Exhibition of Personal Collections from a Few West Coast Gentlemen As we plan our eventual personal move to France, (sadly, with no clear path there yet), we are offering our collecting community some finely selected works of art we have enjoyed for many years. As our collection developed over forty years of acquisitions, it branched into many different areas. My initial collection was of prints and works on paper by Northwest and nationally known artists. When I found myself in a long-term relationship, we began to collect in other areas. We bought American patchwork quilts in the 1980s, admiring many similarities with contemporary geometrically based art. We collected folk art in various forms, particularly furniture, because we enjoyed the eccentricity often revealed in its forms and methods. In the 1990s, we got interested in classical Japanese erotica called shunga and finding works by major artists of the woodcut tradition such as Eisen, Kuniyoshi, and Utamaro. Along the way we created smaller collections of Peking glass and Japanese imari pottery. We bought furniture, some from the esteemed designer Terry Hunziker, which is also included here. While major parts of our collection are moving with us, we are letting go of many works of art, antiques, prints, furniture, and all kinds of collectible treasures from our travels. Many of these artworks were bought through auctions for local non-profits such as SOIL or Artist Trust, so the profits from sales by these Northwest artists will be directed back to these much needed institutions. All of them are captivating pieces by an extraordinary group of artists.

Le Château de l’Astorguié, Parisot, France 82160

We hope you will have the opportunity to see these artworks yourselves either online or in person. We are thankful to our clients for their ongoing support. We feel very lucky this year to have our health, an exciting plan for our futures, and for the future of the Greg Kucera Gallery. —Greg Kucera

KATIE METZ Elements of Urban Form MAY 2021

Urban Form 2, acrylic on panel, 24 x 48 in.

Katie Metz’ works reveal a way of seeing beneath the immense and frenetic surface of city life to the unity and human connection we have within it. Metz finds a steady and unbroken peace in an otherwise teeming, bustling urban scene. Her compositions are created from personal reference and imagination, painting the way a city feels rather than any specific locations. A never-ending fascination for the artist, she is captivated by the way a city constantly changes and grows, a vertical playground that is both hurried and hushed.
