional fundraising events. Amie was victorious, winning the Miss Europe title. I’m representing four charities this year, as Miss Europe, and I’m delighted that the Molly McNally Miracle Trust is one of them, and I hope to undertake more fundraising for her in the next year,” said Amie. She presented the cheque to Molly’s
father, Gerry at his Balbriggan home, in the presence of little Molly, who was delighted to be the centre of attention. Amie wore her tiara, and Miss Europe sash, which little Molly took a shine to. “I got on amazingly. I won four awards altogether, but the most important one was the Miss Europe award, and I’m delighted to be here today to present a cheque to Gerry, who was very happy to receive it. “Amie has been brilliant and I want to thank her for her continuing support for us,” said Gerry

The route will operate six times per week in August and four times per week for the rest of the summer season, which runs from late March until late October. The airport also announced there would be a new Dublin-Gothenburg route next summer. SAS will fly from Dublin to Gothenburg twice per week in July and August and will operate the new route once a week for the rest of the summer season. Gothenburg will be SAS’s fourth destination from Dublin, as the airline currently serves Copenhagen, Stockholm and Oslo from Dublin Airport. The new Gothenburg service will begin on April 4th 2015 and will operate once a week until June 20th. There will be two flights per week from June 28 until August 15 and the service will operate once a week until the end of summer season in late October.
Donabate Ladies Qualify For Quarter Finals Recently, the Donabate Community College (DCC) Under 16 girls headed down to Ballymastone for their last round-robin game against Rush. The ladies were keen to get a clean-sweep of wins and get to the Quarter Finals undefeated. Rush won the toss and
elected to play with the wind in the second half. This meant that the Donabate team had to come out fighting from the start. Luckily, they had a panel of 20, so they were able to sub on and off to keep momentum going, and headed into the break
with a lead. For the second half, the team scored another three goals against the wind to finish the game 7-11 to Rush’s 3-12. At previous matches, they relied on a few players to score, but this time, the scores came from 11 different players. They are now looking

Swords Cultural Quarter A Step Closer The news that €1 million has been allocated to the regeneration of Swords Castle in the recent County Council budget, has been widely welcomed by local councillors. It is part of funding, which will also benefit Malahide Castle and Newbridge House. This will be seen by many, as a major step forward in creating a Swords Cultural Quarter, which can take advantage of the very optimistic tourism figures, which are being projected for the North County region in the near future. Local councillor, Joe Newman (NP) welcomed the funding and said, “The question of Swords Main Street and Swords Castle was one of the issues, which constantly kept coming up on the doorstep at the
local elections. Many people are very upset at the deterioration of the main street and Castle areas, and I have already made representations at local area meetings to ask for the refurbishment of Swords. I see the €1 million allocated to the castle as the start of the regeneration of the area, so I’m very happy about this allocation,” he said. “I believe that this investment in Swords Castle has the potential to kick start the regeneration of the town, and to create a much needed cultural quarter. I would also like to see a theatre in the town, which is badly needed,” concluded Newman. Swords councillor, Darragh Butler (FF), who is a long-time campaigner for the regeneration of Swords Castle and it’s environs, was equally upbeat about
the funding allocation, when he said, “I am delighted to welcome the investment being made in Swords Castle and the Castle area of Swords, to be known as the Swords Cultural Quarter. Three million euro has been allocated to this project, one million each in 2015, 2016 and 2017, as part of the Fingal Capital Programme and I am really optimistic that real progress is going to be made over the coming years to open up Swords Castle and bring more tourism and business to Swords Main Street. This was a priority issue for me in the recent election, and I am delighted to see real progress being made. The regeneration of Swords Main Street remains a number one objective for me,” he said.

