CREATIVE PROCESS CHALLENGE: The
class harnesses a mixture of some of the major themes in architecture: the expertise of construction
through knowledge of the relationship between materials and mechanics, the use of geometry as an abstraction language for the basis of the project, as well as the observation of nature as a place where time, matter and physics interact in the formation of organic and inorganic processes of beauty.

DRAWING AND REPRESENTING CHALLENGE: To
watch, to see, to observe, to represent: the requested exercise is based on these four
verbs, giving the common thread for a logical sequence to follow whenever one wants to reproduce something real in a graphic representation.
Seeing
is the most generic side of our relationship with reality, without it necessarily
being intentional.
Watching
is a decision, we have already seen it, and we can continue watching something for
as long as we like.
To
observe something is to examine it carefully and intentionally, to study it, to get to
know it.

Pavilion
for artists
Problem: The theme is a small pavilion created as a work of art within the Maeght Foundation in Saint-Paul de Vence. The project is, therefore, confronted with this architectural and artistic ensemble of the foundation. It will be a hybrid property between sculpture and habitable house for an artist. The main theme will be the light and the shade.
Approach: My concept was based on the theme of the cave, space where light is scarce, filtered through gaps through the roof. The pavilion is integrated in the side of the mountain in total fusion with the site. Its closed façades give it a mysterious dimension. Wandering is created by the presence of monolithic blocks, as if they are abandoned blocks. The depth and narrowness of the passage generated by the blocks, generates an atmosphere of calm, where each element is arranged so that wandering is free. The walls are designed as blocks, they are intended to generate spaces. The wall, opens, closes, hides or shows the guide. This set is like a labyrinth by the fact that discovering new sensations is permanent. The arrangement of the blocks raises the question of what they hide. The large volumes strengthen the sensation of density, however, when the forest of blocks is interrupted, the light appears and shows the way forward while creating a multitude of unexpected walks in the pavilion. The absence of markings indicates that no direction is privileged. The narrow spaces, and their significant height provide a sense of privacy. Different atmospheres inhabit the pavilion according to the spaces. To this end, each volume has precise proportions to achieve an environment suitable for everyone. Here, the walls are truly inhabited walls. It is their thickness which receives the programme. This principle is taken from Louis Kahn on the living wall. This raised the possibility of living walls, as we can see in the castle of Comlogan.
