Flower looming is an offshoot of the more complex Tenerife lace that was popular in the 19th century. Flower loomed motifs usually have very little embroidery on them, often only a small amount which holds the webbing together in the centre. Occasionally more embroidery, pom-poms or buttons or other embellishments are used to decorate the centre. Learn to make 5 flower motifs using the Clover Flower Loom. Basic written instructions along with colour illustrations are included to guide you through winding, darning and making decorative stitches for each flower. Once you've mastered the flowers, the authors have included 5 beautiful accessory designs each of which include 1 or 2 of the 5 flower motifs.

Key Selling Points Includes how to flower loom instructions and 5 flowers to make Flowers and designs are made using lace-, light- and worsted-weight yarns Learn how to make these beautiful accessories from the experts

AMY FRIEND

Create unique improvisationally based block designs using the traditional paper piecing methods and use them to build repeatable patterns just like traditionally pieced quilts. As the first to explore the possibilities of this technique, Amy Friend shows quilters how to introduce the repetition of an improv sketch that results in secondary patterns. This repetition of shape causes the eye to move across the quilt top and creates unity instead of the chaotic jumbled appearance found in some improv piecing. The book is divided into three sections where the blocks are designed based on traditional blocks, shapes, and objects. Because new techniques are best understood after following a pattern, each of those is illustrated with 3 quilts. Although 12 patterns are included for those who want to use this as a pattern book, the goal is to teach others how to design their own blocks using this exciting modern technique.

Key Selling Points - Sophisticated technique-based book for modern quilters - Includes 12 patterns to get you started with the process - Precision paper piecing patterns included

About The Author Amy Friend is an award-winning quilter and former museum collections curator. A member of the Modern Quilt Guild, Amy has an online pattern shop and many of her patterns have been published in magazines. She lives in New England with her husband and three children. duringquiettime.com

ELISABETH WOO, NICHOLE RAMIREZ

If you are like authors Nichole and Elisabeth, your favorite part of quilting is fussy cutting – and it usually involves figuring out how to enhance an interesting quilt block by framing a favorite element in your most-loved fabric! Let fussy cutting become more than just showing a single design. By following along with how to create drastically different samplers from each of their 48 unique patchwork blocks, see how those same 9'' blocks can easily be adapted to your own personal taste. Compare their blocks (and their samplers!) side by side and get inspired to use the fabrics you love to create your own sampler blocks. Learn how to navigate those pesky stripes, how to work with either a limited palette or an eclectic scrappy one, and how to incorporate improvisational piecing to fussy cut even the smallest parts of your favorite designs. Plenty of clear illustrations and how-to photographs will guide you through each of the lessons.|

Key Selling Points - Each block is pieced in two versions to see the possibilities of each block design - Feature your favorite fabrics using precision cutting techniques - There are clear examples of the correct way to piece a block, along with the 'wrong' way

About The Author In 2003, Nichole began her quilt-making journey by teaching herself how to make a baby quilt from online tutorials. She is a charter member of the LAMQG and her quilt designs have been published in Quilt Scene, Quilty and Modern Patchwork. Elisabeth Woo began fabric collecting years before she even started quilting. Her quilts have hung in the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and at local county fairs.|