Will The EU Impact On Holiday Entitlement? By Patrick Finnegan Many of us would be thankful for Mario Draghi, President of the ECB, in that he is not JeanClaude Trichet, the author of “those letters” which many see as the trigger for the bailout. The Oireachtas inquiry Committee into the banking crash would like to have the ECB over for a chat. Unfortunately Draghi has said that while the ECB may accept invitations from national government the ECB is answerable to the EU Parliament not national governments. So if the ECB decides to reject the invitation its over to our nine MEPs to ask the questions which the Oireachtas and most of us would like answers to. Last week, the Budget Committee considered

two European Globalisation Fund (EGF) cases, one of which was Andersen of Limerick. Lynn Boylan the Sinn Féin MEP said: “I was particularly delighted that the amendment I introduced was also passed. My amendment will ensure that the training offered to help find or create jobs for those made redundant will not be exclusive (in the same manner as the youth guarantee was) and will include everyone, including disadvantaged groups.” This decision is to be welcomed and now sets a precedent not just for Limerick for how such funds are used. An interesting case in the UK which may have knock on effects of the labour market here in Ireland. The UK’s Employment Appeals Tribunal are due to give a ruling on the interpretation of the EU’s Working Time Directive which also applies here in Ireland. The core question is should overtime hours generate additional holiday entitlement. If they do the cost of overtime may increase by circa eight per cent. Employees may see an immediate gain but employers are likely to reorganise work practices to reduce regular overtime work.

The safety of pedestrians at the junction of the Back Road and Dublin Road, Malahide, was questioned by local Councillor Anthony Lavin (FG) at the latest Council meeting. Lavin asked the Chief Executive, Paul Reid, whether the provision of pedestrian or full traffic control signals could be considered due to the number of new houses being build along the Back Road Kinsealy Land and Streamstown. In their reply, the Council confirmed the junction of the Back Road and the Malahide Road (R107) is a part of the Broomfield Local Area Plan (LAP) and will be one of a number of upgrades. The upgrading of junctions with Kinsealy Lane and The Hill also form part of the Local Area Plan (LAP) and will be delivered in tandem with the development of the LAP lands. “In the meantime, consideration will be given to advancing the provision of signals at the Back Road/Malahide Road junction,” the Council concluded.

Marie Cassidy found that there was no indication of serious injury. At the time of going to press, the deceased had not yet been identified, while the skull has been removed to the city morgue, as the process of identification continues. The services of a forensic anthropologist are being engaged and detectives are checking missing persons files. The scene was sealed off, as garda searches and a forensic examination took place. Gardai say it is too early to speculate on the identity of the victim. The discovery was made by workmen last Thursday.

Lavin Continues To Push For WiFi In Malahide Local Councillor, Anthony Lavin (FG), is continuing to push for a WiFi hotspot in the centre of Malahide. At a recent Council meeting, he asked the Chief Executive, Paul Reid, what progress has been made with the provision for a hotspot, and whether some of the remaining unused phone boxes could be removed. The Council has initiated a project to investigate the provision of free public WiFi in Fingal: “This project aims to facilitate economic growth - particularly in the tourism and retail sectors - by enabling increased access to online services, and will take cognisance of local businesses who provide WiFi services to their customers,” the Council said. An initial pilot is planned for implementation following an assessment of suitable locations, however the Council recognised a number of existing WiFi hotspots are provided by local businesses - including four Eircom hotspots sourced in public phone boxes. “In relation to unused phone boxes, if the question is agreed a letter will issue to Eircom in this regard,” the Council concluded.

Michael Barron, Founding Director of BeLonG To said, “We know that Ireland is ready for this change and that Irish young people really want a fair and equal society. Young people have always been agents for progressive change and now we are reaching out to all young adults aged 18-25 to say – this is your opportunity to create the society the you want – this is your generation’s decision. By registering to vote by 25th November and coming out to vote for civil marriage equality, you will help our country turn over a new leaf and create the modern society that you deserve and can be proud of.” From now until the 25th November deadline, you can change or update your details on the draft register of electors, using a very simple form RFA1 (available from your local post office, public library or local council), you won’t need to visit a Garda station to have the form stamped.

