he Astrology of October and November features Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, highlighted in the lunations of this time period, beginning with the Libra New Moon of September 29th. Uranus and Saturn are opposed throughout this period, with the first pass of their exact opposition, taking place on November 4th, Election Day. We also begin these two months in the midst of another Mercury Retrograde that started in late September and that lasts until after the Scorpio New Moon of October 28th when you consider the shadow period, the two weeks during which the flexible communicator is regaining its lost Zodiacal ground. The peaks of the retrograde in October are the Sun-Mercury conjunction on the 6th and the moment when Mercury actually changes direction on the 15th. This month embodying the vagaries of Neptune is therefore also likely to be characterized by missed connections and mechanical and communicative breakdown, which may yet yield to imaginative breakthrough as we take time off from pushing ahead and pause to reflect on our situation. Neptune, at its highest, tunes us in to the multiple layers of reality that coexist with the more obviously visible world all around us. Neptune thus represents idealism, and the imagination to rise above 2

the unyielding practicality of the earthly plane, flights of fancy reflected in the arts, which correspond to a spiritual order that goes beyond what we can see and hear with our normal senses. But Neptune is not fully at home in the practical world of everyday events, and its power can also lead to illusion, confusion, even outright deception, a tendency that may be aided and abetted by the retrograde of Mercury during this first month. The Full Moon taking place two weeks later, on Tuesday October 14th, again closely aspects Neptune, and also conjuncts the newly named trans-Plutonian dwarf planet, Eris, representing a warrior-like stance against established power. At this time the Uranus – Saturn opposition is active as well, reflecting these same values of taking a stand against a dysfunctional status quo. We will find ourselves speaking truth to power at this midmonth time, and reveling in the discontinuity of breakthrough. We can and will occupy either side of the polarity, raging against the machine or trying to line up our ideals and our revolutionary goals with practical concerns. With the Scorpio New Moon of October 28th, a new day dawns, since Mercury is leaving its retrograde shadow at the same time. Uranus and Saturn are also drawing quite close to their opposition, just as Jupiter in Saturn’s own sign of Capricorn draws nearer to a trine with the taskmaster energy of the ringed planet. The Full
Moon of Wednesday, November 12th forms a Grand Trine with Jupiter and Saturn, with Uranus still opposed, and also makes a Tsquare to Neptune, bringing in the idealism and potential illusion of this numinous archetypal energy once more. This is a very dynamic configuration, more inclined to peace than to war, and may reflect a Democratic victory in the American presidential election, just passed, which can be seen as a referendum on the war in Iraq. In our personal lives as well, we may at this time take an optimistic stance and strive for the high road in our dealings with our fellow humans. We are currently seeing the fulfillment of the ancient dictum that asks “let me live in interesting times.” These are climactic days for all of us, at both the personal and the collective level. The time has come to choose sides and really step up to the plate, for whatever drives your deepest passion. We may lapse into starry-eyed idealism or verge into escapism, but we cannot daydream for very long, since something keeps pulling us back to the central point of the matter. Life is a game for sure but a game played for keeps, as we need to recognize both for the sake of our ailing planet and for the spiritual health of the individuals living within her immense bounty.
ARIES (MARCH 20-APRIL 19) This is a two-month period of deep introspection for you, with regard to your own path forward and also for your dynamics with significant partners in your life. You are mustering reinforcements in all the corners of your existence for transformational change in support of your idealistic vision for what you could become. It is exhilarating and challenging and just a little scary to buck an existing system even if it is your own. On into November, you are called further into service, and also to greater intimacy with yourself and others, from the standpoint of your own deep intuitional center. It is still a bit early to make concrete the various levels of inspiration that are driving you right now, but it won’t be long before the doors of opportunity swing wide open.
TAURUS (APRIL 20-MAY 19) You are in for a roller-coaster ride of a bi-monthly cycle, as poignant possibilities assert themselves strongly in your mental viewpoint. You will come to find also that helpful partners are very important to you right now for establishing your own sense of purpose. This is a time of high idealism and of a vision so profound that it does not really match the way of the world, and you might also find confusion of motivation as a result. On into November, new perspectives from significant others help you slide the puzzle pieces of your life into place. When your ideas really begin to gel, they form a blend of career and philosophical outlook. There has to be heart in what you do in the world right now or it simply doesn’t work for you.
GEMINI (MAY 20-JUNE 20) You are in flux at this time. Your ruler Mercury is in various stages of retrograde through October, and so in some sense you are in the process of redefining yourself over this first month. Your self-expression is highly articulated at this time, but turned inward. You are also likely at this time to be optimistic about your changes and seeing them through. On into November, sudden fluctuations in the weather pattern of your outer life, including in the workplace, set the stage for important realizations concerning where in the world you are actually heading. You are learning to see everything not so much from the standpoint of the here and now only, but allowing the broadest possible perspective, when there is suddenly room for Spirit to enter into the equation.
CANCER (JUNE 21-JULY 20) You are returning to home base right now, either physically or mentally. This is an important period of time for sorting out what really matters to you in this area. Relationship connections are on the upswing, and prove themselves to the extent that they chime with your own truth. The Last Quarter Moon of the 21st may be revelatory, providing information that paves the way for further breakthrough in November. Partnership with others reveals itself as a springboard for your own development, valuable but not the overriding impulse. You are in a state of mystical transformation, wherein you may find that all that you seek is actually available to you from the standpoint of a deeply felt inner perspective.
LEO (JULY 21-AUG. 21) You are entering a period of exploring your roots with an eye to growth, on the verge of breakthrough in discovering your true nature. You may find in the course of October that you come to mystical self-expression in spoken and written word, leading to great idealism, perhaps confusion, regarding your own motivation and also that of important others in your life. This first month is a great time for journaling and for internal reflection. On into November you will be ready to put your money where your mind is, taking soul lessons from your deep places out into the battleground of world events. It is the eventual transformation of your life goals that you seek as you operate from the standpoint of your highest intention moving forward.
month of October with retrograde Mercury allows you to perform a double-take at times on what you hold most dear. Subtly and almost unnoticed, a big-picture viewpoint on who you are and where you are heading is forming alongside your everyday consciousness, coming to better focus by the middle of November. The new view is unusual for sure, a little destabilizing and confusing too at times and blows the hinges off doors that you can’t be completely sure should be opened. It helps to remember to breathe.
LIBRA (SEPTEMBER 22-OCT. 22) This is a powerful time for you. With the Sun in your sign in your birthday month, you are definitely a self-starter, but you also may find yourself in a deeply reflective space, strong for home and family values, and for tribal connection with others, as you return in some sense to your psychological roots. Good fortune smiles upon you over this cycle, although it might pay not to get too cocky. On into November, old patterns of self-expression could also continue to confuse, and to present you with opportunities for growth. You may struggle like a deep sea diver to find enough weight to get down. You are coming into a time of interior adjustment that integrates all levels of your psyche, the more obvious ones as well as the unseen worlds within you.
SCORPIO (OCTOBER 23-NOV. 21) This period of transition has you half in and half out as it begins. This first month of October is in many ways a very internal time period for you, with rich thoughts beneath the surface and with your dreams alive and contributing to your trance-like habitual state of deep awareness. Mercury is retrograding through your sector of profound unconscious process, and you are likely to put yourself into a meditative and self-reflective state for at least the first three weeks. A different side simultaneously emerges in the second week of October, and starts picking up the pace at month’s end and on into November. The New Moon in your sign marks a time of new opportunity and optimistic, even overthe-top, communicative outreach. By mid-November you will revel in the opportunity for balance.
SAGITTARIUS (NOVEMBER 22-DEC. 20) You are coming at the concept of financial security from a new angle these days, cooking up the recipe that will take you farther down your chosen world-path. Idealism and the potential for fuzzy thinking is very present in your makeup right now, and in your communication with others. Conflicts and reassessments in how you see your way forward might also come up for you. October is a great month for visioning possibilities, not so great for departures from existing plans until your ideas have had a chance to firm up. On into November, mulling over your possibilities for a future that you can really live with takes you further into your own dark places. You are gathering your strength to make a mighty stand for yourself with the advent of the holiday season near the end of the month.
CAPRICORN (DECEMBER 21-JAN. 19) This is a time of possibilities. You may wake up every morning with the feeling that all your days have been leading up to this one. You are creating a work of art out of your life and of your career goals, thoughtfully reflective of where your circumstances are leading you, yet alert to where you can break the mold. Although optimism is good, it still pays to look before you leap. In spite of all your enthusiasm, the first half of October is better for watching and waiting than for direct action. New career initiatives are more likely to bear fruit after the 15th. On into November, you are fully absorbed in visioning new goals for yourself and a life plan that you can subscribe to with your heart and soul as well as your mind. Transformational Astrology with Henry Seltzer continued on page 14...
VIRGO (AUGUST 21-SEPT. 21) These two months you are attempting to integrate the micro and the macro. Normally you specialize in the detailed handling of any particular situation, but the cosmic energy swirling around your brain right now is gently and sometimes suddenly inclining you in quite a different direction. hat quote forever stays in my mind as I enter into my own time of change here at Four Corners Magazine. On a much larger scale, our country is approaching a huge moment of truth as elections draw near, when individuals will be asked to think about what they envision for both their own futures and for the future of our nation. It is a season of change indeed. I find it particularly appropriate that both of these changes occur as the leaves begin to change colors and the harvest season is in full swing. Autumn is my favorite time of year, maybe because it ignites the senses.... the smell of wooden stoves burning, a spicy hot apple cider, the crispness of the air in the morning... something us desert dwellers most certainly welcome. What I enjoy the most, however, is the calmness that comes along with this season. To harvest, or "gather in" for me means a time of reflection. Right now I have much to reflect upon as I enter into this journey as Publisher of Four Corners Magazine, a beautiful publication in which I’ve taken great pride during my past 4 ½ years as Managing Editor. It all seems quite natural that I can step into this role and maintain its core integrity - to be the voice for the increasingly popular progressive community of the Southwest and happily beyond. In essence, this is an opportunity for me to enjoy the fruits of the labor that it's previous Publisher and creative genius, Lane Badger put into it. I will embrace this role as a true gift and continue to bring you, the most valuable aspect of this publication, the reader- a solid magazine, issue after issue. I will enjoy the change that it will bring to my life and hope that you will enjoy the small changes that will come with it as well. In this issue we explore the natural benefits of Transdermal Magnesium, revisit the values of the modern-day family and of course, enjoy arts and entertainment, astrology and other regular columns. I am blessed to work with amazing talent including our artistic director Pamela Becker who always makes the magazine look like a work of art and John Running who captures the most unique angles through his camera lens. During this time of Thanksgiving I will be most thankful that I have the opportunity to be the Publisher of Four Corners Magazine and make a difference in my own community. Thank you to all who have supported this change and support this publication and all for which it stands. It is my hope that we come together even more so, and provide an outlet for creativity, open-mindedness, and exciting news/events. I encourage you to write to me, sharing your thoughts and ideas, bringing new topics to the table. It may even get printed in the next issue! Wishing you a bountiful harvest season, filled with joy! In gratitude and light,

