Local Companies At Cutting Edge Of Success The growth of Swords and the greater North County area, has propelled North County Dublin into being one of the most desirable places to live in the entire country. Much of this comes from the success, both national and international of local companies that have made headlines in the past few weeks.

By Patrick Finnegan The continuing success of companies, like Swords based Ryanair and Lusk based Country Crest, are just two examples of local companies expanding and providing much needed employment in the area. Recently, Country Crest announced the creation of 100 new jobs, while the continuing success of Europe’s largest airline, Ryanair is a phenomenon. Other signs of the growth of the region include the proposal to build an airport style city, adjacent to the city, which is expected to have a hugely beneficial effect on the area. Michael Greene, of

Shane Redmond Auctioneers in Swords confirmed that things are ‘on the up’ where property, both domestic and residential is concerned. He said, “We have been successful in letting properties in the Plaza and Swords is proving to be a very popular place in the property market. There are a lot of companies looking to set up in Swords. The over supply of commercial buildings is coming to an end and it’s time to start building again,” he said. Europe’s largest airline, Ryanair has upgraded its full year profit forecast by 25 per cent, as a result of stronger than expected peak summer traffic and prices. Ryanair reported half Auctioneer Michael Greene yearly traffic growth of 13 per cent, while fares were up over 2 per cent. The news of the opening of more routes, most recently to Amsterdam,

Walsh Back On Aer Lingus Board IAG Chief Executive and former Donabate resident, Willie Walsh has been appointed as a director of Aer Lingus, the company he left 11 years ago, to become boss of British Airways. His appointment comes after a major shake-up at the airline, which has seen most of the existing board being replaced. A raft of resignations at the company, including those of chairman, Colm Barrington and Laurence Crowley, a former governor of Bank of Ireland, as well as most of the old guard, sees Walsh appointed to the board of directors. Mr Barrington’s term as

chairman was set to expire later this year. Fifty-three year old Walsh, who was previously appointed as a director of the airline in 2001, when he became chief executive told the County Leader, that becoming a director of his former company, was very satisfying to him. He said, “We are delighted to have Aer Lingus as part of IAG and I’m personally pleased to be back on the Aer Lingus board.” He resigned from Aer Lingus in 2004, upon his appointment as Chief Executive of British Airways. Stephen Kavanagh, the Aer Lingus Chief Executive will remain on as a director and it is expected that he will head up the airline for its new position within IAG.

provides locals with great choice, and further emphasises the appeal of Swords and the greater North County area as an ideal place to live. The news that Dublin Airport will need a second runway to cope with its growth, is another reflection of the success of the airport and the huge contribution it is making to, not only the North County and Swords, but to the entire country. The likelihood of Dublin Airport being used by fellow IAG airline, British Airways, as a hub for more transatlantic flights, particularly from the UK, is very real. Also feeding into this, is the fact that Dublin Airport provides transatlantic clearance for passengers. Siobhan O’Donnell, External Communications Manager at DAA told the County Leader, “We are currently examining the various options regarding the delivery of a second parallel runway at Dublin Airport, but have not yet made a final decision in relation to this issue. A second parallel runway has been part of the overall development plan for Dublin Airport for several decades and we’re fortunate that land was earmarked for this project many years ago within the overall Dublin Airport campus. The various options relating to its developSiobhan O’Donnell, DAA ment will be carefully considered before the company makes a final decision on the best way forward and a second runway remains a central element of Dublin Airport’s long-term plans.” “Dublin Airport is committed to engaging with our local communities in relation to this issue and we will be seeking their opinion through a full consultation process at the appropriate time,” she said. There is evidence of tremendous new growth, particularly in Swords. A new Intreo office is due to open in Swords in the near future. The Employment and Support Services centre will be located adjacent to County Hall. This is a new service from the Department of Social Protection which will help with employment and income support services needs. Intreo will provide a

personalised service, based on individual needs. The existing Social Welfare office on North Street is due for relocation to Mainscourt, off Main Street in the town. The office space is currently being fitted out by the Office of Public Works, to be handed over to the Department of Social Protection. it is expected that the Department of Social Protection office in Mainscourt, Swords will be open in the coming months, according to a spokesperson. Remembrance Rose Garden Blooms In Malahide A special Rose Garden of Remembrance was recently opened in Seabury in Malahide. It is a garden where people can go to reflect and plant a rose to honour a lost loved one. The memorial garden was a collaborative project between the Seabury Tidy District Group and the County Council. Local man and chairman of the Seabury Tidy District Group, Philip Lynch was behind the project, and he told the County Leader how the idea came about.

