ST CLARE’S SCHOOL
We are really enjoying the summer term and have so much going on but only have room here to tell you about a couple of our latest events! We have loved being able to organise school trips, sports activities, concerts and a wider range of visitors to the school – things we used to take for granted now seem so special. We recently held a Welsh day to inspire children to use more Welsh in all aspects of their lives. The day started with a performance from the wonderful Porthcawl Male Voice Choir. The children participated in fun activities throughout the day and were finally treated to a concert by the hugely talented Bronwen Lewis. Year 6 had the privilege of working with another talented artist, Bethzienna (a songwriter, musician and finalist on The Voice). Bethzienna and college music students worked with the children to write a song about climate change. The children then had the honour of performing the song at the opening of the recent Bridgend College ‘Our Future’ Festival. We began with some sad news as we said goodbye to our year elevens who were moving onto their next stage in their life. A party was held on the 14th June to wish them good luck for their future. As previously mentioned, we sold our tomato plants and the proceeds were used to buy food and toiletries for our local food bank. Our school also participated in an art exhibition at Cardiff Metropolitan University, where work from the students was shown. Our enrichment afternoons have been a success, with pupils enjoying different sports from Dallaglio, art with Mrs Roberts, where we learnt new skills such as embroidery and drama with Megan has been a blast. Finally, we are approaching the end of the school year, so enjoy the summer holidays and remember, “you have the right to relax and play”, according to Article 31 of our Rights Respecting Schools.