New Human, new earth!
T
here is a question begging to be asked. For fun, let’s ask it: “Which comes first, the New Human or the New Earth? Metaphysically, does it really matter? Whatever the answer, we celebrate, for the time is now for the Evolving Human. It is not difficult for many of us to believe in the possibility that humanity is capable of taking a giant step forward in its evolution. In fact, many of us have been looking forward to it for some time. We may not be able yet to see the change, but we have certainly begun to feel it. Human consciousness is evolving and that evolution is reflected in the human energy anatomy. The Universal Calibration Lattice (UCL) is a system within your energy anatomy whose purpose, when used consciously, is to support, integrate and manage your evolutionary process. (See complete article in June/July 2008 issue of Four Corners for full details.) Understanding the dynamics of the Lattice supports your ability to manifest the dynamics of the new earth/new human as you become more aware of the possibilities for expanding reality within your daily life. To consciously and with intentionality create and live your most enlightened life in today’s changing world requires knowing when to take action and when to be still. There is a fine art to achieving this balance with responsibility. Take “charge” of your life … Every one of your thoughts, words, actions, and emotions generates an energetic “charge”. When you consciously manage and direct all of the energetic charges of your being, greater states of clarity and meaning evolve. Pepper Lewis – channel of Gaia - Mother Earth tells us that humanity is quickly becoming both International and Internatural, terms that will become commonplace soon enough. Our chemistry and physiology is being rearranged. Our fields of energy are becoming more
dynamic, and even the way we relate to space, time, and matter is changing. The more we learn about these changes, the better we will be at interacting consciously and collectively with our own future, as well as that of our evolving galactic race. As teachers, healers, students, and conscious beings of life, it is also our time to generate the energy of unity for our culture as an example of what is possible in the new world. Try this as an exercise or meditation: Ask yourself these three questions. Who am I? Who am I to think that I can change? Who am I to think that I can change my world? When you ask yourself these questions, observe what you are sensing, feeling, imagining, or thinking about. A gentle reminder: all of life is a lesson and the lessons can be joyful! Some ideas to ponder ... You are a human being with free will … Every day, you make choices that hold the potential for change … You are a human being who is a part of the known universe. Your very existence influences the world around you.
Parting thoughts ... There are scientific principles concerning the interconnectedness of all things, and the mutual influence that all events have upon one another. Let's not wait for scientific proof that we are responsible, capable human beings. Let's act as if we are! And if we haven't already begun, let's begin right here, right now. Let us also agree to practice mindful, responsible change everyday. Even the smallest and most subtle of changes will influence our future and that of the world.

Healthy
Harvest
Susun S. Weed
How will you nourish yourself this winter?
A
utumn is the time to harvest what we have tended all summer. And not only to harvest, but to put by, to store, to can, to preserve, to dry, to put down, to freeze. Yes, autumn is the time to see to it that we are supplied with plenty of nourishment for the hard work of staying alive and warm in the winter. Nature is conservative. She stores all the summer's wealth to nourish Her through the winter. Nothing is wasted; nothing is useless; there are no toxins. When we focus on nourishing, we work as Nature does, endlessly recycling nutrients. The world takes on a fresh and joyous aspect as we realize that everything is food for something. As the days shorten and the weather cools, the biennial and perennial plants- those whose roots will survive the cold to reemerge in spring- change their goals. Instead of using nutrients to create leaves, flowers and seeds, they store them in their roots. When you look at the "dead" plants of autumn, think of how many minerals, sugars, plant hormones, vitamins, and poisons (such as alkaloids) are now concentrated in their roots. Additionally, trees create buds that will burst into flower when the weather warms. So autumn is also the time to get ready to go next spring, to be sure that we are healthy, eager, and prepared for what comes after winter. The bright colors of fall leaves are repeated in autumn’s harvest of red tomatoes, orange winter squash, blue corn, and the dark greens and purples of cold-loving kale and collards. Apples scent the air. Acorns, beech nuts, chestnuts, pecans, and walnuts litter the forest floor. September finds me canning tomatoes, freezing cooked greens and sauted summer squash, pressing apple cider, making peach cobbler, and cooking large pots of apple sauce and apple butter. The harvest is sweet. The work is long and hard, hot and exacting. It can’t be put off until tomorrow, for what is ripe today will be rotten tomorrow. It is hard to believe that frost will blacken the leaves of the herbs and kill the tomato and squash vines. It requires a real effort of will to harvest and preserve my aromatic herbs. But the rewards are so tasty and heath-promoting, that I set aside several sunny autumn days to put up herbal vinegars and honeys. They are simple and easy to make, and get me out of the kitchen and away from the steaming pots of simmering apples and tomatoes. To make herbal vinegars, I need vinegar, jars, herbs, and labels; a pair of scissors is handy, too. I
begin by collecting a variety of well-washed jars with non-metal lids. Vinegar pulls minerals into itself. While this is a great way to get lots of minerals from herbs, the minerals that make up lids are neither tasty nor healthy, so I use jars with lids of plastic or cork. I buy at least a gallon of apple cider vinegar at the grocery store. There are numerous reasons to use apple cider vinegar. Studies have found that those who consume at least two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar a day are half as likely to be diagnosed with adult-
for staying healthy in the winter. It's certainly one of my favorites. But I don’t limit myself to mints. I use pine needles to make domestic balsamic vinegar. I put up rose hip vinegar and hawthorn berry vinegar. I dig burdock roots and dandelion roots after the first frosts and
onset diabetes. The vinegar absolutely must be pasteurized. Don’t waste money on fancy raw vinegar at the health food store. To be certain my herbal vinegars will last, I pour the vinegar into a non-metal pot (enamel or glass) and bring it to a boil. After it cools, I'm ready to go. Any aromatic herb can be used to make a vinegar. Mint family plants- including peppermint, spearmint, lemon balm, catnip, bergamot, rosemary, thyme, sage, lavender, marjoram, and oregano- are especially tasty and all are rich in calcium. A tablespoon of mint- family plant vinegar can contain up to 100 mg of bone-building calcium and related minerals. Ordinary basil makes a rather boring vinegar, but the exotic basils such as lemon basil, purple basil, and holy basil make wonderful vinegars. Shiso (Perilla frutescens) makes a glowing red vinegar that is a Japanese favorite

make root vinegars, too. To make a vinegar, I coarsely chop my fresh plants and fill a jar with them. I want the jar full, but not too full, packed in, but not tightly packed. When I press on the plant material in the jar there's a little spring to it. I call this the fairy mattress pack. Too loose and the fairy will fall through. Too tight and the fairy will be bruised. I fill the jar to the top with room-temperature apple cider vinegar, cap, label, and wait patiently for six weeks before using on my salads or, diluted