By Jennifer McShane “We originally were going to place two commemorative seats in the park at Old Yellow Walls Road In Malahide, dedicated to Laura Brennan and Paul Connell, but following advice from Paul McDonnell from the County Council, it was decided it would be better to have a place where everyone could go to remember their loved ones and we came up with the idea of a rose garden,” Lynch said.

“We just want to give a special mention to the County Council who donated all the roses, and in particular Paul McDonnell who worked tirelessly with us all the way,” he added. The garden was officially opened last weekend and “it took on a life of its own,” according to Lynch. “We couldn’t believe how many got behind the garden and the project, it was just fantastic.” Around 70 attended the opening, as well as Councillor Anthony Lavin, who deputised as the County Mayor and many from the community who wanted to plant a rose to remember a loved one. The Seabury Tidy District Group, have alongside the local Tidy Towns group, been working constantly throughout the year on various projects to ensure Seabury and the surrounding area of Malahide looks its very best and Lynch wanted to give a special mention to all the volunteers who give selflessly give their time to help. “We couldn’t to any of this without our volunteers,” he continued. “They are the people who are always working away behind the scenes and should be commended for their incredible work.” He also mentioned that the Seabury group are in the early stages of planning what they hope will be a memorial day for the locality in 2016.

Snowflakes Group Enjoys Minister’s Hospitality Snowflakes Autism Support recently took up an invitation that had been extended to them by the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Dr James Reilly and his wife, Dorothy, to spend a day at their home at Loughton House, Moneygall, Co. Offaly. With the support of local transport company, Swords Express, who very generously donated two coaches for the journey, a group of over 70 Snowflakes members embarked on the trip to Moneygall, the ancestral

home of Barack Obama. Upon arrival at Loughton House, the group were met with a beautiful lunch spread, provided by Dorothy Reilly and her everwilling helpers, Jamie and Tiernan. After lunch, Dorothy took the children on an adventure trail through the woods, where they encountered lots of surprises. This was followed by plenty of fun and games in the grounds of the house, including egg and spoon races, frisbee throwing, a penalty-kick competition, bubble-catching and a game

of football between the boys and the girls, which finished in a draw. After a break for refreshments, the group went for a walk in the beautiful walled-garden with Minister Reilly, after which, it was time to go home. For those lucky enough to be there, it was yet another fantastic Snowflakes day out! Chairman of Snowflakes, Robert Brown said, “On behalf of all our members, the Snowflakes committee would like to thank Dorothy and Minister Reilly and their family for their hospitality and would also like to thank Sinéad, Tomasz and Paul in Swords Express for making this magical day possible.”

Nothing Fishy About Local Angling Competition The inaugural Fingal Small Boat Competition, which took place last Sunday from Howth was a fantastic success with all 30 anglers from Balbriggan, Rush and Howth recording huge scores of quality fish. Fishing within the parameters of Dublin Bay, to Kish Lighthouse, to Lambay Island in Skerries, the highlight of the day was the catching of the 69 thornback ray and 67 smooth hounds plus eight additional species all caught and released. Phenomenal fishing by any standards. At the prizegiving in Howth Angling Centre it was announced the event will go ahead again next year plus a combined shore event. Howth SAC is also holding a tackle auction evening on Friday, 18th September in the clubhouse from 8pm. All welcome.

Drug And Alcohol Task Force Needs Funding The North Dublin Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force was delighted to welcome the Minister of State with Responsibility for the Drugs Strategy, Aodhain O’Riordain to their office in Swords last week. Minister O’Riordain called in to meet with members of the Task Force, the North Dublin Community Care Service and a range of their community partners, to hear about some of the successes and indeed the challenges experienced by the hard working team. The Minister was given an overview of the Task Force’s work by the Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force coordinator, Brid

the Minister, who took questions from the audience and explored some of the key challenges with providing effective supports for

people with problem drug and alcohol use in the region. Members talked with the Minister about the need to focus services on all drugs, not just opiates and to include alcohol in a much more meaningful way in the discourse on drug problems, partic-

ularly as it is the primary drug problem for many people in the area. Other areas explored on the day, included the need for evidence based early intervention, with high risk young people, supports for women with addiction issues