‘Changemaker’ Award For Donabate Students The pupils and staff of Donabate Portrane Educate Together National School (DPETNS) are very proud to be one of only five schools in Ireland to receive a Changemaker School Award from Ashoka Ireland. Changemaker Schools aspire to create a world, where children become empathetic leaders, capable of working together creatively to solve problems and drive change in the world. Ashoka works with these schools to support them alongside businesses, social entrepreneurs, universities, media and across other sectors. In keeping with the Educate Together philosophy, Donabate-Portrane is built around their motto, “learn together to live together,” with diversity and human rights
central to the daily lives of the children in the school. With a strong focus on global citizenship, DPETNS works in partnership with a school in Cambodia, sharing various lessons online including a positive mental health programme developed within the school. With other initiatives such as peer mediation to resolve conflicts and a buddy system devised to help integrate children with autism, the school uses peer-to-peer learning to teach global citizenship and match it with local empathy in action. Another innovative project has been the work the school has done with the students on Positive Mental Health; DPETNS are one of the only primary schools in the country to address this important issue with their students.
Update From Swords Tidy Towns There was some bad news on the horizon for Swords Tidy Towns last week, when they were informed that they were not selected for Coca Cola funding. The group had put a ‘Get Swords Moving’ project together and had hoped to be selected for some funding to get the project off the ground, but it was not to be on this occasion. The judging panel said our programme was highly commendable and well planned, but they felt it was more a ‘civic, heritage, environmental’ project which, unfortunately for us, they were not looking to fund,” explained Swords Tidy Towns Chairperson, Ken Duffy. “However, it was a positive experience for our committee, and we hope to seek funding elsewhere. We made many excellent contacts with community groups with whom we hope to develop further relationships,” he concluded. worthy aspect of the announcement by the CSO is that, in the first nine months of this year, over 100,000 people have left the live register to take up employment. Eamonn Murphy, Swords I don’t think it will be, not with all the charges coming in, how could it be? I was caught for tax, I have to pay that next year, so it’s a diabolical year.

O’Brien Seeks Malahide Casino And Railway Update At the latest Council meeting, local Councillor, Eoghan O’Brien (FF), sought an update on Casino, Malahide and the Fry Model Railway. He asked the Chief Executive, Paul Reid, for a timeframe as to when a transference of ownership of the Casino and Model Railway is likely to happen. The Cllr. O’Brien Council confirmed outstanding legal issues in relation to the acquisition of the Casino building and Fry Model Railway are nearing completion. “Unless further impediments arise, is is anticipated that both purchases will be completed in the very near future,” the Council said. This is good news for the local project, which has experienced significant delays over the last year.
Tom Markham, Swords According to reports it will, but I doubt it. Well the full charges are coming in in January for starts, and people have to save for that. And then Mr Kenny has to make up his mind how much he’s got to rob us in the water charges, so that’s going to be hanging over us.

No I don’t think so, people just don’t have the money. There’s a shortage of money - they just haven’t got it.
Mary McGrath, Garristown Yes, there seems to be more money around, especially in the shops. I don’t know whether people are just being more free with their money.
Barry Sinclair, Swords No, because people haven’t really bought into the fact that austerity may be gone, so I feel they may still be nervous. I don’t see the excitement I usually see at Christmas, I really don’t.
Thomas Smith, Swords No, I suppose it would be worse, because people have got less money in their pocket because of the Government and water rates that kicks in later on.
John Fitzgerald, Whitehall Yes, better. The country is on a bit of an upturn, there’s more money around so people will have more to spend. The M50 is now back to how it was in 2008, so that says there’s going to be more people around, too.

Maybe, I’m not too sure. This year there are a lot more sales, so that’ll definitely make a difference they’ll get more people to come in and buy.
Ethel Geoghegan, Ashbourne Yes, much better; the country is on the up and there’s more people back to work. There’s more people in the shops too - at Halloween the place was packed.
Paddy Caffrey, Swords I would think it would be better, I’m not an expert by no means, but that would be my opinion.