eeling a little witchy? More powerful than usual? Shamanic? Psychic? It's that time of year again. The veils between worlds are whisper thin as the Earth passes through the Samhain Gateway. With the Sun in Scorpio, Samhain (pronounced 'sow-in' or 'sow-een') skims the boundaries between the "living" and the "dead." This is a special time of connection when we honor the Ancestors and loved ones who have crossed into spirit. We're especially attuned to their guidance, love and wisdom through this portal, which extends from Halloween on October 31 through "true" Samhain (Sun at 15 degrees Scorpio) on November 7. All Saint's Day is November 1, and Dia de las Muertas (All Soul's Day) is November 2. The leaves have fallen. Shadows grow longer as the darkness of winter approaches. Wiccans consider Halloween to be the beginning of the New Year. As the death or end of a cycle, it's also a beginning. This is one of the big power portals of the solar year, the mid-point

between the September Equinox and December Solstice, a bubbling cauldron of possibilities fueled by Scorpio's promise of transcendence. Death is at hand. Communion. Rebirth. The opposition of heavyweights Saturn and Uranus forms a tense t-square with Pluto near the degree of the Galactic Center. Sudden, unexpected changes are on the horizon, designed to dismantle the life we have known to make way for a higher expression. Within the great shift of cosmic cycles that is the context of our lives, this turn of the solar wheel is a passage of empowerment. Death signals an ending and a new beginning, an opportunity to create from the Void. Tap into the creative force of the Universe. Light a candle and invite those who are at peace across the veil to energize your vision of a new reality during this sacred gateway alignment. in water, as a beverage. Making herbal honeys is a little harder, and more expensive, due to the nature and cost of honey. Raw honey will work fine, but ordinary supermarket honey works too. As with the vinegars, fill a jar with your fresh herb. Then pour honey all over it, poking with a chopstick to clear the air bubbles out. Cap, label, and wait for six weeks before use. When I have lots of rosehips, I seed them and cook them in honey until they change color. This vitamin C rich jam is stored in the refrigerator to help me resist cold and flu germs. A spoonful can be eaten as is, spread on toast, or stirred into a cup of hot water. One of my students makes dandelion flower honey this way. Another makes a marvelous ginger honey! Herbal honeys make instant teas. Scoop out a tablespoonful, add boiling water, and drink. Sage soothes sore throats. Lavender relaxes. Rosemary provides antioxidants. Peppermint and spearmint aid digestion and help the lungs, too. A classic Russian cold cure calls for pouring honey over unpeeled garlic cloves. This remedy is ready to use by the spoonful in just 24 hours. The honey acts as a preservative and prevents the garlic from spoiling. What will you preserve this autumn? How will you nourish yourself this winter? Autumn's abundant harvest urges you to make the effort to put something by. Green blessings. Green Blessings susunweed@herbshealing.com • Susun S. lagstaff’s oldest remaining Anglo-American residence will be open to the public for the first time from October 4 through November 2, 2008 for this year’s 19th Annual Trappings of the American West. The McMillan Homestead was built in 1886 on what is now the grounds of the Museum of Northern Arizona and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Trappings at the Homestead will showcase two hundred pieces of contemporary art of the American West in this historic setting. This exhibit also sheds light on Flagstaff ’s founding and its most exceptional early residents. Trappings is the product of Dry Creek Arts Fellowship’s unique vision and its three-year partnership with the Museum. Dry Creek Arts Director, Linda Stedman said, “Trappings combines both fine and functional art of the American cowboy in one exhibit. Visitors will have the opportunity to purchase the juried work of 75 artists from 14 Western states, Hawaii, and Canada. Artistic mediums represented include painting, sculpture, photography, saddles, tooled leather, bits and spurs, boots, hats, knives, engraving, rawhide braiding, and horsehair hitching.” “The pairing of Trappings and the McMillan Homestead is an incredible chance for visitors to learn about Flagstaff’s history and view time-honored traditions of Western art that have their roots in the same time period as Flagstaff’s beginnings,” stated MNA Director, Robert Breunig. To commemorate the U.S. Centennial on July 4, 1876, Flagstaff's first permanent Anglo settler Thomas McMillan joined others to raise a flag on a pine stripped of its bark, near what is now known today as Thorpe Park. The flag and staff stood for years and gave the town its name. Ten years later in 1886, McMillan built his home; a two-story, saltbox structure with logs hewn onsite. Forty years later in 1928, zoologist Dr. Harold S. Colton and artist MaryRussell Ferrell Colton founded the Museum of Northern Arizona. The Homestead, situated across the street from the Museum’s Exhibit Building, was in disrepair. The Coltons restored it and used it as housing for summer visitors and later, as the biology lab and collections area. Several MNA directors, including Ned Danson (father of actor Ted Danson) lived with his family in the Homestead until the mid 1980s. Grand Canyon Trust leased the building until 1997, when another refurbishing treatment was undertaken.

hat if there were a mineral that if properly replenished, could help alleviate arthritis pain, migraines, depression, PMS symptoms, asthma suffering, and heart problems? Would those benefits sound far-fetched? Believe it or not, that is the short list. Magnesium, a seemingly miraculous mineral deficient in most people, has treated fibromyalgia, several types of cardiovascular diseases, ADHD, prevents the formation of kidney stones, increases blood flow, induces relaxation by normalizing nerve impulses, is used intravenously for ER cardiac patients, and has been shown to dramatically diminish birth defects during pregnancy. A pioneer in magnesium research, Dr. Norman Shealy M.D., Ph.D states that “virtually every known disease is associated with magnesium deficiency, including asthma, hypertension, cancer, diabetes, migraine, allergies, myocardial (heart), and depression.” In his scientific study entitled “Transdermal Absorption of Magnesium” published in the Southern Medical Journal. The implications of proper magnesium supplementation are staggering, and thus, may have been hushed up by those who would keep you on risky medications rather than offer the natural preventative measure. How could anyone have known that common ailments for which doctors have collected billions in medical fees could be alleviated by a simple sea-born mineral? Or, that to survive, magnesium is every bit as vital to the human organism as oxygen and water? Were you taught this in science class? No! The role of health educator falls upon each of us individually in this challenging day and age. Health-conscious consumers are re-discovering the simple facts of our existence through the organic food, raw food, and super-food movements, which address the problem of nutritionally deficient foodstuffs in our society. Although magnesium is found in nuts, grains, seeds, leafy greens, and beans, the fact remains that 80% of women and 70% of men are deficient. What can we do to get this miracle mineral absorbed into our bodies quickly? Experts say that magnesium applied transdermally (topically) most effectively raises magnesium levels – which may result in the disappearance of a whole host of mysterious ailments.

The first question on your mind may be, “If magnesium is so great, why haven’t I been convinced sooner to make it part of my wellness routine? Well, when was the last time you heard an M.D. diagnose a magnesium deficiency, or comment on missing nutritional components? It’s extremely rare, and yet for all of its heavily funded medical and disease research institutions, America has one of the highest disease rates in the world. How can this be possible? According to Dr. Mark Sircus Ac., O.M.D., Director of the International Medical Veritas Association, cancer rates in Egypt are 10% of what they are in America, especially in the rural “fhellas,” where magnesium consumption is very high and cancer rates are practically non-existent. At some point we have to admit that “disease research” is faulty, at best. Preventative medicine is being seen as a wiser, more reasonable avenue of study. In her book The Miracle of Magnesium, Dr. Carolyn Dean M.D., N.D. explains that because magnesium is responsible for numerous physiological functions, it plays a key role in heart health and blood circulation. Magnesium is known to regulate more than 300 enzymes in the production, transportation, and utilization of energy, or ATP. It doesn’t take an M.D. though, to see that a body rich in magnesium will have widespread benefits for one’s mental, emotional, and physical well being.

What if common sense prevailed universally and doctors agreed that we are organic beings requiring organic minerals for improved health, and not synthetic chemicals which alter sensitive bodily functions? Everyone at some point has hopped into a warm Epsom Salt bath to soothe their aches and pains. This popular household remedy is actually Magnesium Sulfate. By soaking in it, the body eagerly but temporarily absorbs enough magnesium to “quiet” its painful grumbles after a long day. What the general public may not know is that doctors have clearly known about magnesium’s therapeutic benefits; magnesium is employed in emergency rooms as an intravenous lifesaving therapy for cardiac patients. Intravenous magnesium quickly delivers this critical nutrient to the bloodstream, heart, and organs, helping to normalize the body’s delicate mineral balance to stave off a major trauma. So widespread is its emergency room usage, that the late Dr. Seelig of New York University Medical Center said that magnesium had been incorrectly termed a drug by medical professionals instead of the nutrient it is. Although magnesium is known by some conventional doctors, its history mirrors many other breakthroughs: a good-hearted doctor accidentally discovers its wondrous properties, finds many practical uses and eventually achieves therapeutic success. Then, he notices that illnesses vanish, people feel happier, and concludes that this mineral must be severely lacking and could therefore provide the key to dramatic health improvements. One might assume that this doctor would then achieve widespread acceptance, fortune, and then fame, right? No. Instead, he is stonewalled and criticized. This story in particular belongs to a French Surgeon named Professor Pierre Delbet M.D. In 1915 Dr. Delbet discovered magnesium chloride to be a safe alternative to traditional antiseptics for treating soldiers’ wounds. This discovery led him to use magnesium chloride intravenously to treat a number of diverse conditions including Parkinson’s disease, anaphylactic reactions, and psoriasis with good success. Doctors A. Neveu and Dr. Raul Vergini further documented their treatment success with intravenous magnesium chloride in more recent times, finding even greater results in cancer prevention, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, rheumatic diseases, many allergic diseases, and a host of other ailments. Spanning decades of research, Magnesium treatments seemed to be plausible, highly effective solutions that could bring relief to help millions of sufferers. Why then is it not commonly prescribed for the illnesses listed in this article? Dr. Neveu commented in 1943 why magnesium was not taken seriously by the medical establishment, “Official Medicine saw in magnesium chloride Therapy (sic) a threat to its new and growing business: vaccinations.” But of course things have changed in the 21st century, right? Wrong. A 2006 New York Times article, entitled “Seducing the Medical Profession,” confirmed widespread corruption in medicine, “New evidence keeps emerging that the medical profession has sold its soul in exchange for what can only be described as bribes from the manufacturers of drugs and medical devices”.