HPV Vaccine Support Group Launched A new national support group and website has been officially launched for girls suffering from the reported effects of the HPV vaccine ‘Gardasil.’ This follows on from our recent story on the vaccine, where a number of families in the North County claimed that their daughters have experienced life changing effects. These include persistent headaches, sore throats, joint and/or muscle pains, memory impairment, menstrual problems, heart problems, seizures, auto immune illnesses, chronic fatigue, depression and psychiatric illness, other unexplained illnesses since being injected with the vaccine in their first year at secondary school. The support group, known as REGRET (Reactions and Effects of Gardasil Resulting in Extreme Trauma) are compiling a register, and according to them, they have already identified over 90

Irish schoolgirls and young women who are now experiencing life-changing health problems as an apparent result of the shot. The REGRET parents say they have identified similar symptoms in their daughters, to those suffered by girls in other countries where the vaccine has been introduced. “We firmly believe there is a link between the HPV vaccine, Gardasil and the experience of our daughters who are now trying to cope with life changing illnesses,” said spokesperson Kiva Murphy from Swords. “More and more parents are contacting us every week, and we now want to inform the Departments of Health, Education and the HSE about the extent of these previously unidentified health problems and get support for our daughters,” she said. “We are asking parents in this and every county nationwide to contact us if their daughter

has any of the problems associated with this vaccination. We can be contacted through our website,” she added. The County Leader contacted the HSE to find out if there was a safety issue surrounding the Gardasil vaccine. A spokeswoman said, “Each year in Ireland around 300 women are diagnosed with cervical cancer and 100 die from the disease. All cervical cancers are linked to high risk Human Papillomavirus (HPV) types.”. “Gardasil has been found to be over 99 per cent effective in preventing pre- cancerous lesions associated with HPV types 16 and 18 in young women aged 16-26 years. Gardasil is considered safe and well tolerated.” The HSE claim that there is no evidence of long term sequelae to Gardasil, and the REGRET group notes that, although no direct link has so far been definitively proven between any specific illness and this vaccine, they say the medical literature shows mounting evidence of the neurotoxic effects of certain ingredients used in the vaccine.

and a wide emphasis on the importance of having community based supports. It was noted that the Community Care Service does not have the resources for a base in Balbriggan currently, despite the high level of need. The North Dublin Community Care Service is run by the Task Force, with Vince Rellis responsible for the day to day service delivery to clients by the Case Workers. “We opened the doors for clients last summer and in the first couple of weeks, we went to visit agencies to let them know they could start referring. Referrals came flooding in and haven’t stopped. Some days we get seven or eight referrals in the one day,” according to Vince. Brid talked about the challenges of running a frontline service that covers such a large

area, right up to Balbriggan. “I want to thank everyone in the room for their continued efforts and energy in “working alongside us and helping us to stretch the limited resources we have to get the best possible outcomes for the community of the North County,” she said. Cllr Jimmy Guerin, who is a current member of the North Dublin

Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force was very emphatic about his appreciation of the volume of work that is being done by the Task Force. He took it a step further and put it to the Minister that even a ‘miniscule investment of €100,000’ by the Minister would provide two more Case Workers to the team of three, which would mean hundreds more people in the area could be helped.

New Benches For Donabate Two new benches are to be installed in Donabate. Local councillor Adrian Henchy (FF), has asked for an update on the installation of more benches in the Donabate and Portrane area, which he said will benefit the senior citizens in the area. The senior citizens and the Tidy Towns were both consulted on the process. Henchy also asked to specifically look at installing a second bench adjacent to St Patrick’s Church in Donabate, with a modern community style notice board, and to consider locating the current bench further back into the green space for health and safety reasons. The Council responded by saying that, “Consultations have been held with various community groups in Donabate and it has been agreed to install two additional benches in the area this year, one at the green on the new road near the recent rose plantings and one on the cliff walk at an appropriate location near to the Tower View car park.” “The open space beside the church is not in the charge of the County Council,” they added. “Permission from the parish priest was obtained by the seniors group for the existing bench. The location of the existing bench was examined and no health and safety issues were identified.”

