Determining Quality in Clothing Men, do not underestimate it – shopping can be exhausting. Not only do you have to find something that you like, you have to find something that also looks good on you and is within your price range. The worst mistake that shoppers continue to make though, is buying poor quality items that eventually fall apart.
Train Yourself It can be difficult to identify just which items of clothing will hold up over time and which won’t, especially since every brand, even expensive ones, will eventually slip up and make their fair share of less than quality items. But there is a way to train yourself to recognize what is and isn’t quality before you buy it. Here are a few tips to help you out the next time you go shopping.
Try it On First of all, you will want to try on what you want to buy. Eyeballing something and guessing whether it will fit you or not is not an ideal option, as you never know how well it fits unless you put it on. Once it’s on, try walking around a bit to see if it stretches. If it does, it’s not quality.
Materials There are certain materials that are going to wash better and last longer than others. Natural fibers such as wool, silk, cotton, and linen may be more expensive than nylon, polyester or acetate, but it is worth it to have a non-synthetic material you can trust.
Brand If you are one of those people that enjoy shopping at thrift stores, the majority of time you are finding lots and lots of unrecognizable brands. Those rare moments when you find an actual brand name can help you quickly eliminate what you should and shouldn’t buy.
Care instructions If you are looking for the perfect Florida State t-shirt, you aren’t going to want something that requires dry cleaning. The same goes for any other piece of clothing. It will cost much more in the long run. You have to determine whether or not that item of clothing is worth the cost or not. Certain coats, suits, and dresses can be worth it, but be careful about buying too many and wearing them too often.
These are just a few of the tips to find something that will last you a long time in addition to finding that one thing that you like, looks good on you, and is within your price range. Of course, keep a look out for any of the obvious signs that it won’t last – if it has already been tampered with and stained or has holes in it. Sometimes these can be easy to miss at thrift stores. Always shop with a friend to give you an extra pair of eyes in order to make sure that whatever you buy not only looks good on you but is in perfect condition. The only failsafe way to make sure what you have bought is through trial and error, but you can at least use these tips to help you avoid any unnecessary purchases.