Ignorance is no longer bliss. Humans cannot assume they are healthy because they eat a few servings of fresh veggies a day. Time-tested crop rotation techniques used to naturally re-mineralize soil have been utterly ignored. Greed, it seems, has dominated over wisdom or even common sense in today’s market. To meet the demands of the food industry, farmers knowingly grow crops severely deficient in nutrients. A 1936 report, number 264 from the 74th Congress to the Senate stated, “The alarming fact is that foods now being raised on millions of acres of land that no longer contain enough of certain minerals are starving us – no matter how much of them we eat.” Magnesium, called the “most important mineral for man and all living organisms” by professor Dr. Jerry Aikawa in his book Magnesium: Its Biological Significance, is one precious mineral severely lacking in our soil. For those already taking magnesium supplements, choices abound at your local health food store or online nutritional distributors. But which method is most effective? To absorb the high doses of magnesium that our bodies need, Magnesium pioneers Dr. Sircus and Dr. Shealy praise Transdermal Magnesium as the top choice. Applied transdermally, magnesium is absorbed immediately through the skin, offering an absorption rate that is impossible for oral magnesium to accomplish. Author Daniel Reid in his book Tao of Detoxification also endorses magnesium oil, recommending it as a powerful detoxifier and a highly effective underarm deodorant. Many years of laboratory and clinical research, led Sedona-based scientist Dr. Dawn Medicine Wolf M.D.(H) (Ret.) and Biophysicist of Sacred Health, LLC, to further develop unique transdermal and sub-lingual delivery systems which he proved to be 100% effective in “intracellular” absorption and utilization, through the use of ORME’S (Orbitally Re-arranged Molecular Elements) Energy Technology, and a proprietary monatomic PtMVA process. Reports are coming in from around the world about magnesium’s successes. In his ground-breaking book, Dr. Sircus documents some of the remarkable cases for which Transdermal Magnesium had the answer. J. Jones from Washington State suffered from a severe heart condition, diabetes, inflammation, and chronic pain. Her doctor gave her dire news that she was going to die and to prepare her papers for such a tragedy. Using a bit of magnesium oil on the glands below her ears brought her immediate relief, and with it, the hope she had prayed to find. After two weeks she announced, “I now have periods each day where I am pain free, and I am discovering more strength each day… I absolutely love this product (magnesium oil) and believe it has saved my life. I do not type these words casually; I was a dying woman and could feel my life force ebbing away each day… I believe this magic oil knows no limits in healing…” It is the hope of this author that, until modern medicine acknowledges acute nutritional deficiencies as the root cause of many diseases, that many will find relief by restoring precious life-giving minerals like magnesium in their bodies. It’s good to know that sometimes, simple solutions exist for life’s complex problems. Miguel Montoya has been actively researching health and nutrition for ten years. He offers holistic wellness sessions, teaching meditation, relaxation, tai chi, and fitness principles. He has been a contributing writer to Four Corners since 2002.

Transformational Astrology continued from page 3...
AQUARIUS (JANUARY 20-FEB. 17) It is an interesting period of time that you are engaged in right now. With potential confusion over motivation and in deciding just how cause and effect works its way out in your life, you are moving forward in spite of being tempted to hold back and rest on previous laurels. New perspectives on your life come daily, and some will not have legs, so that you are beset with uncertainties in the midst of your essential optimism. Inner conviction takes you far, no matter what outer appearances may seem to indicate. On into November, after a time of reflection, you are ready to emerge once more into the fray. If you can maintain your trust in the universe to guide you, you will find that things will work themselves out to your ultimate best advantage.
PISCES (FEBRUARY 18-MARCH 19) Change is in the air for you this month, Pisces. You have been exploring your options lately, and now in many ways you see your path more clearly opening up before you. In moving forward you must also exercise caution, because your priorities may shift as Mercury changes direction on the 15th and once again as it finally regains lost ground on the 28th. Ideas for a better future and for making a clean break with the past might have to yield to conflicting practical concerns, or perhaps vice-versa. It is good to remember, always, that whatever course you decide upon, the universe backs you up one hundred percent once you have come to a decision that aligns with your own deep intuition. Henry Seltzer, transformational astrologer and creator of the TimePassages astrology software, is based in Santa Cruz, California. The work of man’s hands though often praiseworthy and exquisite, cannot compensate for a loss of the multi-layered balance, grace and elegant expression of nature. In fact, great art that feeds the soul and inspires the mind is that which for brief, captured moments lifts the veil from the face of the physical; exposing the indwelling Divinity that animates all life. It is that which is commonly found in what might be called the lowliest “weed” in a forgotten corner of our garden. Enjoying with gratitude the comforts and elegance of our environment is representative of a well-rounded character. When they become more than a means to an end; more than tools that enhance freedom and learning it is time to return to nature - the place of solace and that which mirrors the elegance within our souls. ...From the Upcoming Video Diaries of Almine called The Earth Wisdom Chronicles www.spiritualjourneys.com

he search for elegance is an integral part of the human soul and when denied finds expression in deviant ways. Elegance, though endlessly multi-faceted is not based on arbitrary standards. It is based on the creations of nature and when our connection with nature becomes severed; our innate understanding of elegant expression does also. Throughout the ages, whenever a society bogs down under social strictures and conditioning, divorcing itself from natural life, excesses ensue. In “polite” Victorian society, the burden of the supposed elegant life became so consuming that its excesses left hardly any room for individual expression. The care of man-made elegance required an infrastructure that served it, rather that it serving man. Many servants and trade’s people bolstered this ballooning materialism that set the tone for the industrialism and materialism of the twentieth century. The delicate balance of nature was ruthlessly pillaged and destroyed as its resources were used to feed the mounting urgency for elegance.

"The Third Jesus" – Unity Webcast with Deepak Chopra- Explores "Jesus and the Awakening To God-Consciousness” Series Begins October 15th on www.unity.fm Is it time for the teachings of Jesus to transcend traditional Christianity? Some say they always have, but now is the time for millions to understand and embrace this truth. In his latest book, The Third Jesus, international bestselling author and spiritual leader Deepak Chopra explains, "There is not one Jesus, but three. First there is the historical Jesus, the man who lived more than two thousand years ago and whose teachings are the foundation of Christian theology and thought. Next there is Jesus, the Son of God, who has come to embody an institutional religion with specific dogma, a priesthood, and devout believers. And finally, there is the third Jesus, the cosmic Christ, God-consciousness.” Now, premiering October 15th at 6-PM ET, the Unity School of Christianity and the Association of Unity Churches present a six-part webcast series on www.unity.fm that explores this controversial yet expansive view of Jesus and his teachings in conversations with Deepak Chopra. Hosting will be Rev. Wendy Craig-Purcell, founding minister and CEO of The Unity Center in San Diego. Each segment will be available free of charge. All segments will be available after their initial airing until November 26. This is an important and liberating perspective. "We’re not trying to change anyone’s mind or beliefs. We’re just offering an alternative view," says Paula Coppel, V.P. of Communications at Unity School of Christianity in Unity Village, Mo. "We understand that this material is controversial and will probably upset some viewers," says Craig-Purcell. “But Jesus, after all, was controversial himself and radical in his time, so we are in good company." Coppel and Craig-Purcell are available for interviews. For more information, visit www.unity.fm.

