GAME PREVIEW Moanalua Menehunes

L

VS

ast week, the Seariders were welcomed back home to Raymond Torii Field by fans who waited almost two years for football. Both the JV and varsity gave the fans what they wanted and brought home a win against the Farrington High School Governors. The win was exciting start to the season that has Searider Nation feeling good about the season to come. “We’re off to a good start, so you know any time you beat Farrington, it’s a good win,” Athletic Director Glenn Tokunaga said. Now, the Seariders are hoping that they can keep that momentum going as they prepare to face off against the Moanalua Menehune. Last season the 5 and 5 Menehune put up little fight against the passing attack of Searider quarterback Kekoa Kaluhiokalani who threw for nearly 200 yards and a touchdown. The new Moanalua defense seeks to tighten up and shut down the Searider signal caller and perform better than

Wai‘anae Seariders

last season. That motivation to become better makes the Menehune a formidable rival. “They might be challenging, but I am confident we are going to win,” freshman DB Michael Ganaban said. Despite this confidence, the Seariders know that it is still early in the season and any team can win on any given Friday. The only thing that is for sure is that hard work is the only way to positive results. “I’m practicing hard, so that my team and I can smash Moanalua and try hard to be the best on the field,” junior LB Joshua Rosa-Sinclair said. The game will be a battle in the trenches and the team that wins will “need to block, block well again, tackle good and control the line of scrimmage,” Tokunaga added. The second home game of Wai‘anae’s season is here and the winner is yet to be proven, but fans can be happy knowing that football is back and they are in for an entertaining battle.

RONALD MATAUTIA Varsity Linebacker

Q:

How does it feel to win your teams first pre-season home game?

A:

It felt good to win the first pre-season game, especially against Farrington knowing that we were the under dogs going into the game.

Q:

What were you thinking while running 92 yards for the touchdown? Why?

A:

I was thinking I need to get into the end zone to make this interception count because if not, I would’ve felt that it was just an ordinary interception.

Q:

What strategies are you practicing? Why? Do you think they’ll will work?

A:

The strategies I use to make touchdowns is practicing my drops and making sure I’m in the right position. Reason for being is because I’m on defense and the only way I could score is if I intercept the ball.

Q:

How did playing your first game make you feel about your seasons going to go?

A:

Playing the first game gave me a lot more confidence about how the season is going to go because the performance of my team went very well, although there’s still room for improvements. I felt we did well.
