The HOTEL IS LOCATED AT 1540 BROADWAY OAKLAND. THE CIELO NAMED FROM THE WORD “SKY” IN SPANISH. THE HOTEL WILL PROVIDE A PLACE WHERE THE TARGET USERS ARE INTERCONNECTED WITH THEIR SPACE IN HARMONY, AND THEIR NATURAL HABITAT PROVIDES THE BASIC NEEDS FOR THEM TO THRIVE BUT IN A PEACEFUL AND PLAYFUL ENVIRONMENT. MUCH LIKE WHAT LAKE MERIT DOES FOR THE HUMMINGBIRDS, THE HOTEL WOULD REMAIN IN THE MINDS OF THE TRAVELERS AS AN OASIS TO GO BACK TO WHEN THEY RETURN TO THE CITY.

Hotel is facing west-north which is about 310 degree on compass. Natural is stronger when building facing the west is easy to absorb the sun’s heat. In which the glazing at west need be aware of design in term of finishings, fabrics summer cooling and artificial light etc. Wind is 2992 hours a year. Oakland had it own history that joined variety culture. The future site is near the 12th Bart station with ADA path consideration. In which is a convenient place. The San Francisco Travel Association reported today that San Francisco welcomed a total of 24.6 million visitors in 2015, an increase of 2.7 percent from 2014. Oakland has over 2.5 million people visitor. According to the research High Tech population is the main target and following are tourist and local people. The future hotel will considerate the facts and elements in term of climate, noises, new pick up and drop off area medium companies, art, culture, and competitions. The project will delivery a diversity interior spaces to allow guests to visit.

The courtyard can be an advantage to increase the quality of exterior views.

The natural light will come into the windows from the courtyard and front door. The higher the floor is, the more lights . Quality of exterior views is better when the floor gets higher. Opposite graphic shows the lights and the views.

HUMMINGBIRD - THE JOURNEY IN OAKLAND JOYFUL

MAIN IDEA

The hotel “CIELO” would mimic that space for the business men and women visiting Oakland. The design will deliver enjoyable and playful spaces where nourishment and relaxation are provided without given up the basic connectivity and working space needs required to thrive in today’s competitive business world. Much like what Lake Merit does for the hummingbirds, the hotel would remain in the minds of the travelers as an oasis to go back to when they return to the city. The spaces will be designed to appeal to the five senses through organic lines and shapes, cohesive colors and textures inspired by Oakland, interchangeable) lights with the time and spaced-infused aromas that would create a unique, timeless and beautiful experience where guests can go from timeless bliss to hectic activities at their own speed.

This hotel concept is inspired by the hummingbirds that I encounter in Lake Merritt during the research phase of this project. At time, these beautiful creatures appear to float on the air without being subject to the concept of time. However, they can also be remarkable fast to jump to the next flower in search for nourishment, creating beautiful and delicate flying patterns that enrich and mesmerize us with their joy and perfection. These birds are interconnected with their space in harmony, and their natural habitat provides the basic needs for them to thrive but in a peaceful and playful environment.

SUMMARY The Cielo hotel will seek to sustainable deign in six principles. Firstly,optimize site potential such as solar panel system and to maximum the use of natural light. Secondly, minimize non-renewable energy for example reduce and reuse the water. Thirdly, use environmentally preferable products, for instant bio-based, reclaimed, local materials etc. And use the 3rd party certificated products(the labels listed above). Forth, Enhance indoor environmental quality by using zero VOC materials. Lastly, optimize operational and maintenance in our hotel such as high-efficiency lighting, energy sensors system and creating a software which can be programing by the computer in hotel. 71