met an artist who creates crafts with four-leaf clovers, which she uses to adorn gift boxes, bookmarks, and other inventive items. When I asked her how she finds all of these prizes, she explained, “I just have a knack for it. On my last expedition, I found 150 fourleaf clovers.” “That’s amazing!” I replied. “How long did it take you to find them?” “About fifteen minutes,” she answered. I was astounded. If you have every searched for four-leaf clovers, you have likely found perhaps one or two in a fifteenminute stint. She found 150! How lucky can you get? The answer has nothing to do with luck, and everything to do with belief, expectation, motivation, intention, and focus. The universe is abundant with all things, and it will happily deliver whatever you seek if your mind is open to receive and you are sufficiently attuned to the object of your desire. While many people ascribe the results of their efforts to luck, fate, karma, astrological influences, and a gamut of external sources, experience is determined more by consciousness than any other factor. The artist I described is so immersed in four-leaf clover consciousness that the clovers show up practically everywhere she looks. You, too, are finding plenty of what you are looking for. You can tell what you are looking for by what you are finding. If you are finding love, joy, connection, creativity, and celebration, that is what you are looking for. If you are finding separation, upset, fear, pain, and conflict, that is what you are looking for. The Law of Attraction is drawing unto you that which is a match to the vision you are using. You can change what you are getting by shifting your attention to objects you truly value. Your attention is the strongest currency at your disposal. Whatever you point it at grows. So quit thinking, feeling, and talking about what you have gotten that you don’t want, and think, feel, and talk about what you do want. You will be amazed at how quickly the universe rearranges itself to accommodate your picture of reality! I met a woman who had been told by a doctor that she had six months to live. She went home and decided that if she wanted to live, she would have to entirely change the way she was thinking about her life. So she switched from resistance to flow; from disdain to appreciation; and from fear to trust. That was many years ago. Her disease disappeared and health found its rightful place in her world. All positive change begins with attitudinal upgrade. Thomas Jefferson declared, “I find that the harder I work, the more luck I have.” I would replace the “hard work” phrase with, “the more I focus my consciousness on success.” Have you noticed that people who have bad luck seem to keep having it? And people who have good luck seem to keep having it? That’s because those with bad luck keep focusing on the bad, and those who have good luck keep focusing on the good. If people with bad luck started to focus on the good, their “luck” would change.
How many four-leaf clovers are out there? As many as you look for, and you are open to receive. This principle applies as well to wonderful mates, jobs, and buyers for your house. “Seek, and you will find. Ask, and it is given. Knock, and it shall be opened to you.” The laws of manifestation are solid, reliable, and unbiased. They will gladly work in your favor if you understand how to use them and you apply them consistently. Then you won’t need “the Luck of the Irish.” You will have the consciousness of a creator.
The answer has nothing to do with luck, and everything to do with belief, expectation, motivation, intention, and focus.

Winds of Change A letter from Barry and Cynthia, creators of Wisdom of the Earth Essential Oils
Dear Readers, The winds of change are upon us as we enter this fall season. We say good-bye to summer and outward motion and prepare to start our journey inward. Thinking about the Earth and her natural changes leads me to thinking about the changes that are happening to our planet. In this present day, we are dealing with gloabl warming, our political arena is in flux and if we are in tune we feel all of this on a deeper level. So many of us have been on a path of un-ending self-discovery. We have been meditating for years, read many spiritual and self-help books and visited gurus and shamans. We have participated in a variety of ceremonies, taken class after class, and still at times, we are unable to harvest our own energies. It is time to get our house in order, as Barry likes to say. Time to pull inside of yourself and prepare for the winter. Time to prepare for the tumultuous changes that are taking place in our reality. Being prepared takes away the fear and allows you to take a trip into the heart. I for one, am grateful that I have the assistance of the Plant and Tree Kingdom. Using a Spruce or Pine oil on your crown chakra will extend your energies to the heavens as well as rooting you to the Earth. Adding a flower blossom such as Rose, Violet, Ylang Ylang or Lavender will allow the heart to open gently to you and to your heart mind, so you can start to navigate your world from that sacred space. I have had many conversations with beautiful Gaia and I am sure that if we are connected to her, to the sky and to our hearts, we will always be taken care of. I read an interesting article recently from Maureen Moss and in it she states that we have not come this far to be scared. All the work that we have done should give us courage and stamina to be free from fear, and to stand in our Magnificent Self. We should not grovel or cower and give in to fear. If you can do this, you will move through this glorious time of transition with grace and ease. Change is good and there are countless changes coming our way. We chose to be here for this time, and therefore, we can ride this wave with community, peace and love. I know that you and I will meet once again in the space of the heart. Don’t Wait for 2012 THE SHIFT IS NOW! Transforming Challenges into Blessings
T
Jack Allis
he Earth has entered an exceedingly rare geophysical and astrophysical age, known as The Shift or The Great Shift of the Ages. It is the completion of a 26,000-year cycle, which was well understood, and prophesized by ancient cultures spanning the globe, including the Mayans, the Hopis and the Egyptians. The Shift involves forces of colossal magnitude, such as the reversing of the Earth’s magnetic poles, and its entrance into a vast intergalactic energy field, known as The Photon Belt. In general, The Shift involves a shift of the Earth’s vital energy fields, and forces that have the potential to change the face of the planet, and life on it, forever. The specific date that is often targeted as the turn-over point, kind of like the clock striking midnight on New Year’s Eve, is December 21, 2012, which was the date the Mayan calendar ended. Of our sources in this area, the Mayans and a few others are the only ones to pinpoint a specific date. Most of the others point to this general time period. On the basis of my research, it is important that we don’t get attached to any specific date because it appears that the Shift is a gradual process, and that it is well underway. There is credible scientific evidence to support this. The most obvious is global warming. The Earth is unquestionably warming up, and contrary to what some folks would like us to believe, only a small part of this is due to human pollution. The entire Solar System - Earth, Moon, Sun, all the other planets, and all the space in between - is warming up, due to its entrance into this higher frequency energy field. The Earth’s electromagnetic field is also diminishing, and has been for a long time, possibly as long as 2000 years. This is also occurring at an accelerating rate, and is approaching zero. What happens when it gets there we don’t know. We do know that electromagnetism is the force that holds matter together, and when the nature of matter changes, all reality changes. Inversely to this, it is also a scientific fact that the Earth’s Base Resonant Frequency is increasing at an accelerating rate. This is the frequency at which the energy that constitutes matter vibrates. It is the equivalent of the Earth’s heartbeat. Other clear manifestations of the fact that the Shift is already happening are the dramatic increase in extreme weather, earthquake, volcano, and tsunami activity. The Earth is feeling it. On a more subjective level, in addition to the Earth, people are also feeling these energy shifts. We can all feel that something’s going on; something’s happening. The world feels different, more intense. Time itself seems like it’s speeding up, which it is. For many, things seem to be breaking. Material third dimensional reality feels like it’s coming apart, which it is. And spiritual people can feel the higher frequency energy in which we are enveloped. The world feels lighter and brighter. Most people lack a frame of reference for these changes. They are simply feeling things they have never felt before, and the world seems like it’s going haywire. This causes feelings of fear, anxiety and helplessness, and pretty soon they’re going haywire along with it, either
physically, mentally, spiritually, or all of the above. One of my purposes here is to provide that frame of reference. As always, understanding dispels fear and uncertainty. It’s a pretty good guess that things are going to get quite a bit more chaotic before they settle down. And this might be just what is needed to shake things up, and create an environment for real change. Yet, my purpose here is not to fan the flames of any doomsday scenario. Quite the contrary. All the ancient indigenous prophecies have one vital thing in common. They tell us that this is a time of potentially monumental transformation, in which humanity has this exceedingly rare and blessed opportunity to dimensionally create an entirely new world. They also tell us that our old-paradigm civilization, built as it is upon the foundation of physical matter, as opposed to spirituality, and upon the foundation of controlling the forces of nature, as opposed to harmonizing with them, cannot possibly sustain itself. So, those of us who believe in creating the new world celebrate the end of the old paradigm, and the temporary chaos this will bring. The Earth has been terribly abused for a very long time. It is in need of a cleansing, and so are its inhabitants. And the Earth will cleanse itself, whether we like it, or not. The solution is really quite simple. It all comes back to us. The fate of the planet rests in our hands. Changing the world starts with changing ourselves. In order to create the new paradigm we must do a few exceedingly important things. We must reclaim our minds and our spirits, and we must take back responsibility for the world we create. We must wake up to the fact that we have allowed ourselves to be duped by the hidden powers that rule the world into giving away our freedom and our spirit. And we must align ourselves with the shifting energies in the world, so that rather than being overwhelmed by them, we are in harmony with them. We must raise our frequency to match the rising frequency around us. And there’s nothing new about any of this. The primary reason the third dimensional world got so messed up to begin with is because humanity allowed itself to become unplugged. Humanity lost its connection to life’s vital energies, and to the rhythm and flow of life. When enough of us reestablish that connection, we become a force that cannot be stopped. This is the primary source of our power and protection. This is what’s known as critical mass. We don’t know at what point critical mass is. We do know it only takes a small percentage of us reconnecting to the true source of our power for critical mass to kick in. Critical mass is a new paradigm, not an old paradigm, concept. This means it works on the basis of energetic, spiritual and magical principles. This is the source of our power to create the new world. FDA Unleashes Mass Irradiation of Spinach, Lettuce and Other Vegetables The FDA has announced that beginning today, spinach and lettuce sold across the United States may now be secretly irradiated before it reaches grocery store shelves. What's "secret" about it? The FDA previously decided that irradiation warning stickers would not be required on any food items because it would be "too confusing to consumers." (The word IRRADIATION apparently has too many letters to be understood to food buyers.) Thus, irradiated foods will not be labeled as such, and consumers are going to be left in the dark about all this (except for those who actually eat the irradiated food, in which case they will glow in the dark). The FDA, of course, insists that the levels of irradiation used to kill e.coli will have no effect whatsoever on the nutritional value of the food. This astonishing statement comes from an agency that doesn't believe food has any nutritional value in the first place, so lowering the value to zero by destroying all the phytonutrients does not, in the opinion of the FDA, alter its nutritional value at all. Thus, destroying all the anti-cancer nutrients in a head of broccoli merely brings that broccoli into "compliance" as a nonfunctional food, according to the FDA. Radiation, of course, destroys delicate phytochemicals in plants - the very phytochemicals protecting consumers against cancer, heart disease, high cholesterol, inflammation and other diseases. Microwaving broccoli, for example, destroys up to 98% of its anticancer nutrients. (The FDA has not yet acknowledged this scientific fact, either.) In a similar way, irradiating food destroys much of its nutritional content, including vitamins, carotenoids, anthocyanins and other delicate protective nutrients that are right now providing the last, desperate nutritional defense against the American diet of meat, milk, fried foods and processed junk. Irradiating fresh produce will leave the U.S. population is a state of extreme deficiency in protective plant-based nutrients.

