GAME PREVIEW Waipahu Marauders

T

VS

he JV Seariders (5-1) are looking to get back to their winning ways as they come back home to Raymond Torii Field to take on the JV Waipahu Marauders (2-3). “Honestly, I think we will pull the victory just by the way we have been practicing and going through our plays, but anything could happen,” sophomore defensive lineman Chanson Akiona said. Last week Waianae’s JV team found themselves in a position they are not too familiar with. The team took their first loss in over a year and a half. The record breaking win streak was ended when the team lost a hard faught match to the Campbell High School Sabers. The team’s history of success was broken, but the spirits of the players are alive and well. “I think we

Wai‘anae Seariders

can improve on doing our jobs better,” sophomore linebacker Chad Kea said. The Seariders are still the defending JV OIA Red Division Champions two years in a row, and hope that last week’s slip up was just a minor bump in the road as they attempt to bounce back and win their third consecutive JV title. The road back to the championship starts with a win tonight, but Waipahu will make sure that doesn’t come easy. The Marauders’ are a team trying to make a name for themselves and at 2 - 3 they have no where to go but up. A win over the champion Seariders would be a nice resume builder for the young Marauder team who hopeto propel themselves into the JV playoff picture.

JOEY NU’UANU-KUHIIKI Defensive Lineman

Q:

Describe the pressure that you feel when you have to punt the ball or kick a field goal.

A:

The pressure is not that bad, as long as my line is there blocking for me, I’m able to punt the ball in time.

Q:

What do you think is your best defensive skill? Why?

A:

My best defensive skill that I use is the swim by or the rip. I use this because its the most easiest way to get the offensive lines hands off of you.

Q:

Explain the feeling of knowing it’s your job to stop the opposing quarterback from making a play.

A:

It’s hard to explain how it feels. My adrenaline gets pumped up real high real fast because I know I have the chance to sack that QB.

Q: A:

How will you guys bounce back from breaking the winning streak? We will continue working hard and start improving on the mistakes we made.

Q:

What do you expect from you and your team at homecoming?

A:

I don’t expect that much from them. I expect them to play their hardest and the best they can. Knowing that it’s homecoming, we’ll really hype this up for sure.

SNAP CHAT What kind of a rush do you get during the game?

Soph. Austin Keliinoi-Westbrook “The type of rush I feel is a pumped up kind of rush because once I step on the game field I feel pumped up and ready to hit the opposing teams players.”

Fresh. Dj Roberts “Out on the field I feel pumped up and like this adrenaline comes over me and I feel like I can do anything when I’m playing.”

Soph. Noah Kealoha “I feel the rush that the crowd gives when they roar. That allows me to play every play like it’s my last.”

Fresh. Kala Whitney “The kind of rush I feel is an exciting kind of feeling because everyone is yelling and screaming for my team and I and it’s a great rush.”

Soph. John Ganer “The rush I feel is an exciting rush because the crowd makes me feel pumped up before every play. “

Junior Tresslee Sotelo “I get super excited and hyped up while cheering. Especially when the crowd participates.”

Junior Kayla Magsayo “I get excited when the crowd cheers along with us, especially if we’re winning. The most time I get hyped is when they get a touchdown.”

Soph. Treshar Sotelo “I love cheering at the games. I get so excited hearing the crowd cheer.”

Soph. Amberlynn Simbahon “I get excited when cheering at the football games because I get all hyped up especially when parents get rowdy.”

Senior Jalen Galon “The type of rush that I have on the field would be an exciting type of rush, because I’ll have to remember my assignment on the field and at the same time listen to the crowd cheering us on to win the game.

Senior Christian Searle “The type of rush I feel during games is unexplainable. Playing under the lights and having that crowd yell and root for the team every play makes you run faster, hit harder, and play more aggressively.”

Junior Timmy Ho’opili “The type of rush I feel is a pumped up kind of rush because once I step on the game field I feel pumped up and ready to hit the opposing teams players.:

Junior Salamanesa Taufi “The rush I feel during the game is a hyper rush feeling. I hit anything in my way or run faster than anybody on the field. It’s like an animal that lives in me and is unleashed during the game.”