Empire Scoops Top Award Empire, the newest addition to the Swords bar and restaurant scene, scooped the prestigious award of Leinster Bar of the Year at the Sky Bar of the Year Awards in the Mansion House recently. It was whittled down to 70 bars to battle it out on the night and Empire faced some stiff competition in their category. The Sky Bar of the Year Awards have recognised the excellent bars, knowledgeable staff, high quality service, and innovation in the bar trade for 10 years. From long established traditional local pubs to up and coming new arrivals, the Sky Bar of the Year Awards is the ultimate stamp of approval for the best of the best in the licensing industry. The Sky Bar of the Year Awards are dedicated to raising the profile of the licensed trade and reminding consumers of the excellent service and quality that exists within the licensed trade. Empire Swords opened its doors on the 4th December 2014 and has received this award after just nine months of trading. General manager, Jerry Harrington was thrilled at winning the award. He said, “We’ve come to

the market with a vision we have had for our customers. We have the most beautiful lay-out and interiors, as good as you will find in New York or London. Our menus are changed every day with great specials. We have marvellous staff here at Empire, up to 70 members, working across all the sectors of Empire. Our marvellous marketing manager, Avril Kelly-Carter has put us on the map, and she is great to work with. We have another floor to build upstairs, 10,000 sq feet and work will commence during the second week in January. president of Donabate Golf Club. He said that Donabate would be delighted to give us the course for the day, provided that I could organise a golf classic. This was all new to me, but we took it on full tilt and today we have 28 teams out in glorious weather. We also had an evening buffet and entertainment and dancing, which proved to be a great success,” he said.

When all monies are collected, the hope is that between €6000 and €7000 will have been collected as a result of this golf classic, something that Robert is particularly pleased about. “This is massive for us and we have a few projects in mind. One of our first priorities is to subsidise therapies for some of the children. At present we subsidise occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, play therapy for children, and we’re looking to extend that, which will cover us for

next year. We’re hoping to cover more children, so this money will go a long way to providing for this,” said Robert. “Our membership has increased to 140 children at present, from all across the North County, and we have to look after them,” he said. Next up for Snowflakes will be their annual Black Tie Gala Ball at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Santry on 28th November, which has been fully booked out in four weeks and should prove to be a real success for this excellent charity.

Gender Recognition Act Goes Live

A Moment On the Lips...

A major landmark has been reached, as the Gender Recognition Act comes into being. It has become possible for the first time for transgender persons to apply to be recognised in their true gender, as the Department of Social Protection publishes the application forms for obtaining an official Gender Recognition Certificate. That certificate will then enable trans persons to obtain a birth certificate in their preferred gender. Michael Farrell, senior solicitor with FLAC (Free Legal Advice Centres), which has represented Dr Lydia Foy in her

lengthy legal battle to be recognised in her female gender, commented: “This is a tremendous achievement for Lydia Foy, 22 years after she first applied for a new birth certificate, so she could be officially recognised in the gender in which she lives every day. It is a great day too for the whole transgender community, who will benefit from Lydia’s long battle. It is a good day for Ireland, which was for so long so rigid and intolerant on gender related issues. With the Marriage Equality referendum and the Gender Recognition Act,

15.09.2015 we have taken two great steps forward this summer towards becoming a kinder and more compassionate society,” he said. Ms Foy said “I am delighted that I can begin the process of obtaining a birth certificate that shows me as the person I am – 23 years after I first asked for it. I am also proud that my case has opened the way for a new generation of Trans young persons, who will not have to go through the pain and suffering that an older generation had to endure just so that we could be ourselves,” she said. “There is more to be done, but now a major step forward has been taken in breaking down long-standing walls of prejudice and lack of understanding,” Mr Farrell concluded.

Two more shades of varying intensity: a dark plum and a chocolate brown with a cool sophistication. Play with the combination of couture colours by working in a clockwise motion: top left is the gold, base shade; highlight under the brow with the lilac; build in the crease with the two shades at the bottom of the palette – the dusky pink and the brown; and line with the dark plum in the centre of the palette. The palette is the perfect pairing for Couture Kajal but equally each of the softer colours can be worn on their own as a wash, or the darker shades can be worn individually for a stronger look.

The Development Plan will influence strategic priorities for the county including; supporting plans for private and social housing; economic growth, supporting business across all segments; developing the area as a hub for key business clusters; tourism; building sustainable communities; transport; communications; power and water. In his closing comments, Paul Reid added: “The review presents an opportunity to shape the future growth of the North County and to build on our previous successes and our strategic advantage as a county. It will aim to ensure that we maximise the strengths of our citizens, communities, built and natural heritage, infrastructure and tourism to their full potential.” He continued: “The North County is in the unique position of being part of Dublin, whilst also maintaining its distinctive difference and competitive advantages, it is vitally important that the Development Plan recognise our potential within the region and develop a county that is a great place, to live, work, rear a family, grow old, visit and to do business.”