PUMPKIN PIE RECIPE
Denise Bennett
Ingredients: 1/2 c Pumpkin... 1/8 tsp Ginger... 1/4 c Walnuts... 10 Gogi Berries... 3 Dates... 1 squeeze of Orange... 1 tbsp Coconut... 1 tsp Agave... 1/4 tsp Vanilla... pinch of Nutmeg
I
have several variations for this holiday pie. I often add banana because of its excellent consistency and sweet flavor. For something special, I will add a layer of cacao, which is raw chocolate, to the bottom. The possibilities are endless so get creative and see what develops! For this crust, I use walnuts. 1 Use a food processor or coffee grinder to crush the walnuts. 2 Add the dates, making sure the crust is fairly sticky. If you are using a juicer-type unit then you'll want to process the nuts and dates together. 3 Add some cinnamon. 4 Wipe down machine before making filling. Separate out the pumpkin flesh and toss or compost the seeds and rind. 5 Combine the pumpkin with the remaining ingredients, add a squeeze of orange, and spoon the mixture over the crust. 6 To decorate pie: sprinkle shredded coconut over the top or try outlining your own design in Gogi berries. (Please note that the seasonings above are impossible to find in raw form.) Enjoy! * All measurements are approximate and subject to taste OCT/NOV ‘08

AFTER LIFE Film Review by Stephen Simon
E
very once in a while, a film comes along with such an intriguing premise that we sit bolt upright in our chairs when we first see a preview for it or read about it. In Hollywood parlance, a “home-run” premise is worth its weight in celluloid. Of course, we are sometimes elated and sometimes disappointed when we see the actual film. As Forrest Gump so eloquently said, “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're going to get.” AFTER LIFE is a Japanese film that was shot about ten years ago. The film made a quick appearance (with very little publicity) on the U.S art house circuit and then quickly disappeared. To reveal too much about the plot and the various choices that people make about their one special memory would ruin the surprises of the film; moreover, it's the premise itself that begs further discussion. A memory involves a certain group of people (or maybe just one person or a favorite pet or a favorite nature encounter) at a particular time and place. Choosing one memory might, and almost certainly probably would, exclude some other cherished loved ones. For many, there would be great excitement and comfort in picking that one moment, while for others it could be an excruciatingly difficult decision. That's what makes the film so fascinating. We sit there and watch the choices that people make on screen and, all the while, we're processing our own decision. Do I believe that such a choice awaits us after life? No, I don't, but the film led to amazing reflections and discussions for many, many weeks after I saw it. That is, to me, one the hallmarks of a very special and deeply spiritual film experience. So….which memory would YOU choose? AFTER LIFE is the feature film in the Vol. 11 collection of films from Spiritual Cinema Circle www.spiritualcinemacircle.com 800-556-0129 Stephen Simon is the Co-founder of The Spiritual Cinema Circle.

A DRUID'S HERBAL OF SACRED TREE MEDICINE Book by Ellen Evert Hopman
T
he Druids used the ancient Ogham Tree Alphabet to work magic and honor the dead, surrounding each letter with medicinal and spiritual lore. Poets and bards created a secret sign language to describe the letters, each of which is named for a tree or a plant. For centuries this language was only transmitted orally in order to protect its secrets. Combining her extensive herbal knowledge and keep poetic insight, Ellen Evert Hopman delves deeply into the historic allusions and associations of each of the twenty letters of the Ogham Tree Alphabet. She also examines Native American healing methods for possible clues to the way ancient Europeans may have used these trees as healing agents. Druidic spiritual practices, herbal healing remedies, and plant lore are included for each tree in the alphabet as well as how each is used in traditional rituals such as the Celtic Fire Festivals and other celebrations. Hopman also includes a pronunciation guide for the Oghams and information on the divinatory meanings associated with each tree.

“Reality, or truth, is not something that you can create; it is that which contains you. It holds you — you are existing in the lap of reality. It's just that reality has not yet become your living experience.”
F
irst we need to know that the basis of our misery is that we have established ourselves in untruth. We are deeply identified with that which we are not. Somewhere along the way we have gotten identified with things around us. We have got identified with our body and mind. That is the source of suffering. Whatever you have known right now, your experience is only limited to your five sense organs. Whatever you have known either of the world or yourself has come to you only by seeing, hearing, smelling, touching and tasting. If these five senses go to sleep, you will neither know the world nor yourself. They feel everything only in comparison. So this is not a matter. Whatever your idea of God is, it is simply coming from the limited experience of who you are right now. It is not coming from any true experience. The only thing that you can experience is that which is within you. And that which is within you, you have never really looked at in real depth. The whole experience of transcending your limitations must happen within you. If you want to transcend, only if you are truly willing, it can happen. Otherwise, no power on earth or in heaven can move your recognition of divinity, and we will see that there is no reason for misery in the world. The whole process of yoga is to make your interiority absolutely in your control. It is a possibility to move from a state of exter nal enslavement to inner completeness, which is the state
of unboundedness. If your inner nature is unbounded, your life is also unbounded. You can either sit with your eyes closed or you can perform different action – both ways your life can be complete. When a man has reached this state within himself, where his actions are only to the extent required for outer life situations, then he is a complete person. If within you, your inner nature has attained fulfillment regardless of the external situation, we can say that you have become unbounded. This is a state of true happiness. Discover This R & R Yoga Pose Rodney Yee and Colleen Saidman
Version 1: Crossed Legs
I
f you only learn one yoga posture, LegsUp-the-Wall Pose gets our vote. This is one of the most therapeutic poses in yoga allowing you to fully relax and rejuvenate in less time than a nap. Once you try it, you'll understand why our students even practice this pose at work! Legs-Up-the-Wall Pose encourages smooth, easy breathing that soothes the nervous system helping to relieve headaches, insomnia and anxiety. It relaxes the digestive organs, helping to alleviate indigestion and nausea. This inverted posture helps reduce varicose veins and swollen feet, and also gently stretches the back of the legs waking up tired, sore legs and feet. With the return of blood from the legs to the heart, the circulatory system functions with ease and helps support the lymphatic system in removing waste and toxins. You'll need a clear wall and one thick, firm blanket. Practice for three to ten minutes. We've included three versions for you to try. If you have tight hamstrings, you'll find Version 1 the most relaxing because your legs will not be stretched against the wall. For Version 3, you'll need one yoga bolster (or two thick blankets). Caution: Do not do Legs-Up-theWall Pose if you have serious back, neck or eye problems.
Play with the basic principles of this pose while listening to your body and asking what it needs. www.gaiamyogaclub.com/bonus.

Dreamscapes with Paul Lawrence Curtis continued from page 25...
room. There was an existing painting of the Taj Mahal and a Bengal tiger that floated freely in the middle of the wall. I had the idea to encompass both images into a dreamscape that would capture the imagination of the diners. When the new owner Raman took over, it was a definite improvement for both the atmosphere and quality of the food. He enthusiastically said yes to my proposal for a wall mural, and I took him through a series of sketches, excited that my vision would finally come into fruition. I painted over the existing Taj Mahal, to bring out its magical light qualities, and set it in the background against an extended mountain range and beautiful Sedona-style blue sky. I also kept the large Bengal tiger, but painting over her in my own style to accentuate her vibrant orange and black colors. Including Rhada and Krishna was just a fun addition to the mural... if you look closely there is even a small UFO situated nearby. It was the addition of orange and mango trees, the owner Raman and his wife Rawinda beside the Taj Mahal water feature, Lakshmi the Goddess of wealth, a mother and daughter grinding corn and other animals that brought my vision to life. It may have taken ten years to accomplish this dream-come-true, but if you visit the new improved India Palace, and meet Raman and his family, I think you'll agree the restaurant has taken on a positive transformation, one you will thoroughly enjoy. OCA Plants Peace at the Republican National Convention
T
he Organic Consumers Association's "Planting Peace" brigade actively participated in a series of rallies, street protests, and concert/teach-ins at the Republican National Convention, along with tens of thousands of other participants. OCA's Planting Peace contingent supplied organic food and literature to musicians, volunteers, and protesters at the inspirational "Ripple Effect" concert and march on September 2, which culminated in a massive and dramatic street march on the RNC. Throughout the week, despite teargas, police dragnets, and intimidation (heavily-armed police at one point, pointed their guns and threatened OCA's lawyer and Political Director, Alexis BadenMeyer), OCA staff and volunteers spread the positive message that a local, energy-efficient, and Fair Trade system of organic food and farming represents a lifesaving cure for America's current "quadruple crisis" of food, health, climate, and energy. As OCA Director Ronnie Cummins emphasized at a St.Paul educational event on September 1, called the "Tumblewood Cabaret", "We must make the nation's green and organic economy the dominant economy." But of course, as you probably already know, there is very little hope for an organic and green future without regime change in Washington and an end to the bloody, multitrillion dollar wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Please check out OCA's Planting Peace website and campaign, designed to bring about cooperation and synergy between the peace movement, the climate crisis movement, and the organic community: www.organicconsumers.org/plantingpeace.cfm

