Hello My name is Sebastian Shaw and I am a recent graduate of Northumbria Design for Industry course. Lets get straight into it, why should you be interested in me and what I could offer you? I don’t just love design I am excited by it. I like to look for current and upcoming trends in economical, social and technological change, applying this to design opportunities in a variety of forms, whether this be idea generation to sketching and modelling. I relish opportunities to conceptualise the latest trends through disruptive design, by doing so I attempt to create engaging and semantic design through my ability to understand product design and apply it to 3D Visuals and graphics. With an 3D engineering background I also have a keen addiction for detail, materials and material property. This allows me to apply thinking of a 3D sense to graphics and visuals to utilising a unique understanding.

About me
Interests I have always been interested in computers and anything electronic. Always taking something apart to fix something else. This does come with its benefits as it aids me in the understanding of graphical layouts for web and digital design, helping me to shape user interface and Website layouts. It also means I read a lot of disassembly leaflets! I also enjoy going to the gym in my spare time. This is important to me as it relieves stress and keeps me fit. Keeping my brain fresh and active so that I can focus on becoming a better designer.
Experience 1 Year 8 Months During my most recent post. I had the great fortune of being an intermediary between a physical packaging solution and a leading 2D team at an award winning agency.

Little innovation in 15 years for children
After conducting a 2 month research project exploring the issues surrounding children’s dental care I came to startling conclusions surrounding the market. Tooth decay is on the rise and it costs the NHS £35,000,000 each year. A large part of the issue surrounds the inconsistency of children’s tooth-brushing technique, in a market that has been incrementally innovated for the last 15 years.

PROBLEM Children are struggling to know the correct amount to aid them in an efficient dental routine. Children noted that it had been difficult to dispense the correct amount as the nozzle was too wide. SOLUTION By designing a nozzle and lid with a tighter diameter, the children will have more control when applying toothpaste. This coupled with packaging with a more curved edge provides an overall more pleasant user experience.
PROBLEM Children often brush inconsistently during their two minute dental routine. Missing parts of their teeth leading to poor dental health. SOLUTION The brush utilises angled bristles and a chewing action to brush children’s teeth by simply chewing, this helps to reduce the need for concentration, whilst improving technique.
PROBLEM Children noted that it had been difficult to dispense the correct amount as the nozzle was too wide. SOLUTION By designing a nozzle and lid with a tighter diameter I am able to give the children more control when applying toothpaste.
Chew
PROBLEM What if children are brushing inconsistently for two minutes? They could potentially miss whole area’s of their teeth. SOLUTION The Chew mouthwash comes with both fluoride and a disclosing solution. Whilst rinsing their teeth the children will also be shown areas that they might have missed.

The general concept behind DAWA Pack is to educate the customer base throughout Sub-Saharan Africa, whilst at the same time offering a valuable, trusted answer to SSA’s ongoing war with counterfeit medicine.
Utilizing thermochromic printing the DAWA packaging will educate patients on the legitimacy of the medicine by changing colour on contact. This printing process will create semantic packaging that is recognised in Africa, whilst moving forward in the fight against counterfeit medicine.

Dawa pack has been designed with the very core of its community in mind. Due to low paying jobs being common place, tablets can easily be torn off the pack, to be sold on a pill by pill basis. With an easy and simple authentication method that requires no outside intervention, the population can be educated through use of the pack. A simple answer to a terrible problem.
To future proof the concept of Dawa pack, simple steps can be taken. With the coming innovation in thermochromics throughout multiple first world countries, Layering can be used to stay ahead of the counterfeit trade. This mainly due to the fact that only a number of first world countries will be able to provide such manufacturing processes.

A large number of Unilever’s current personal care products have water as a base ingredient. Water weight must contribute to additional fuel consumption
Unilever developed the technology to be able to compress their product families deoderant. Slightly changing the product from the eyes of the consumer made Unilever massive cost savings and profits. Think shelf space. Lush offer personal care alternatives for a variety of unusual experiences. Their “Showder product is an alternative to shower gel. However, the powder is susceptible to the bathroom environment.