Council Boosts Local Tourism Survey The County Council is working with Fingal Tourism to prepare a review of the tourism industry in the county and come up with new action plan for tourism to run from 2015 to 2018. “There has been a considerable upturn in tourism numbers coming to Ireland in recent years, and this important work will help position North County based businesses, to take maximum advantage
of the ongoing recovery in the industry and allow it to grow and fulfil its significant untapped potential around the locality,” the Council said. Part of this tourism review includes a short online tourism survey inviting the opinions, experience and ideas of residents, employees, tourism businesses and any other stakeholders involved in tourism throughout the North
County. Feedback from the survey will supplement other work taking place with stakeholders and community leaders who will all be asked to work together to help the North County be part of the wider Dublin tourist experience, offering the highest quality venues, services and activities to all visitors to the region. To encourage a good level of response every person who completes the survey will be entered into a draw for one of six €100 One4All vouchers. Ethna Felten, Head of Economic Development Services with the County
Council launched the survey and voucher giveaway today saying “We’re really excited about the work we are doing to increase the economic potential of tourism in the North County,” she said. “The bigger message for local residents,” she continued, “is that along with the chance of winning a nice prize, you also have a valuable opportunity to help to shape the tourist industry, support local jobs, and develop local services and attractions that boost the quality of life of the communities in which you live.”

School Principal, Ms Deeney, welcomed special guest speaker Shaun Quinn, Chief Executive of Fáilte Ireland. He exhorted the students to retain their work ethic, and emphasised a focus on goals as important, but also saw interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence as attributes that will enhance opportunities. The company is offering one gigabit (1,000 megabits per second) connectivity in 66 communities across the country. Included in this rollout will be Swords, Balbriggan, Skerries, Rush, Portmarnock and Malahide. These super fast speeds will be underpinned by ‘end to end’ fibre
connections, through the use of fibre to the home (FTTH) technology. Customer connections will be provided as demand for this connectivity emerges. Customers in these communities can already access broadband speeds of up to 100 Mbps. Many will regard this development as a great boost for businesses in the area, and will be a shot in the arm for inward investment in the locality, which will

Rejection Of DAA Pension Proposals Continued from page 1 DAA Head of Industrial Relations, John McCormack said the trustees of the aviation pension scheme (known as the IASS) have asked whether the DAA will make available proposed lump sums totalling €72 million, as part of the implementation of the revised pension arrangements. This follows news that DAA is likely to see it’s profits jump by 12 per cent to €180 million this year, on the back of an improved Irish economy, according to ratings agency, Standard & Poor’s. The DAA wrote to unions noting the outcome of the Aer Lingus ballot, and that no ballot has yet taken place at the DAA. McCormack noted that the trustee needs to know this in order to proceed with the technical steps required, to progress the revised arrangements with the Pensions Authority. He told unions the DAA has confirmed it will make the lump sums available to all eligible staff. He said, “DAA has taken this decision in the best interests of staff, warning that if the proposals do not proceed as envisaged, and given the tight
timeline, any alternative trustee proposal would be “to the serious disadvantage” of DAA staff members. He reassured unions that management will continue to seek engagement with staff representatives on a collective agreement in the context of the Expert Panel Report. However, SIPTU Pensions Policy Advisor, Dermot O’Loughlin said the SIPTU pensions committee does not believe the DAA’s proposals represent the best outcome that can be achieved through negotiation. He also claimed that DAA workers are coming out with significantly worse pension entitlements under the IASS restructuring than Aer Lingus members of the scheme. The committee queried the assumptions, on which the DAA is basing its calculation of benefits for members, compared to the assumptions used by Aer Lingus, and criticises the level of contributions employers will be making to the new defined benefit pension scheme. He described the proposal to wind up a supplemental pension scheme, known as the Aer
Rianta Supplemental Superannuation Scheme, which is in surplus, as both illogical and unacceptable. There are also outstanding issues regarding retirement ages and fitness tests for airport fire and police staff. O’Loughlin also noted that the DAA has stated that, if the proposals are not accepted by employees in the Shannon Airport Authority before 31st December, when the IASS is wound up, the DAA will be absolved of all responsibility to resolve the pension dispute for DAA employees, who transferred to the Shannon Airport authority on 1st January 2013. He further claims that this will add €15 million to the cost base of the Shannon Airport Authority - and he urged the DAA to extend the duration of their responsibility for their former employees. The trustees of the IASS have already indicated that they will freeze the current scheme on 31st December. Aer Lingus has made available €190.7 million to partially offset the impact of benefit cuts for members.