greening the kitchen can be easy with small changes
T
· Start with what you bring into the kitchen. Buy as much food that is locally produced as you can, so that fuel isn't wasted trucking it to you. Also, forgo the paper-or-plastic debate by sticking to reusable bags you take to the store. · Skip the disposables. Whether it is for a picnic or a party, opt for utensils, dishes and bakeware that can be reused, to save on resources. Invest in a set of cloth napkins, and turn old sheets, towels, or clothing into rags for cleaning by cutting them into small pieces. · Keep it going. Stick a wicker basket in your kitchen to contain all of the items destined for recycling. Once the day is over or the basket is full, just take it to the larger bins to be sorted. You can also reuse your raw vegetable leftovers and scraps by setting up a composting system and using the collected matter in your garden. · Drink home water. Skip buying the bottles of water and invest in a water filtration device for your kitchen. You'll save a lot of money in the end and will avoid adding to the water-bottle problem our country faces.

here is a color sweeping the nation and its green! Many people are beginning to understand the impact, or carbon footprint, that their lifestyle choices make on the planet. And they are looking for ways to reduce that impact. The kitchen is one of the most ideal rooms in the home for starting to go green. Its not only the center of the house and where most people gather, but is also filled with activity as things are brought in and out of it, each week. "Going green is in, and that is a good thing," says Chef Paul F. Magnant, Dean of Culinary at Stratford University. It is better for the planet and our health. And the good news is that it doesn't have to break the bank. People don't have to do a 180 overnight. Making small changes here and there can add up to big results, over time. Even making a decision to choose and follow through with makes an impact. Here are a few "greening your kitchen" tips that will net positive results. See which ones you could most easily make in your kitchen, and then get started:
"Going green is in, and that is a good thing," says Chef Paul F. Magnant, Dean of Culinary at Stratford University. It is better for the planet and our health.
· Clean green. You will save money by using natural cleaning supplies, and you will keep unnecessary chemicals out of the environment, as well. Take a spray bottle and put equal parts water and distilled vinegar in it; this can be used as an all-purpose cleaner for everything from counters to sinks. · Think big. When it is time to buy new appliances, opt for ones that are energyefficient by specifically looking for the Energy Star endorsement. Energy Star is a government-backed initiative that ensures you are buying an energy-efficient product. Making a couple of changes each year will have your kitchen as green as can be before you know it. Stratford University's culinary arts program offers several degrees, including concentrations in baking and pastry, as well as advanced culinary arts. The school also offers non-degree public one-day culinary courses covering such topics as beginner baking, knife skills, vegetarian cooking and cake decorating, as well as parent-and-child cooking. FAMILY
A A
family? What’s that? Is it the “traditional” structure of pie-making mom, briefcase-toting dad, and scrubbed-and-smiling kids, all surrounded by a white picket fence? Is it a lesbian couple with an adopted baby from China? Who knows these days? In the end, it may be a little like the late Justice Potter Stewart’s assessment of pornography; it’s hard to define, but you’ll know it when you see it.
How to The Universal Declaration of Human Rights has a definition. It says that “The family is the natural and fundamental group unit of society and is entitled to protection by society and the State.” That’s an all-inclusive definition if ever there was one, leaving a great deal up to the interpretation of the reader. To be more pragmatic, you know you’re in a family if you share: The chores: Running a household requires food preparation, errands, repairs and maintenance, and at least a perfunctory cleaning from time to time. If one person does it all and the other pays rent, that’s not a family, that’s a boarding house. Money: Families may or may not commingle funds, but they do make agreements about how money and expenses are divvied up. More importantly, if unforeseen needs come up, “family” pitches in. The good news (and the bad): Who you call first with big news is an indicator of who’s family and who’s not. A history: When a new family forms, a new history is crafted and then shared with any additional newcomers to the family (children, most likely). A future committment: “Family” is based on the idea that the members will be there for each other over the long haul. Life may intervene, but the plan is to be a “fundamental group unit” until death. Some form of sex: At least in the beginning. Or, in the absence of sex, at least an intimacy that’s not shared with another person or group of people. In the end, you are each other’s priority. So that’s a family. And it’s not getting the crucial support or respect it needs and deserves, says Howard B. Schiffer, author of How to Be A Family: The Operating Manual (Heartful Loving Press, 2004). “Everything in this culture works against the family,” Schiffer says. “If we were really motivated by family values, we’d get a month or two off every year, and we’d have high-quality child care that is easily available and affordable.” It’s not easy to change public policy, but on the home front we can and do have power. Schiffer’s central principle is, “If you hold the family as a sacred trust, the rest will fall into place.” How? With these suggestions from Schiffer and others who are reclaiming the meaning of “family values.” No one family can focus on them all, but these ideas all move in the direction of fostering connectivity and not of the electronic kind.

1 TALK ABOUT IT. Years ago, a birth coach advised her expectant families to be sure that throughout the years they always reserve at least 10 minutes for one-on-one time with each child, every day. The new parents could hardly believe such advice was necessary; wouldn’t they be devoting hours each day? When the number of children adds up, and work and school schedules pile on, it’s not as easy as it seems. Make time to listen to adult and child family members in the car, at the table, in a bed, whenever you’re able. And then be willing to share some thoughts from your own private life as well.