A will is probably one of the most important documents during your lifetime, especially if you want to leave some of your inheritance to a special person or organisation. In conjunction with solicitors in the North County, the Citizens Information Service has negotiated a special “reduced” rate for wills written with solicitors during this month. Development Manager, Andrew McCann said, “I believe it is our role to ensure the public can make an informed decision on the wishes of their inheritance, and to whom they wish to leave it. By promoting this issue you can gain valuable information and / or seek independent legal opinion (from local solicitors), at a specially reduced rate during this month only. For some, this may provide peace of mind and clarify any misunderstandings,” he said. So what is a will, and what is required? A will is a simple document which must be in writing (not on CD or DVD) clearly stating the wishes of that person regarding their estate / assets in the case of their death. The document must be signed and witnessed by 2 people. It is advisable that the witnesses be independent. If the witnesses are beneficiaries, the will is still valid, although the beneficiaries may lose out if they

are to gain from the will. You may decide to change your will as many times as you like, but it is very important to either destroy the old one, or amend the original (codicil). So when should you change your will? If you marry or register a civil partnership, and you had a will when you were single, this will automatically become void. If you legally separate (subject to your separation agreement), you may need to change your will, or if divorce, you are no longer spouses / civil partners for the purpose of inheritance.

So why should I make a will? If you do not make a will, your estate is divided automatically under the rules of intestacy (natural succession rights). If there are no surviving relatives, and you have no will, your inheritance goes to the State. All questions pertaining to wills including gay marriage, civil partnerships and tax implications are answered along with a list of solicitors in your area providing a discounted “special” rate for the wills month only. Copies of the pack are available from your local Citizens Information Centre.

European Court Ruling Set To Increase Labour Costs The cost of getting that washing machine fixed may be about to increase considerably, due to the European Court of Justice. The Court’s recent

By Cathal Boland ruling in respect of staff employed by a Spanish security company, has ruled that time spent travelling to the site of the first and last jobs of the day, for those who do not have a fixed location, must be counted as part of their normal working day. So, if the service technician travels on average an hour between the repair site and their home each day, this would increase their working week by ten hours. This on a standard forty hour week will put them in breach of the working time directive, which limits the working week to an average of 48 hours. If the travel time is worked into an eight

15.09.2015 hour day, this will increase the labour bill by 33 per cent. Should an agreement be made between employees and their employers to place this travel time outside the normal working day, for the purpose of calculating wages, it will have an impact on how the working day is organised and impact on statutory breaks etc. It may also give rise to additional annual holiday entitlement. The ruling is bound to cause many problems across the EU, not only for employers but also for consumers. Decisions such as this will be used widely in the In Out UK referendum due next year. On the UK, I noted that the political establishment, journalists included, have decided that a victorious Jeremy Corbyn must change his social media style. They want him to adopt a broader, more professional, more conventional media strategy. Imagine they want a guy who was a no hoper, who used social media to change the contest, to now conform to a standard they, the political elite, are comfortable with. This, despite his ability to engage with the general public and get many of them to join the Labour Party.

Search On For Local ‘Silver Surfers’ Nominations have opened for this year’s Silver Surfers Awards as Age Action searches for people around the North County over the age of 50 who are getting online and mastering new technologies. Although as many as 70 per cent of older people don’t use the internet, our ‘Silver Surfers’ have overcome the challenge of learning something new and are now expert googlers, skypers and tweeters. Whether it’s keeping in touch with grandchildren overseas, paying bills,

starting your own blog or researching your passion, the aim is to highlight the achievements of the over 50s throughout the locality and in Ireland. One of last year’s winners, 86-year-old Paddy Crean, said: “I was amazed by all the different contributions to technology from different Silver Surfers, from finding crochet patterns online to writing stories for grandchildren to setting up online book clubs.” Eamon Timmins, CEO of Age Action, added: “Last year we had more nominations than ever

before and we hope to top this in 2015. “The Silver Surfer awards are a great way to show an older relative or friend your appreciation and we’re urging everyone right across the North County who knows a great silver surfer to nominate them.” All nominees will be invited to the Awards Ceremony in October. Nominations can be made online. Closing date for nominations is Sunday, 4th October. The winners will be announced at an Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, 20th October at The Helix Theatre, DCU.

