Dominica The Secret Bay Story Responsible Luxury The Villas The Bungalows A Personalised Service A Sustainable Investment
Dominica A Hidden Treasure Secret Bay is a small eco-luxury development located on the northwest coast of the unspoilt nature island of Dominica in the West Indies. A land of great beauty and contrasts, Dominica is known as the “Nature Island” for its abundance of natural splendours: 365 rivers, the second largest boiling lake in the world, volcanoes, mountains, waterfalls, hot springs, and black and white sand beaches. Much of the island is protected under national parks, one of which has been given UNESCO World Heritage status, and Secret Bay is just 30 minutes drive from such wonders as Morne Diablotins Natural Park, Cabrits National Park and the magical Indian River. With abundant flora and fauna on land as well as underwater, Dominica is a paradise for divers, hikers, birdwatchers and nature-lovers who seek excitement and inspiration. The most northerly of the Windward Islands, the climate in Dominica is tropical with constant temperatures all year round (between 21°C-30°C). Despite being one of the largest islands in the Caribbean (754 sq. km) it remains one of the least populated (72,660) and is one of the few islands to have retained its pre-Colombian population.
Our Story Background Dominican-born Gregor Nassief fell in love with Secret Beach as a child and dreamed of one day owning and living on the land above it. Coming from a local family of hoteliers and businessmen, he always knew that this was the perfect spot on the island for developing a small-scale eco-tourism venture. He has now made this dream a reality with the support of his artist wife Sandra Vivas and her father, award-winning Latin American architect Fruto Vivas, who conceptualised the stunning properties.
Our Values Secret Bay has been developed in a green and sustainable way: from the sourcing of materials, the building methods, water and energy efficiency, to an on-going commitment both to the protection of this precious land and to the local community. Secret Bay is an eco-luxury resort shaped in equal measure by a responsibility to the environment and a desire to offer you a sumptuous stay in harmony with nature.
Responsible Luxury A Pristine Location Perched on a clifftop promontory that juts out into the Caribbean Sea, Secret Bay is just 10 minutes outside the university town of Portsmouth and about an hour’s drive from the capital Roseau. With two distinct micro-climates, access to two swimming beaches, a spectacular sea cave and the magical Cario River, the eco-luxury resort is situated in one of the prime locations of the Caribbean.
Quality Construction The sustainable development currently consists of two villas and two bungalows, which will continue to operate as a boutique getaway experience. An additional eight to ten units will be available for whole or fractional ownership and will be sold pre-construction. Painstakingly built by hand of Guyanese Greenheart hardwood and designed to maximise the natural beauty of Secret Bay and to minimise the impact on this fragile environment, the villas and bungalows will be generously positioned across the four-acre site to ensure privacy and seclusion and will offer glorious views over the Caribbean Sea and rainforest-covered mountains.
The Villas Discover Harmony The luxury villas have been raised from the ground to give you the feeling you are floating above the world. This ingenious design not only makes the most of the magnificent views but also allows for optimal use of the land underneath and minimal impact on the landscape. The bi-folding doors and many windows ensure the villa is full of natural light and ventilation; and the numerous outdoor spaces, including a private infinity pool or garden jacuzzi, maximise Caribbean indoor/outdoor living. These beautifully furnished homes, ideal as a romantic couples’ retreat or perfect for families and friends, are typically available with either one or two bedrooms but can be customised for whole ownership. The second bedroom can be configured to your taste: as either a study or office or as a guest or children’s bedroom. From the fully-equipped modern kitchen to the contemporary opulence of the en-suite bathrooms; from the finest linens to the state-ofthe-art audiovisual system – the spacious and secluded Secret Bay villas exemplify modern minimalistic luxury.
The Bungalows Embrace Simplicity The one-bedroom bungalows are tucked into the forested hillside with views into the trees and the river and ocean below. As very few trees were cut down in the development of Secret Bay the two-storey bungalows have been nestled into the treetops – an enchanting treehouse for grown-ups, ideal for secluded romance. Bungalows are luxuriously-furnished and feature a fully-equipped modern kitchen with open plan dining and living area as well as an outdoor terrace where you can relax or enjoy a meal surrounded by the sights, sounds and smells of nature. The airy upstairs bedroom has a contemporary en-suite bathroom and all rooms feature one open-wall with floor-to-ceiling glass so you can be immersed in the tropical greenery all around you. A chic Robinsoe Crusoe pied-a-terre in the Caribbean, the bungalows offer a peaceful place for quiet contemplation and total relaxation.