be a family 2 STAY IN TOUCH. From the youngest child to the oldest greatgrandparent, being touched is one of the core signals of love. Science has shown that animals wither away without it. Humans are animals, too. Often during the teen years, parents curtail their hugs, fearful that touch equates with sexuality. Break away from that pattern, and give your kids a squeeze (whenever they’ll let you). And your spouse, too; demonstrate your love and set a good “handson”example. 3 FOSTER EVERYONE’S EMOTIONAL SIDE. Some of us naturally developed a high “emotional quotient,” or “emotional intelligence,” and others of us were taught to suppress that side of ourselves. Therapists have a booming business helping adults locate, identify or express their emotions. Do your children a favor and help them with this early on. This advice from the authors of Raising Emotionally Intelligent Teenagers: Guiding the Way for Compassionate, Committed, Courageous Adults (Three Rivers Press, 2000) works for everyone, not just oneís offspring: to teach emotional intelligence, use it. 4 GIVE PRIORITY TO YOUR ADULT RELATIONSHIP. (if there is one.) That relationship may predate any children, and it (hopefully) will outlast the years the children are in the house. Says Gail Sawchuk, the executive director of Boulder’s Parenting Place, “It’s easy especially for the mom to forget to involve the dad” at the early stages. While babies do have priority in many ways, it’s not long before toddlers can learn to wait a very few minutes, and preschoolers can learn that “This is Mommy and Daddy’s time now. All too often, the “focus on the family” ends up meaning “the focus on the children,” and that’s when the loving well runs dry. 5 EAT TOGETHER. We’ve all heard that one of the best ways to ensure that children grow up happily is to eat dinner as a family most nights of the week. So do it. The food isn’t the issue - scrambled eggs are fine. It’s the conversation, the exchange of ideas, and the consideration one for the other that matters. This is true for adultsonly families, too. Couples can work hard all day, but then commit to meeting in the kitchen and cooking dinner. Together. No television, no distractions. It’s about the family glue of connection. 6 PLAY TOGETHER. Says Schiffer, this means being conscious about preserving family time. “We lose out by being the nice parent and letting the kids go off” with peers instead of with family. Instead, he suggests that parents say “no, we’re doing something together tonight because in five years you won’t be here.” Of course, make sure it’s a fun time for everyone. Just as “date night” is important when the children are young, “family night” matters when children get older. And it doesn’t have to be a big deal; staying home with games and popcorn are often the best times of all. 7 TAKE TIME OUTS - FOR EVERYONE. While connecting is the essential job of families, it’s also important for each family member, no matter how young or old, to have alone time. Toddlers will learn that the crib is a good place to be for 20 minutes after a nap, just looking at books or playing with a loved toy. For adults, alone time helps recharge batteries, stabilize and ground, and ultimately bring more back to the family as a whole. 8 A I M T O P R O V I D E E N O U G H - A N D N O T M O R E . Enough is satisfying; focusing on “more” means focusing on dissatisfaction. How Much Is Enough? Everything You Need to Know To Steer Clear of Overindulgence and Raise Likeable, Responsible, and Respectful Children by Jean Illsley Clark, Connie Dawson, and David Bredhoft (2004,
Wendy Underhill
Marlowe and Co.) offers a simple rubric that helps parents know when something is enough and not too much. Answer these questions: Is the item or activity appropriate developmentally? Does it fit within family resources? Does it meet the child’s needs (as opposed to the needs of the parents)? Is it harmless? If the answers are “yes,” it’s not overindulgence. These same questions work almost as well when reviewing adult decisions. 9 READ TOGETHER. With young children, reading is a sign of love, just as being held is. By the teen years, there’s no greater sign of appreciation than an adult who is willing to read a book that they recommend. And as an adult, I absolutely adore the times when my husband, or children for that matter, are willing to read out loud to me. 10 SHARE THE LOAD. It’s good for the adults, and it’s good for the kids. Since everybody benefits from having clean clothes and food in the fridge, everybody needs to help; it’s simply part of being a human. The more matter-of-fact this familial understanding is, the better. 11 L AUGH L OUDLY, AND OFTEN . Humor goes a long way toward lightening burdens and teaching flexibility. If your family can’t find its funny bone, stimulate belly laughs with silly movies or games; a rousing round of charades or Pictionary is guaranteed to encourage guffaws. 12 G E T O U T D O O R S . Children, we’ve heard recently, are suffering from “nature deficit disorder.” Guess what? So are most adults. And something about nature inspires deeper connection with your partner. Take a long hike, a ski trip, even a brisk walk around the block. If it has to be after the kids are in bed, all the better; there’s nothing like a walk under the stars to inspire intimate conversation. 13 C REATE TRADITIONS . Some of us come equipped with traditions from past generations. Some of us don’t. It’s fine to make or re-make your own traditions for your family. Ideas? Hold hands in silence before starting a meal; pass “appreciations” around the table once a week; light candles to indicate that the workday is done; share favorite (and least favorite) parts of the day. Traditions can be seasonal, too, like eating potato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches on Christmas Eve, or celebrating the last day of school with a cookout. 14 T EACH TOLERANCE . Families are not created with likeminded people, all in common cause. They’re diverse; that’s what “the black sheep” idea is all about. So, family is a great place to practice tolerance for those with different perspectives and even different values. What a lesson for adults to take out into the greater world, too. 15 C OUNT YOUR BLESSINGS . (and help your children count theirs). This may come in the way of an evening ritual at bedtime or mealtime, or by consciously trying to mention “I felt lucky today when...” As adults, it may mean jotting down three good things each day. However it is done, focusing on the positive will help develop the positive. Why is this so important? Grateful people are happier, more resilient, and develop better relationships. And that’s what a great family is all about - happiness, resiliency and relationships. What is a relic? Throughout the world, holy relics are enshrined in cathedrals, temples, sacred statues, and monasteries. Relics can be the bodies, portions of the body, or even personal effects of spiritual masters and saints. The vast majority of the relics in the Heart Shrine Tour, however, are pearl-like crystals, called ringsel, that are found in the cremation ashes of Buddhist masters. These ringsel are special because they hold the essence of the qualities of the spiritual masters, says Lama Zopa Rinpoche, the Spiritual Director of the Maitreya Project. Their inner purity appears in the form of relics. True spiritual teachers do not generally discuss their own attainments. The relics are physical evidence that the teacher attained qualities of compassion and wisdom before death. The relics provide a unique opportunity to make a personal spiritual connection with enlightened beings. These masters deliberately chose to leave relics behind so that we can create the causes for our own happiness. Regarding the relics of Shakyamuni Buddha, he stresses, These relics of the Buddha are manifestations of the Buddha himself… The only karma we have is to see the Buddha in the form of relics, so that is how the Buddha still guides us. Buddha manifests in the form of relics so we can develop devotion, purify our negative karma, and collect extensive merit, and in this way he brings us sentient beings to enlightenment. One does not have to be seeking

n or around 483 BCE, it is believed that Shakyamuni Buddha (the historical Buddha) gave his final teaching. Then, it is written, he entered into progressively higher states of meditation, ultimately passing into Nirvana. His disciples had been instructed to sift his cremation ashes, for he would leave behind profound gifts of loving-kindness for all sentient beings. In December 2008, a portion of these manifestations of love and compassion will visit Sedona, bestowing the Buddha’ s blessing upon all who see them. From his personal safekeeping, His Holiness the Dalai Lama has contributed eight relics of the Buddha to this international tour. A rare collection of more than one thousand sacred relics of Shakyamuni Buddha and other Buddhist masters is traveling the world as the Heart Shrine Relic Tour. This tour is part of the Maitreya Project, whose primary aim is to promote the practice of loving-kindness to all. In Kushinigar, India, the place where Shakyamuni Buddha passed into Nirvana, the Maitreya Project plans a 500-foot statue of Maitreya Buddha (the Buddha of lovingkindness). It is to be a symbol and reminder of loving–kindness to the world.
enlightenment or be Buddhist to benefit from seeing the relics, though, points out Lama Zopa Rinpoche. Again and again, people have connected directly with the powerful loving energy emanating from the relics. Each visitor touches the divine within them. Victoria Ewart, the Relic Tour Director, agrees. People have described feeling overwhelming peace and love in their heart. Others feel that they really are in the presence of the Buddha. This applies to people who are not Buddhist, as well. Some people, however, feel the need to confirm their experience. Often we are asked How do we know the relics are genuine?, says Ewart. The relics have all been offered to Lama Zopa Rinpoche over a number of years. A few years ago in India, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama contributed eight relics of Shakyamuni Buddha from his own collection. Other relics have been offered by the Sakya Reliquary in Tibet and from a museum in Burma, both of whom have housed Buddha’ s relics for many hundreds of years. We think that these are very reliable sources. Rinpoche goes further, however, and actually checks the relics himself. The Sutras describe tests to check authenticity. As a result, Rinpoche has chosen not to display certain relics that have been offered. In addition, Rinpoche consults with His Holiness the Dalai Lama’ s Oracle in Dharamsala, who also checks whether the relics are genuine.
The Heart Shrine Tour The purpose of the Heart Shrine Relic Tour is to bring people of all spiritual traditions and paths together to experience the blessing of the holy relics. Since the Tour began in March 2001, it is estimated that over two million people have shared this blessing at events spread across five continents. All are welcome (including pets). In each city they visit, the relics bring communities together for an inter-faith celebration focused on our shared human qualities—love, compassion and the importance of having a good heart. Everyone is welcome to view the holy relics regardless of their spiritual tradition. The Relic Tour events are free of charge. Individual blessings will be offered each day to people and their pets. During the blessing, a golden stupa containing some of the relics of Shakyamuni Buddha are placed upon the crown of the head. Through this act, it is said that the Buddha himself is touching you and blessing you, or your pet. Individual blessings are also free of charge.

Angels of Enlightenment’ s N.U.A.H.N. Healing Workshops
N
uahn is an acronym for Neural, Universal, Awareness, Healing, Network. Nuahn is an educational program that consists of twelve learning levels of mastery. Level one mastery is about self enlightenment. Many teachings align people with their natural ability to heal and balance other people. In Nuahn, the goal of the teachings is to heal and balance yourself. The first level of Nuahn teaches conscious control of the neural brain patterns and the electromagnetic field surrounding the physical body. One of the most difficult lessons is: self control of thought. When people have self defeating thoughts, it is easy to block healing energies and even distort spiritual messages, thus creating negative health conditions. Therefore, Nuahn level 1 teaches self control of thought through exercises, meditations, activations and alignments. Nuahn also teaches one to connect to powerful healing energies of the Universal Self. Nuahn also teaches one how to apply these powerful healing energies to the self and to others. What qualifies a person to seek this teaching? How can it benefit the student? And most of all, how can it help humanity? Nuahn’s teachings work for everyone. Think about the people at work and how many times one person ruined the whole day? Or how many times a day do we think someone is psychically attacking us? In our family, friends, and even our romantic relationships, how often do we feel ignored, second best, or not heard at all? Nuahn teaches how to overcome life’s roadblocks and our own self-defeating thoughts. It teaches how to perceive our inner beauty and accept our divine right as creators on this planet. Nuahn teaches how to see through deception, and discern self-illusion. Level one is more than an introductory class, level one’s teachings guarantee results when followed and applied to one‘s life. When the teachings are applied to the student’s everyday lives, no matter what their profession or lifestyle they have, there will be noticeable results. They will feel lighter, freer, more expanded, and feel like they can balance their everyday life more than they used to. For Nuahn to have any result, practice is essential! Nuahn only requires 15 minutes a day of practice. Of course, if a person gives Nuahn 30 minutes or more a day, the results will be faster. N.U.A.H.N. Level 1 is about 6 hours and approximately 1 day long. This teaching will consist of a series of activations, meditation exercises, & energy expansion techniques. The activations will include: dual soul merging with harmonic akashic alignment. These activations together align the soul with the neural transmitters in the brain. This makes it easier for the students to be able to alter their own brain states. This workshop is also designed to give the student personal attention while working in a group dynamic. One of Nuahn’s main teaching philosophy is everyone learns and no one is left out. www.angelsofenlightenment.com