Chief Executive Buoyant After Inaugural Budget Continued from page 1 Reid alluded to this when he said, “All evidence suggests that Dublin, as a city breaks destination, is booming and we need to build on that and factor in the great attractions the North County has to offer, and to encourage these visitors to spend some of that time in our area,” he said. As an extra boost to tourism in the area, upgrade works are planned for Malahide and Newbridge Demesnes, at a cost of €500,000. Better community facilities are planned, with €300,000 being allocated for this, as well as €500,000 for better public lighting. Another major investment sees €2.8m extra spending on housing and building, which is set to boost local employment in the area. The chief executive was positive about the economic outlook, and said, “I reminded councillors that the signs of economic recovery are very real and very welcome, and beginning to be evident locally. Exports are up and ahead of expectations”, he said. “Employment is up and unemployment will fall below 10 per cent next year.” He continued, “More businesses are operating in the North County region today, and only last week LEO Fingal approved €250,000 in funding to new business, creating 23 new jobs immediately and 43 jobs next year. Planning applications are up by 25 per cent and the construction industry is reemerging with 30 active residential building sites in the local area,” he said. Reid was keen to point out that the Council remains a business focused local authority. “We cut commercial rates through the recession and our rates are still the most favourable in Dublin. We stay focused on job creation and this will be the key to our economic recovery. LEO Fingal and our Economic Development Services team are working hard with new and growing businesses, local Chambers of Commerce, and those who are investing in and growing companies right across the North county to maintain and secure our return to prosperity in the region,” he said. On a personal note, he paid tribute to the work and commitment of Council staff, County Mayor Mags Murray and the newly elected councillors, who worked hard to develop and agree a strong budget for 2015.

5. During the Christmas of 2010, the Colombian government covered jungle trees with lights. When FARC guerrillas (terrorists) walked by, the trees lit up and banners asking them to lay down their arms became visible. 331 guerrillas re-entered society and the campaign won an award for strategic marketing excellence. 6. In 1647, the English parliament passed a law making Christmas illegal. The Puritan leader Oliver Cromwell, who considered feasting and revelry on what was supposed to be a holy day to be immoral, banned the Christmas festivities. The ban was lifted only when Cromwell lost power in 1660. 7. Giving presents was once banned by the Catholic Church. It was believed that gift giving was connected to paganism.

Santa has his own postal code, H0H 0H0 -with zeros instead of the letter ‘o’ it’s in Canada where postal codes are alphanumeric. Letters – the kind that bypass parents – used to end up undelivered because there was no centralised address for Santa Claus. For the past 30 years, Canada Post volunteers have been helping Santa reply to a million letters from children around the world. 10. Many publications like to print the innocuous sounding “Xmas” to prevent them from scaring away any non-Christian customers. The true origin of it comes from Greece. The letter “X” is the first letter of Christ, and “Xmas” has been used as an abbreviation for Christmas since the mid 1500s. So, Xmas doesn’t delete the Christ from Christmas

It’s important that when we prepare our homes this winter, they are as cosy, energy efficient and safe as possible ready to protect us from the extreme winter weather. Remembering to turn off electric fires or blankets and extinguish candles or open flames could save your life or home this winter, but there a few more things you should check before winter hits, and it’s too late. It’s also good to ensure your car is in top shape inside and out, so you can be fully prepared and ready before the really harsh weather kicks in.
weather. Regular boiler maintenance and annual servicing will make sure your boiler is running with top efficiency and won’t pack in on you when you need it most. Fit a carbon monoxide detector so you know if you have a leak, and check the amount of oil you have left in your tank. Fill the tank at the end of summer, or as soon as you can if you haven’t already, so you don’t run out in the middle of winter. Clean out water scale from your tank too, and make sure the outside flues are clear.

