Teacher Appreciation Week From May 4th through May 8th, Key Club had arranged a whole week for the many special teachers at SECTA for Teacher Appreciation Week! On Monday, members donated apples to surprise the teachers with a basket full of apples. On Tuesday, Danika and I had made a few flower pots that each had a sign that says "Thank you for helping us grow!" On Wednesday, we made a giant poster for the teachers that read "Teachers, you are the (key) to our success!" On Thursday, we all made treats for the teachers during our Key Club meeting that each had a card that said "School would suck without you." On Friday, we ended the week with hearts on teachers' doors that were left for their students to write their favorite thing about them. Throughout the week, I heard a lot of thanks from teachers in the hallways. I am glad that the teachers could be acknowledged for all their hard work! Hopefully, next year we will be able to make Teacher Appreciation Week better than ever that will leave the teachers speechless.

K-Kids

Helping over at K-Kids every month has always been a pleasure for me. It gave me a chance to give back to kids that will later hopefully become a Key Clubber. Although they are much more younger than me, I feel as if they are still able to teach me how to become a better person in my community. One of the things they taught me was how if everyone worked together we could get the whole school to recycle and that would help our community a lot. Besides doing work, we also had a lot of fun at every meeting. The kids are all very friendly and always seem to be excited to see us. For their final meeting on the 19th of May, we were able to celebrate all their achievements completed this year while enjoying pizza and juice. Then as a thank you, K-Kids gave us cupcakes! We gladly ate them, thanking them for the wonderful gesture as well. I can’t wait until next year to volunteer and experience all the fun all over again.

FINAL VISIT FOR THE YEAR

From May 26th through May 29th, members and I sold candy-grams called Kiss A Senior Goodbye during both lunches! Kiss A Senior Goodbye is a fundraiser that we’ve been doing since last year. Essentially, students come up to our table during lunch and write a note for a graduating senior that they want to send a goodbye to. We attach their note with a ribbon to a bag of 10 Hershey’s Kisses. Some days were kind of slow in terms of sales but it was fun to sit with our advisor and members for the whole week. Although, on the last day, it was pretty busy because of all the students buying their favorite senior a last minute kiss goodbye. During our general meeting that week, the members had packaged the kisses in bags. It gave the members a chance to interact with each other while having everyone participate in taking part in one of our best fundraisers. On June 1st, during the Senior Video (the Class of 2015 had their Senior Day), Mrs. Stark had helped us pass out kisses to the seniors that we were able to spot. When it was time for the seniors to go to the gym for graduation rehearsal, a lot of seniors gathered around the tables that the kisses were set on and grabbed their own kisses. We brought the remaining kisses to the gym and had some counselors help us find the recipients. Overall, it was really fun and I got to see a bunch of bright SECTA Roadrunner faces.