‘Up For The Match’ At St Finian’s GAA Club With the countdown for the eagerly awaited All-Ireland Football final between Dublin and Kerry this Sunday, well underway, there is a further reason for excitement in River Valley. The reason is that RTE will visit St Finian’s GAA club this Wednesday. A spokesperson for the club said, “We just got exciting news that RTE wish to come to our club this week to do an item for the ever popular, “Up For The Match” programme. The producers of the show will be visiting on Wednesday evening at 5pm and want to see lots of members, decked out in their county colours, to discuss how they are supporting their county in the upcoming AllIreland Final,” he said. The programme will be shown on Saturday evening, the day before the final. This is a wonderful chance for everyone to turn out in their colours and shout support for their chosen team. Up the Dubs.

Local Companies At Cutting Edge Of Success Continued from page 1 The Intreo office will provide a “one-stop shop” for jobseekers in the North County, bringing together the services and supports previously provided by three distinct State services – the Department of Social Protection, the Community Welfare Service, and the training agency, FAS. It is hoped that the integration of the three services will lead to greater efficiencies and will provide a better service for the Department’s customers. However, the good news for the region is not just confined to the airport and

Swords. The recent news that 100 jobs have been created in a new food plant in Lusk by Ballymaguire Foods, a Country Crest company. The new positions are estimated to be worth just over €4m a year to the local economy. Country Crest currently employs 150 people in Lusk and is the largest producer of chilled ready meals for retailers in Ireland. Top end restaurants and pubs now view the North County as a place to set up business, and their location here is playing a crucial role in making the area one of the most desirable places to live.

Driving A “Must” For Graduate Jobs In a survey of second and third level students and graduates carried out by Enterprise Rent-A-Car, 86 per cent of respondents said driving is an important skill to have for employability. Out of those surveyed, 52 per cent had already applied for a job where it was a requirement to have a full driving licence, while 42 per cent felt their inability to drive had diminished their employment opportunities in the past. However, more than four out of five respondents do not think enough importance is placed on learning to drive in secondary schools and universities. Less than half of those surveyed said they had learned to drive at the national legal age of 17, and just under one third of respondents had taken the test at the age of

18. The survey also revealed that third level students are now learning to drive at a younger age than those who graduated prior to 2010. The most common reason behind learning to drive is independence followed by the fact that is “a good skill to have,” according to the statistics. This research comes at a crucial time when more and more companies require their graduate employees to have a full driving licence, according to Leslee O’Loughlin, Group Human Resources Manager at Enterprise Rent-a-Car. “As the class of 2015 get ready to take the next step on the education ladder, they will be assessing all the options open to them and the skills they may require in their future endeavours. It is important for students to understand the value driving has as a skill and how much emphasis is put on this skill in the career they wish to pursue. By not being able to drive many candidates are ruling themselves out of a number of positions before the application process has even begun,” she said.

Launch of Dog Microchipping Awareness Month Dogs Trust, Ireland’s dog welfare charity has launched details of their Nationwide Microchipping Awareness campaign. The campaign will see the charity microchip up to 116 dogs a day, free of charge, across the North County and beyond, this month. This national campaign will coincide with new Government legislation which will come into effect from this month, meaning all puppies must be microchipped and registered on an approved database before they are moved from their birth home. Adult dogs will have until 31st March 2016 to be microchipped and owners must obtain certification to prove the dog has been chipped. Hospital (€2,000) and Hand in Hand based in Galway (€2,000) which helps the families’ of young cancer patients. The Jack & Jill Foundation, which has assisted 462 families throughout the North County and beyond since 1997 and is currently supporting 58 families in the county, will receive € 10,000 which will fund 625 hours of nursing care and support for children with severe neurological development

Speaking about the upcoming deadline for dog microchipping, Mark Beazley, Executive Director at Dogs Trust Ireland said “Dog owners around the North County need to be very vigilant over the next number of months in anticipation of this new law. Under the new law, you will be required to not only have your dog microchipped, but to ensure your details as the owner are up to date with a Government approved database. Dog owners must ensure the correct data for their dog is registered or their microchip is essentially useless. We have led the national microchipping campaign for many years now and have seen huge progress in responsible dog ownership as a result.”
