I had volunteered to help the Tomiyasu elementary school with their Halloween Carnival. I was helping the bowling for ghost with other students. It was so much fun, seeing the little kids get excited when they knocked downs the pins and ran to go get their prize. They were dressed in their costumes and caring around their pumpkins with big smiles on their faces as well as their family members. Everyone had a good time as well as I. I can't wait for next year to volunteer again. -Kelly Trigueros, Key Club Member
On Friday, October 23, our Key Club went down to Tomiyasu Elementary school to help out at their Halloween Carnival. Members showed up at 3pm, after their school got out, and began first by signing in and getting our assigned booths. We even saw Del Sol’s Student Council there and worked together alongside some of their members to rearrange tables and set up certain areas. Although I was assigned the Cake Walk, because there wasn’t much setting up to do, I ended up setting up the Haunted House with two other members and some other Del Sol students. It was difficult at first, because many of us had no idea how to set up the Haunted House. However, after a certain while, we finally got the hang of it and were able to properly hang up things where we thought they would fit best. Once the carnival started, I helped collect tickets for the Cake Walk. It was really difficult because people would keep crowding around, eager to hand in their tickets, and I would have a hard time making sure only 20 people entered at a time. However, I had another member help me count, and in the end, I ended up really enjoying my job, and I loved seeing how happy the kids were when they left with their plate of treats to bring home. -Danika Manguiat, Key Club Bulletin Editor
T OMI Y ASU C ARNIVAL
BOY S AN D GIRL S C LUB On Thursday, October 30th, we volunteered at Boys & Girls Club for a Halloween event with the kids. We all arrived at 4:00pm, and we chose the teams we would be in for the games we would play. All of the teams were assigned a room, and I stayed in the Gym with Elisa and Deborah where we played shadow tag and red light, green light. The kids were separated by age groups and they would rotate to each station until 6:00. After explaining the game to them, everyone started running after each other. I was surprised to see them being so energetic because I myself am not. It was easy join in though, because they were having so much fun. We kept taking water breaks because of how tired we would get. When we switched over to red light green light, we just sprinted as fast as we could when we heard green light. We ended by giving everyone candy and switching to the next group. It was fun to play the games from my childhood, and it was so nice to see all of the kids happy playing together. Although I was definitely tired, it was a fun experience for Key Club, and I’m excited to see these kids again! -Natilie Dominguez, Key Club Member

Sc h o o l Beautification
On November 8th, Key Club went to the School Beautification along with Student Council, Ambassadors, Junior Cosmo, and Sol at our very own school. We helped picking up the trash and, guess what? There was a lot of trash! I think our group picked up the most trash…or maybe it was just the area we were assigned. We even picked up a box of pizza! I have no idea why the students didn’t throw it in the trashcan and chose to instead hide it in a bush. Picking up trash under the sun was tiring, but it was worth it after we saw the results of what we did. Then we started to pull out weeds at the back of the gym. After we were done, we headed to the commons so we could eat. It turns out that the pizza didn’t arrive yet so when it finally came, everyone looked so happy. It’s like, “Finally! We can eat!.” Being at school early on a Saturday wasn’t really bad, especially when you’re doing something as rewarding like what we did. I actually had fun being there for three hours, picking up trash to make the school look nice. I hope there are more people in the future willing to help out. -Nicole Villanueva, Key Club Member
SANDWHICH MAKING
On Thursday, November 13th, our Key Club members got together during the meeting and made sandwiches for the homeless. Not only were the members amazing enough, to make these sandwiches, but they also went above and beyond by bringing in the supplies themselves. All the peanut butter, bread, jelly, and even ham we used to make those sandwiches, were paid right out of each member’s pockets without any demand for compensation. After we started making the sandwiches, the job became less of a job and more of something fun. All the members loved it! They all sat in groups and got to know one another by learning how to work as a team, with someone putting the peanut butter, another the jelly, and someone else bagging it up. Although I didn’t help make them, I did go around collecting all the finished sandwiches; and boy, did the box get heavy! By the time we were finished, our members had made about 160+ sandwiches in 30 minutes alone. The only reason we stopped was because we ran out of bread! The members loved it, and we will definitely be doing it again in the near future.

ME M B E R S of the M O Mason & Naomi Â
NTH
Â
Mason has really improved since the time that he first joined Key Club. He was shy and kind of unmotivated to do community service. As time passed, he started showing up to events more often and bringing people in to join our meetings! This was the first time that I saw so much growth in a short amount of time. His overall positive attitude is a great addition to our club!
Naomi was excited to do community service since she first joined Key Club. She went to some DCMs, events, and all the meetings that she can make! Although, she ran into an unfortunate event that tested her willingness to stay in the club, she looked passed it and is still with us today! Her valiance helps keep our club going!

L etter from the President
Hello Ladies and Gentlemen, My name is Elisa Loden and I am currently the president of Southeast Career and Technical Academy’s Key Club. I am looking forward to an amazing year with a just as equally amazing club. This term we have a total of forty-seven paid members and each week we see more and more students interested in our club. We may be a smaller club, but our passion for service makes up for everything. We, as a club, have already faced a few hardships. However, we have showed that we can overcome them. SECTA’s Key Club is ready for everything that is thrown at us. We are ready for more service, fundraising, events with Kiwanis, and events with other clubs! It is our love of service that defines us. I have extremely high hopes for our club. Without the members we would not be where we are today. Through hard work and dedication we can be anything that we can ever imagine. We will always be quality over quantity, and that should be all that ever matters. Southeast Career you are amazing! You should never think otherwise. So let’s show them our SECTA spirit, let’s show them how we run this!
