FOSTER/WHITE GALLERY GUY LARAMÉE TOILET PAPER DIARY In March 2020 when the world was becoming slightly hysterical in response to the unknowns surrounding the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, Guy Laramée turned to a new form of sculpture. Selecting a delicate and typically transitory object, he began to transform the simple daily necessity into a larger sculptural narrative; his Toilet Paper Diary was born. “This project was created almost exclusively with the medium of toilet paper. Produced between March 2020 and March 2021, in the city of Montreal, Québec, Canada, it is a pandemic diary, covering the period of the first, second and third waves. The sculptures are made directly to the scale of the toilet paper rolls from which they are crafted, sometimes with the addition of extra pulp of the same paper type. The sets for each tableaux were also built using toilet paper pulp. Theatrically lit, and photographed by Alain Lefort, the 22 scenes, unfold sequentially and together create a final work of 35 feet in length. The work intends to capture our mental state throughout the time of this crisis. The poetic texts underneath the images are more akin to mythological prose than social comment. Recalling the form of horizontal Chinese scroll paintings, the work is designed to be viewed either by gradually unrolling and re-rolling it along a table top—or by unscrolling it fully to display on a long table or inclined wall shelf.” - Guy Laramée

PATRICK LOCICERO TEMPEST

JA N UARY 6 - 27, 2022

“Blue Rose (Journey Canto)” Oil & collage on canvas, 43 x 44 in.

PATRICIA ROVZAR GALLERY 1111 1ST AVENUE, SEATTLE, WA 98101

PRG HOURS: TUESDAY - SATURDAY, 11AM - 5PM, AND BY APPOINTMENT

“Tempest” takes its inspiration from turn of the century seascape and landscape paintings. Looking to the time period and the idea of braving the elements, confronting turbulence, and facing the forces of nature, LoCicero creates parallels to our present-day challenges of living through and navigating a pandemic. The artist literally incorporates the melodramatic and romantic aspects of early 20th century culture through collaging archival ephemera from art history, poetry and music of the era into his paintings. Composed of three cantos—departure, journey, and return—“Tempest” tells a metaphorical allegory through images of schooners, ships, skiffs and boats.

Artist Show & Tell: Saturday, January 8, 12-2pm Join us to meet the artist & enjoy getting hands-on with some of the inspiration & ephemera that drives LoCicero's practice.

Top: “Sampans In Formations (Departure Canto)” Oil & collage on canvas, 40 x 46 in. Bottom: “Breezing Up (Departure Canto)” Oil & collage on canvas, 36 x 48 in.