been left unchanged. In addition, the NTA have conducted a review of fares, with the view of removing some of the confusion that surrounds irregular fares and pricing. They have also kept fare increases to a minimum on the Leap card, when compared to cash as a part of their continued effort to increase the use of the card, and public transport, by providing a simpler and more streamlined service. Gerry Murphy CEO of the Authority said: “Before the end of the year, the Authority will introduce a second-journey-discount on Dublin Bus Leap Card fares (which will be further rolled out to cover all PSO operators in 2015). This will reduce the cash penalty currently paid by a person who is required to change buses to make their trip from A to B.”
Changes To Public Transport Fares Announced The 2015 fares for Luas and CIÉ companies (Dublin Bus, Bus Éireann and Iarnród Éireann) have been released by The National Transport Authority (NTA). The report, which will be of great interest to local transport users around the North County, covers both monthly and annual tickets, cash fares, Leap Card fares and pre-paid tickets. A large improvement is in the simplification of cash and leap card fares. Currently, there are eight different types of both adult cash and adult Leap fares. This has been almost halved to four adult Leap fare types and five cash for the 2015 year. The Leap daily and weekly caps have
Watch Out For Rodents This Winter The recovery of the construction sector has caused an increase in rodent related call outs, company Rentokil have said. The company has noticed an increase in household callouts and are now experiencing construction related callouts, too with the recovery of the construction industry and growth in residential housing projects around the North County, rodents are being disturbed from the sewers and drains. The company has
Joe Barnwall from Balbriggan celebrated his 40th birthday, with a fancy dress party, with the theme of super heroes and villains. The party was held in the Bracken Court Hotel, Balbriggan last week. Joe (in centre) is pictured enjoying the night, with his family and friends
advised residents around the locality to be on the lookout for rodents at this time of year. Rodents can be a danger to our health - not only do they carry fleas, mites and ticks, rats are known to carry a variety of diseases, including Salmonella, Weil’s disease, Ecoli and TB. Bacteria can be spread through their droppings and can contaminate food and other materials, and mice have even been identified as a potential asthma trigger in children. Now is the time to prepare your home against a potential rodent infestation, according to the company. Rodents like warmth, quiet, and a source of food, so it is important to keep household waste in closed bins, and where possible, store food items in sealable glass or metal
containers, regularly cleaning under cupboards and appliances. Young rodents can get through holes less than 1 cm, so ensure all holes and cracks in the walls, ceiling or floors are sealed – no matter how small. When sealing, use materials rodents can’t gnaw through, such as steel wool or caulk – don’t use wood or plastic. Finally, ensure your pipe work is in working order to prevent rodents coming up from sewers, and keep clutter to a minimum to reduce opportunities for nesting sites. There are a couple of signs to look out for if you think you have a rodent problem, the most obvious being scratching noises, droppings, damage and ripped food packaging. Rodents also leave a distinctive ammonia-like smell and build nests in warm, hidden spaces; lay flour alongside skirting boards if you’re suspicious of a nest – you’ll notice track marks in a couple of days if a nest is nearby.

the Emergency Services are joining forces to urge local people to consider their behaviour on the roads as a mark of respect to those who have lost their lives on our roads. Masses, services and commemoration events will also take place around the locality on the weekend of the 16th November to remember the lives that have been lost on our roads. A service is being held in Clarendon Street Church Dublin (just off Grafton St), at 12:30pm on Sunday 16th November to remember road victims. There will be a there will be a choir and lighting of candles at the ceremony at the service. In addition, the RSA will have a ‘Wall of
Remembrance’ on its Facebook page. The Wall of Remembrance is a place for people to come and share their memories, to light a candle and leave a memorial message for a loved one who has been killed or seriously injured on our roads. Since it was set up three years ago, over 1500 people have posted messages in memory of their loved ones. Moyagh Murdock, Chief Executive of the Road Safety Authority told the
County Leader: “World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims’ gives us an opportunity to remember those who have died on our roads and the families, friends and communities who have been devastated by their loss. We can save lives on our roads, and we can make our roads as safe as the safest roads in the world, but we can’t do it unless we all work together and take responsibility for our behaviour on the roads,” she said.
