past events Boys and Girls C lub   On December 19, 2014, quite a few members from our Key Club went to our Boys and Girls Club to help with their event. They were serving cookies and hot cocoa for the kids before the winter break. All of our members assisted the employees with handing the hot cocoa and placing cookies onto plates, napkins, dishes; anything that could carry the cookies. We prepared well before the kids came in, having the whole table filled with plates and cookies. Before the kids came in, we had the SAAs stand on the other side of the window to keep the kids in line and to hand the treats to them. As the kids were coming in, they organized themselves into a line wrapping around the eating area. Their faces lit up when they were handed cookies and hot cocoa. As each group left, we hurried over to clean up a few messes so the next group would have a clean eating area. A few of the kids remembered us from previous times we visited, which was really heartwarming . When the event was done, we were allowed to have some hot cocoa for ourselves, and we helped clean up the tables and the floors. One of my favorite events to go to every month is the Boys and Girls Club.

Jackmovie Dailey night
On January 23, 2015, Key Club participated in Jack Dailey’s movie night. Members arrived prior to the event to help with setting up the cafeteria so that kids and parents could enjoy the event. While the movie was playing, members helped to sell popcorn along with Jack Dailey’s K Kids members. We watched them and made sure they gave out correct change. Afterwards, members helped to clean up the cafeteria. Prior to the event, Key Clubbers helped the K-Kids make posters during their meeting. On the posters, Key Clubbers helped advertise for the movie event by putting the name of the event, the movie title, the date, and the time. The kids were very happy to see our members again and we are so happy to be working with the children every month.

Officer Presentations With elections coming up, the board officers all decided to have officer presentations for any members who are interested in running for a position. To prepared for these presentations, the board made a power point that highlighted their individual responsibilities for the club. However, in order to not burden anyone who was sure they did not want to be on the board, we held the meeting on the day of a board meeting. Having it on this day, members were given the option on whether or not they wanted to attend. This also showed the board that they were dedicated to the club considering the fact that they made the time to attend. The presentations ended up being a success, and many of the members who attended were able to decide on which position they would like to run for.
Cup of Noodles Â
Â
& Sandwich Making
In order to prepare for DCON, our club has decided to increase the amount of fundraisers we do. Due to popular demand, our club will start selling cups of noodles during lunch. Members brought in different cups of ramen and sold them during first and second lunch. Since we will be selling noodles, we will not be selling Nachos during this time, so we are hoping to make just as much, if not more, than what we usually do. We had our first selling this month and will continue selling through the month of February.
For the past two months, SECTA has been making sandwiches for the homeless. Every time we make them, we have always made an astonishing amount in such a limited time (30 minutes the first time, 1 hour the second time). As a result, we have decided to have a sandwich making session at the last meeting of every month. For these sessions, members bring in  bread, peanut butter, jelly, or even ham so that we can make sandwiches. All the materials brought in are by choice and any leftovers are kept for the next time. This month, although we ended up running out of bread (again!!) we ended up making ~150 sandwiches.
Amazing job Key Clubbers!!

Members of the month Â
Karla & Danica
Karla is a spirited member that always brings herself to every meeting. She always tries to come to every event she can while bringing her friends along to volunteer! She, like Danica, always comes to the KKids Monthly Meetings. It really means a lot to the board and club that she and the others can come to this event every time with a 100% attendance. Although we cannot give a member of the month award to every member, it is important that the members know that we appreciate them and their efforts.
Danica is an enthusiastic member of our Key Club! She comes to every meeting and always participates in club activities. A specific event that Danica always goes to, along with her friends, is the K-Kids Monthly Meeting. The KKids meetings are especially important because it is what helps our younger group decide if doing community service and joining Key Builders and Key Club is worth it!
New Year’s
Resolutions
At our first meeting, we had our members fill out their Key Club resolutions for the year. These are just a few of the submissions that we got!
“My new year’s resolution for this year is to become an officer and to help the club raise money.” “I would like to be a board member for at least 2 years. Other than that, I want to try doing way more service than I did last year.”
“I would like to participate in Relay for Life as a club this year.” “-Volunteer more -Be on time for events -Donate more individual hours and money to the club -Help the club raise money”
“My resolution is to get elected on the board.”
Letter from the Treasurer Â
Â
Austin C havez
Hey! My name is Austin Chavez and I'm a Junior. I'm our Key Club's relatively new Treasurer. I am really excited to be here and be given the opportunity to work with you all. I'm definitely newer to the club and the board. I remember my first day, I was really shy and felt a little out of place. Then, Terrie, our current Vice President, called for me to sign-in because I didn't know what we did at meetings. I felt so embarrassed! However, I learned that Key Club is really just all one big happy family. The board really accepted me when I got my positions. I was afraid to recommend new ideas because, well, they were the officers of a club. So, I know how you feel if you'd be afraid to approach us with any ideas, but we're here to serve you! We'd love to hear any suggestions you have to offer. Don't forget, we're always looking for new members! I have a strong leadership background and I hope to serve you, the members, and Key Club International and bring myself, and our members to their fullest potentials! Thank you for your service, passion, dedication, and commitment. I look forward to serving the community with you! You may not realize it, but you are changing the world.
